No problem, br. I should not that "Talk That Talk" is still charting, too, though No. 31 will be its peak. "Birthday Cake' dropped to 32, but was still bulleted. Pop radio play for the latter track is minimal, and the Chris Brown Rih-mix isn't available digitally, so that hinders its peak potential.

If BC were released digitally, it would easily make it to the Top 10 if not Top 5 but it isnt going to happen so I dont expect it to climb much higher.

^Why hasn't it been released? Rihanna's label in the past has been chart obsessed.
Probably because of Chris Brown...

I wonder why it always seems that the spring has better digital sales than the rest of the year.

www.billboard.com/#/news/gotye-s-somebody-that-i-used-to-know-roars-1006798152.storyFueled by a "Glee" remake and his appearance on "Saturday Night Live," Gotye scores his first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with his first entry on the songs chart, as "Somebody That I Used to Know," featuring Kimbra, lifts 2-1. With the "Glee" cast having performed its version of the song on the Fox series' April 10 episode and Gotye and Kimbra having sung "Somebody" on NBC's "Saturday Night Live" on April 14, the track sold 542,000 downloads in the April 9-15 tracking period, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The sum is the fourth-best since SoundScan began tracking digital sales in 2003. Here are the five highest weekly totals: Total, Title, Artist(s), Chart Date 636,000, "Right Round," Flo Rida, Feb. 28, 2009 610,000, "TiK ToK," Ke$ha, Jan. 9, 2010 559,000, "Grenade," Bruno Mars, Jan. 8, 2011 542,000, "Somebody That I Used to Know," Gotye featuring Kimbra, April 28, 2012 521,000, "Boyfriend," Justin Bieber, April 14, 2012 While aided by TV exposure, Gotye's "Somebody" nets the highest weekly digital sales total for a song not powered by debut week sales ("Right Round") or Christmas week consumer behavior ("TiK ToK," "Grenade"). (The "Glee" cast cover of "Somebody," meanwhile, sold 152,000 downloads and debuts on the Digital Songs chart at No. 10 and the Hot 100 at No. 26.) Gotye's Smash Hit Almost Didn't Happen In addition to its chart-topping rank on the Hot 100 (with the chart's top Digital Gainer award) and Digital Songs, "Somebody" leaps 12-8 on Radio Songs with 72 million all-format audience impressions (up 19%), according to Nielsen BDS. The track additionally takes over atop the On-Demand Songs chart with 128 million on-demand streams (up 23%), according to BDS, while its overall streaming increases by 21%. The coronation of "Somebody" is also notable for Gotye's personal background and the song's rock lean. Gotye: 'Somebody' You Should 'Know' (Exclusive Video Interview) How's this for trivia? Having been born in Belgium, Gotye (nee Wouter "Wally" De Backer) is the first native of the country to top the Hot 100 since the Singing Nun (aka, Souer Sourire (Sister Smile), or the late Jeanine Deckers) spent four weeks atop the chart in 1963 with "Dominique." Having moved to Australia at age 2, Gotye is the first Australian-raised act to reign since Savage Garden led for four weeks in 2000 with "I Knew I Loved You." He's the first solo Australian to command the Hot 100 since Olivia Newton-John racked 10 weeks at No. 1 beginning in November 1981 with "Physical" and the first solo male from Down Under to rise up to the top spot since Rick Springfield led with "Jessie's Girl" that August 31 years ago. (Australian-born Natalie Imbruglia's "Torn" topped Radio Songs for a hefty 11 weeks in 1998 but, because it was not a commercially-available single at the time, it was not eligible for inclusion on the Hot 100 during its airplay reign. Thereby, it was denied a possible No. 1 Hot 100 ranking. By the time Billboard rules changed to allow non-commercially-available tracks on the Hot 100 that December, the song spent two weeks on the big chart at the wane of its popularity, peaking at No. 42.) And, as "Somebody," which led Billboard's Rock Songs chart for four weeks, dethrones fun.'s "We Are Young," featuring Janelle Monae, after six weeks atop the Hot 100 (as "Young" conversely replaces "Somebody" at the Rock Songs summit), two rock-based tracks have reigned back-to-back on the Hot 100 for the first time since Matchbox Twenty's "Bent" succeeded Vertical Horizon's "Everything You Want" the week of July 22, 2000. Pop Rocks: fun. Times for Alternative at Top 40 Radio As "Somebody" and "Young" have also both topped the Alternative Songs chart, two Alternative Songs leaders have crowned the Hot 100 consecutively for the first time dating to the former list's Sept. 10, 1988, launch. With the advance of "Somebody," "Young" falls 1-2 on the Hot 100, although it continues its record-setting sales streak. With 333,000 downloads sold (down 15%), "Young" links an unprecedented seventh straight week of 300,000 or more in digital sales. No song previously registered more than five weeks (consecutive or not) of such stratospheric download totals. While slipping 1-2 on Digital Songs, "Young" crowns the Radio Songs chart for a second week (130 million, up 9%). It cedes the top rank on On-Demand Songs to "Somebody" after five weeks at No. 1 (dating to the chart's inception), although with a 2% uptick to 116 million on-demand streams and a gain of 1% in overall streaming. Compared to the many notable achievements of the Hot 100's top two titles, the rest of the top 10 is far less headline-stealing, as no new songs enter the region. The songs from Nos. 3 through 5, in fact, maintain their rankings from last week: the Wanted's "Glad You Came" (3-3); One Direction's "What Makes You Beautiful" (4-4); and Justin Bieber's "Boyfriend" (5-5). Bieber's track, however, claims the Hot 100's top Streaming Gainer ribbon, bounding 35-10 on On-Demand Songs (576,000, up 101%). Flo Rida's "Wild Ones," featuring Sia, rises 7-6 on the Hot 100 with top Airplay Gainer honors. The collaboration charges 9-6 on Radio Songs with a 24% increase to 84 million in audience. Nicki Minaj's "Starships" decelerates 7-6 on the Hot 100, Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" jumps 10-8, and two former No. 1s round out the chart's top tier: Kelly Clarkson's former three-week leader "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)" (8-9) and Katy Perry's former one-week topper "Part of Me" (9-10). Check billboard.com tomorrow (April 19), when all rankings, including the Hot 100 and On-Demand Songs in their entirety and Digital Songs and Radio Songs, will be refreshed, as they are each Thursday.

