What would make that any different than Part of Me? Brand new single, not available before. Plus it was premiered in front of 40 million people. She's not likely going to get that much of a premiere audience again, unless they time things perfectly. I imagine that there'd be more hype for an entire new album. There was a lot of hype for this album too. They were predicting it to open with 500-700k in the first week. It didn't even crack 200k...

Yeah, Katy doesn't really sell albums that well. I thought we were talking about the sales for a single?

Well, I'd say California Gurls was an anticipated debut and it sold 294k in its first week. I don't think Part of Me would have come close to 400k without the Grammy performance.

California Gurls was anticipated, but it didn't come after a huge era. Katy's next lead single from her brand new album will come after a huge TG era especially single-wise. Expect a #1 debut for her next lead single with record breaking first week digital sales. 500k maybe.

I bet Part Of Me debut at No-1 this week Around 380-400.000 sales + 30-35 mil aud.
It's not a masterpiece but when i think that We Found Love stayed 10 w at No-1 then Kate Perry definitely worth another No-1...

Besides, where did One Direction come from? Online stanbase ala Bieber? Beats me. I mean, they've been around for a while, and I've seen a lot of ads for their music videos on youtube for the past few months, so I don't know what could've heppened this past week to make them do so well all of a sudden.

Questioning One Direction's success is like having a sign attached to your head saying 'I still only use Facebook. Possibly on Netscape Navigator'.

They have so far gone top 5 practically everywhere but I still think their album sales prediction (first week 175k) is too high.

When SFTTR starts to fall, Kelly will have a clear path to #1 since all of the songs besides Set Fire are decreasing. I am totally satisfied with this songs performance thus far, and hope it can last another month or two.

2. RIHANNA - We Found Love f/Calvin Harris: 128.268 (+ 0.328) RIHANNA - Talk That Talk f/Jay-Z: 31.866 (+ 0.139) They are really trying it with the singles this era though; they know she can have 2 big songs at once but 3 all at once is too much. I'm not sure if TTT is done for good but I don't think there's that much hype for it so I wouldn't be surprised, especially since she seems to not be vehemently promoting really. BEYONCE - Love On Top: 36.405 (+ 0.683) Does anyone have airplay data for Jay/Kanye "Gotta Have It"?

Gorl, this is the definition of frustrating. We were sick on these one week smash then burn #1s, then we get WFL thats smashed so hard that two great singles following it have struggled tremendously. I mean, I STILL hear WFL 3-4 times a day when I'm in my car. We all want Rih to slay, but not her own damn songs...smh.

It's staggering how much WFL has overshadowed her other singles. YDO and TTT should have easily done well in its wake, but they're just falling flat.
I think if WHYB is ever a single, it's going to fall short of this board's expectations. It falls apart in the last minute and, to me, is weaker than both YDO and TTT.

I think Rihanna fans should be thrilled that WFL has held on this long. It totally negates the idea that she just has flash-in-the-pan hits, and dare I say this song might become her signature song along with Umbrella and may someday be considered a classic. I really don't think WFL's success is preventing the other singles from being successful, though, contrary to what people are saying. Rihanna and many other artists have not had a problem in the past having multiple songs at the top of the charts. If people want to hear YDO and TTT, they'd get played (and downloaded much more).
I think part of the problem might be, however, general Rihanna overload across the board with her own singles competing with her features. She has something like 5 current singles at the moment, correct? And they're planning on releasing another too I believe. That is overkill, especially since radio hasn't had a break from her in years, but like I said, I don't see why her own singles wouldn't be flying up the charts if people really wanted to hear them.
