Not sure, cesa- if they're much anticipated and from an act with a lot of success at the format, then I'd think so. LP's had 15 top 10s at Alternative radio, including 10 No. 1s.

Despite this song's good start, it doesn't have that much of a future unless it can get some airplay outside of Rock/Alternative radio.

Yah, tracks that appeal specifically to rock formats are limited if they don't cross over to other formats such as pop, Hot AC, etc.

Via the 4/21 BDS charts, these were the top audience totals for the rock formats:

Active Rock: 5.525m
Alternative: 9.673
Rock: 1.053m
Triple A: 2.208m

So, say one track achieved all of that- that's 18.5 million. Which would result in a rank near the bottom of Hot 100 Airplay.

Why do they show every genre BUT R&B? :'(

I have always wondered why it is the only one they do not show either.

I seem to remember (from about 10 years ago) that mainstream r&b is on a slightly different date cycle than the rest. Not sure why.

Also, the main r&b hip/hop songs chart mixes in sales and adult r&b, so it is not a pure airplay chart. The weird thing is that they always include the Dance / Club Play chart - the only non-airplay chart.

The recent charts have been crazy. Even with Fun. continuing its longest-ever streak of 300k+ weeks, 3 different songs now have had a huge advantage over them on iTunes. It's almost like it's December.

Billboard also doesn't Rhythmic in the Charts Highlights. I once inquired, but was told they evaluate which ones to include over time. Whatever that means.

I have the impression WAY has decreased in sales.

And by decreased I mean they're going to sell close to 300k this week (instead of close to 400k like the week before).

Anyway, big digital hits were due and I hope they continue throughout the year. Must keep rising. (I want that 1 million week!)

It's crazy, but I love it! I do think we've just had some songs that have really connected with the public, because the Top song or 2 are the only ones selling massive amounts more than normal.

I was going to make a topic about this. I'm not an avid chart watcher but even I have noticed consistent 300k-400k are almost becoming the norm. I totally agree with Rodze as I am anticipating that first single to hit 1 million+!

Thanks to the date Christmas falls on this year (a Tuesday) we stand a good shot at having the biggest sales week surpassed that week this year, particularly if there is a big hit at that time of year.

(Seems to me that Christmas fell at a kinda weak chart time in 2011 and 2010 -- SAIKI and Grenade weren't exactly "massive" the same way that Tik Tok and Low were in previous years.)

I looked at directly comparisons week-to-week for Digital #1s starting from Fun's first 300k week:
302 vs. 231, 322 vs. 216, 349 vs. 261, 387 vs. 254, 521 vs. 327, 390 vs. 323.

The next 2 last year were 293 and 344; I'm pretty confident this year's equivalent weeks will be well above those #s. Well, I guess we already know it's over 500 for the first one.

Last year apparently (according to Wikipedia) had ZERO weeks over 300k after May. Though of course the first 2 (by publication date) chart weeks of 2012 included 2011 sales.

Can someone summarize Rihanna's singles from this era -- I don't know all their peaks. WFL is the only top ten, right? And You Da One I think was the only other one to crack the top 20. I'm convinced she had several bad marketing choices: You Da One was released too early. She then had too many different singles being promoted. And then the Birthday Cake remix I think made people less excited about rooting for her. It wasn't a "nail in the coffin" but she erased a lot of good will toward her.

Glad that Take Care at least did well.