Ha Yeah, same with fun.
Note: "Birthday Cake" is available digitally, albeit in the 1:18 version. So, it is getting sales points on a weekly basis (currently ranked top 50 on iTunes).

Think they are repressing the Chris Brown remix to get Rihanna another #1? Now is the time to release it. They can get a quick #1 or Top 5 hit single and justify moving on quickly. The "damage" is done. There is no going back.

The last time an alternative act replaced another alternative act on the Hot 100 was in 2000 when "Bent" replaced "Everything You Want". And, as "Somebody," which led Billboard's Rock Songs chart for four weeks, dethrones fun.'s "We Are Young," featuring Janelle Monae, after six weeks atop the Hot 100 (as "Young" conversely replaces "Somebody" at the Rock Songs summit), two rock-based tracks have reigned back-to-back on the Hot 100 for the first time since Matchbox Twenty's "Bent" succeeded Vertical Horizon's "Everything You Want" the week of July 22, 2000. Good to see it happen. Katy still hasn't left the top 10 since its debut. She just needs to hold on one more week to get a 10th week in the top 10. ---- The label is just anti-birthday cake (which wasn't officially released to radio by IDJ; it's one of those songs where radio just went in on its own accord). I don't believe they are repressing, I believe they are just resisting. I feel they will eventually release the remix to iTunes, but they'll do so long-since it has peaked in hopes of silently putting it out there.

Questions:
Is that the first Glee song this season to make the top 10? I know they came close with the Adele mash-up.
I know that all the attention is on Gotye, but has there ever been someone from New Zealand in the top 10, much less at #1?

The only big US hit from New Zealand that I can easily think of is "How Bizarre" by OMC. It reached #4 on Hot 100 Airplay and #1 at Pop, but wasn't eligible to chart on the Hot 100 because it didn't have a commercial single released.

Katy still hasn't left the top 10 since its debut. She just needs to hold on one more week to get a 10th week in the top 10. Well, Payphone will debut in the Top 10 next week. Part of Me is ahead of Stronger on itunes and is gaining airplay-wise so it could get another week in the top 10 at Stronger's expense.

The "damage" is done. There is no going back. Honestly, I don't think most people even know or care, especially outside of America. It's not going to affect her career negatively, if anything it's another hot Rihanna jam that will gain her new fans.

