If there is interest, I will post where this falls on all variations of the all-time best sales weeks list (once we have a Soundscan number)
I can do:
-- top overall -- top female -- top weeks in February -- top in the last x years -- top British female -- top British female that performed for the Queen -- top female who never appeared on the Mickey Mouse club :o
Or whatever variation you all want
Or none if no interest

I'm interested. This was a pretty exciting week, it would be good to know all the ways it stacked up.

The music industry should be writing thank you letters to Adele.
How far will she drop next week? Are there any other upcoming award shows/major appearances for her?

Non-December highest totals would be of interest to me. :)

Obviously Adele's sales are ridiculous. It's almost absurd to surprised by her success at this point. I was surprised, however, to see the Civil Wars that high on the chart. Barton Hollow has been consistent in its performance from the beginning, but this surge caught me off guard.

Hopefully she'll remain above 700k when the soundscan numbers are in. Just crazy figures! I believe that is the biggest sales week for a British female solo artist ever! Get it Adele!!

Do you have the highest sales for an album a year after its been released?
Why is the Lana Del Rey EP in the top 50 and not Born to Die?

Adele 716 k ? But...But...EVERYONE owned this album already in the U.S.....:/
^^ words of a pulser the week prior to the Grammy's , in which he/she said that Adele's 21 would sell 'just' 200k after the ceremony, 'cause everyone already had the album...

wow shocked at Jason and Kelly...no increase? I was a little surprised to see no increase for Kelly, considering how well her single is doing. I am not surprised there is no increase due to their Grammy performance, however. If that was the first time I was hearing that song, it would not have interested me. Not a good performance on Jason's part- with or without sound issues.

She's outselling entire eras and careers in one week. It's both amazing and sad at the same time.

Nice to see such high sales for so many acts! Wowzers at Adele! Also noticed that Speak Now might have enough sales this week to pass the 4 million mark. Seems a bit low with Adele in the house, but it is still the 3rd best-selling album of the decade thus far and still going strong.

I'm really happy with Speak Now's sales as well, considering it didn't have the huge crossover hits that Fearless did. It's a solid album and I'm glad to see people are still showing an interest in it this far into its run.

Wow Mumford & Sons didn't even win any Grammys or perform and they're still in the top 20 with a boost! People talk about Adele slaying but Mumford & Sons are an awesome success story too, and they don't even have any successful mainstream US singles
Foo Fighters cleaned up at the Grammys in the rock categories AND performed and M&S still sold more than them...

Until I became an avid collector and chart watcher, I might sometimes found myself not catching onto an album until the 3rd or 4th single

You'd be surprised at how little some people know about what's hot right now. This past Christmas I was really surprised to learn that my brother and his wife only know Adele's "Someone Like You," which they said was a good song. When I played "RITD" for them, they had heard it before, but didn't know it was Adele and hadn't taken note of it. I actually bought the album for my sister this Christmas, and she said that she really liked Adele, but she didn't have the album. She doesn't buy albums often (though does on occasion), so even though she likes Adele, she may have never bought the album if I hadn't got it for her, or she may have only gotten it later on down the line once she was familiar with more of the songs.

7 million copies isn't a lot when you are talking about "everyone has it by now that wants it"
To put things into perspective, by the end of its initial chart run, Thriller was at 20 million

Also, Adele must say a prayer for Whitney tonight, 'cause her death fueled interest in the general public at this year's Grammy Awards and the ratings were the second highest of all time, only behind the year MJ ruled with 'Thriller'.

A friend of a friend recently posted the Facebook status "Rolling in the Deep by Adele is a good song. Check it out if you haven't heard it." They were serious.

HITS REALLY underestimated sales for The Greatest Hits. So, that's a three-spot gain on its initial peak (No. 5 vs. No. 2). Craaazzzyyy sales for Ms. Adkins- but not surprising. I think when death is a variable, sales are a little harder to predict than usual...
