Aren't Adele's numbers about 5-10M lower on BDS, or is it just that MLJ is much higher? Might make things more interesting and it might come to streaming points for RihRih.

It's simple, catchy music and the fact that Rihanna's image isn't clawing or too polarizing for the public to be annoyed of her. People seem to like her more as each year passes by.
Nothing is wrong with churning out a ton of music to the public if they like you or the music, that's why whenever people talk about Rihanna or Beyonce being too overexposed as if it will hurt them it never really makes sense to me. Even though they do promote a lot, their personas aren't as brash or in your face compared to someone like say, Gaga, who I find more susceptible to facing a possible backlash.

rihanna has a public image ??? just b/c its not as out there or crazy cuckoo as gaga doesnt mean she doesnt have one. if she didnt have a public image there wouldnt be as much interest & media attention on her personal life as her music
radio spins stuff that the public likes & shes a big name so anytime she has a new single it always gets a lot of buzz

I look at the gossip rags and Rihanna is all over them all the time these days with some new "scandal". I also see her on the cover of editorial magazines every other month or so I think.

I also think it has to do with ageism. Most artists hit their 'sweet spot' between 24-26. Rihanna is 23. She is still young and fresh and has years to go.

She's young, she has a very loyal fan base, she provokes just the right amount of controversy, she's polarizing, (contrary to her "no public image" statement) she's a darling of the music blogs and editorials. In other words, she's in high demand. When an artist is in high demand, it's hard - and unwise - for radio to ignore them.