'Glee' Cast Notches 200th Hit on Hot 100by Gary Trust | April 18, 2012 3:15 EDT The Fox TV troupe has blasted to the record-extending milestone in less than three years. With two more debuts this week, the cast of Fox's "Glee" ups its total of career charted songs on the Billboard Hot 100 to a milestone 200 titles. Amazingly, the TV troupe has reached the sum in less than three years. The cast first appeared on the Hot 100 the week of June 6, 2009, led by the No. 4 arrival of its cover of Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'." The act's highest charted entry to date even bested the peak of the original version, which rocked to No. 9 in 1981. This week, the "Glee" cast hits an even 200 career Hot 100 appearances, as its remake of Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know" - the original of which becomes the new No. 1 song on the Hot 100 - debuts at No. 26 and its mash-up of Duran Duran's '80s smashes "Hungry Like the Wolf" and "Rio" enters at No. 98. ("Somebody" marks the 61st charted remake of a Hot 100 No. 1 with which the "Glee" ensemble has charted.) Here is a recap of the acts with the most Hot 100 hits dating to the chart's inception the week of Aug. 4, 1958. (Under its current formula, the chart blends Nielsen Music digital sales and airplay data for the majority of its weekly points total, with streaming data accounting for a smaller percentage): 200, "Glee" cast 108, Elvis Presley 101, Lil Wayne 91, James Brown 74, Ray Charles 73, Aretha Franklin 71, the Beatles 70, Jay-Z 67, Elton John 63, Stevie Wonder (Presley's career predates the Hot 100's launch. Combining his songs that reached various Hot 100 predecessor charts beginning in 1956, his total would swell to an unofficial 139, according to Billboard historian Joel Whitburn's reference book "Top Pop Singles.") Notably, despite the cast's record total of Hot 100 visits, most "Glee" songs spend a mere one week on the chart. Only 33 of its 200 entries have racked more than a single frame on the list, with "Believin' " leading with seven charted weeks total. As "Glee" releases multiple tracks alongside each new episode, fans generally move on each week to the cast's next available batch of songs. The "Glee" cast has charted almost exclusively with updates of songs already made popular by other acts, although original track "Loser Like Me" remains its second-highest-charted hit, having reached No. 6 last year. (The cast notched the other of its three Hot 100 top 10s with a remake of Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream.") More recently, the series has begun to help create hits for other acts. On its Dec. 6 episode, "Glee" covered then-uncharted and little-known fun.'s "We Are Young." The cover debuted on the Hot 100 at its No. 12 peak and the original entered at No. 53 the week of Dec. 24, 2011 - two months before fun.'s version reached the chart's top 40 (spurred by its inclusion in a Chevrolet Sonic ad that aired during the Super Bowl). This week, fun.'s version of "Young" falls 1-2 on the Hot 100 after six weeks in charge, ceding the top spot to "Somebody," one of the show's latest remakes. After breaking the 200-hit barrier this week, the "Glee" cast could keep extending its Hot 100 record total as soon as next week, when remakes of songs by the Bee Gees and other '70s acts could debut following last night's (April 17) disco-centric, polyester-infused episode, "Saturday Night Glee-ver." Considering the short duration of just about all of the songs (the majority of them have only lasted one week on the chart); and that only 3 of them have actually made the top 10; and none have made it to #1, I don't think this particular chart achievement has much merit.

^I agree, but I find it an interesting tidbit, nonetheless. Week Ending April 15, 2012. Songs: Gotye Beats BieberBy Paul Grein | Chart Watch – 1 hour 12 minutes ago "Somebody That I Used To Know" by Gotye featuring Kimbra sold 542,000 copies last week, which constitutes the biggest one-week sales total in more than a year. It swipes the 2012 sales crown from Justin Bieber's "Boyfriend," which sold 521K copies in its first week two weeks ago. This helps the song jump from #2 to #1 on the Hot 100, displacing "We Are Young" by fun. featuring Janelle Monae. This marks the first time that rock tracks have been back-to-back #1 hits on the Hot 100 since July 2000, when Matchbox Twenty's "Bent" followed Vertical Horizon's "Everything You Want." TV exposure triggered the sales surge for "Somebody That I Used To Know." Gotye and Kimbra sang the song on Saturday Night Live on April 14. It was featured on Glee on April 10. The Glee version enters the Hot 100 at #26. Digital sales rank: #10 (152K). You may recall that TV exposure was also instrumental in breaking "We Are Young," which exploded after it was featured in a commercial which aired during the Super Bowl. (Before that, the song had also been featured on Glee.) Only three other songs in digital history have ever sold as many copies in one week as "Somebody That I Used To Know" does this week (and none was as deep into its run as Gotye's hit, which is in its 15th week of digital release.) Flo Rida's "Right Round" sold 636K in its first week in February 2009. Ke$ha's "TiK ToK" sold 610K copies in its 14th week in December 2009. Bruno Mars' "Grenade" sold 559K copies in its 13th week in December 2010. "Somebody…" was #1 in the U.K. for five weeks in February and March. It's the second transatlantic #1 so far this year, following Katy Perry's "Part Of Me." Gotye (real name: Wouter "Wally" De Backer) was born in Belgium and reared in Australia. Billboard's Gary Trust notes that Gotye is the first artist who was born in Belgium to reach #1 since the Singing Nun, who topped the chart for four weeks in December 1963 with "Dominique," a foreign-language hit that was an out-of-nowhere phenomenon. Kimbra (full name: Kimbra Johnson) is from New Zealand. "We Are Young" sold 333K copies this week. This is the seventh time that its weekly sales have exceeded 300K. No other song in digital history has sold 300K more than five times. "We Are Young" is still ahead of "Somebody That I Used To Know" in radio points. "We Are Young" is #1 on the Hot 100 Airplay chart for the second week, while its rival jumps from #12 to #8. The fun. song lost the Hot 100 crown because it slipped behind the Gotye song on both Hot Digital Songs and on the new On-Demand Songs chart. Justin Bieber touted Carly Rae Jepsen to his 19 million Twitter followers. That went a long way to helping her single "Call Me Maybe" become an international hit. It jumps from #10 to #8 in its eighth week on the Hot 100. In the U.K., it holds at #1 for the second straight week. But there's a slightly awkward little wrinkle: By holding at #1 in the U.K., it prevented Bieber's hit "Boyfriend" from debuting at #1 there. Instead, the song opens at #2. Even so, it's Bieber's biggest hit to date in the U.K., topping "Baby" (featuring Ludacris), which peaked at #3. "Boyfriend" also debuted at #2 in the U.S. two weeks ago (behind "We Are Young"). It holds at #5 this week. Both "Boyfriend" and "Call Me Maybe" top the 1 million mark in U.S. digital sales this week. Adele's "Rolling In The Deep" this week becomes just the second song to top the 7 million mark in digital sales. It follows the Black Eyed Peas' "I Gotta Feeling," which topped the 7 million mark in March 2011. Adele's song shaved a full six months off the time it took the Peas' song to sell 7 million digital copies. "Deep" is in its 67th week of release. "I Gotta Feeling" took 93 weeks to hit 7 million. The Peas' smash has sold 7,890,000 copies. LMFAO really is laughing all the way to the bank. The party-minded duo this week becomes just the sixth (and certainly the most unlikely) act to top 5 million mark in digital sales with two or more songs. The duo's "Sexy And I Know It" has sold 5,041,000 copies. Its earlier "Party Rock Anthem" (featuring Lauren Bennett and GoonRock) has sold 6,629,000. The other acts who have amassed two or more 5-million sellers are Katy Perry (who leads all artists with four), Lady Gaga (who has had three) and the Black Eyed Peas, Flo Rida and Bruno Mars (with two each). Here's the low-down on this week's top 10 songs. 1. Gotye featuring Kimbra, "Somebody That I Used To Know." The song jumps from #2 to #1 in its 15th week on the chart. This is its seventh week in the top 10. The song tops the 2 million mark in digital sales this week. Digital sales rank: #1 (542K). 2. fun. featuring Janelle Monae, "We Are Young." The former #1 song dips to #2 following six weeks on top. This is its 17th week on the chart; its 10th week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #2 (333K). 3. The Wanted, "Glad You Came." The song holds at #3 for the fourth time the past five weeks. This is 14th week on the chart; its eighth week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #8 (181K). 4. One Direction, "What Makes You Beautiful." The song holds at #4 for the second week in its ninth week on the chart. Digital sales rank: #3 (267K). 5. Justin Bieber, "Boyfriend." The song holds at #5 for the second week in its third week on the chart. The song tops the 1 million mark in digital sales this week. Digital sales rank: #4 (255K). 6. Flo Rida featuring Sia, "Wild Ones." The song jumps from #7 to #6 in its 15th week on the chart. This is its fifth week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #7 (187K). 7. Nicki Minaj, "Starships." The song dips from #6 to #7 in its ninth week on the chart. It has been in the top 10 the entire time. Digital sales rank: #6 (204K). 8. Carly Rae Jepsen, "Call Me Maybe." The song jumps from #10 to #8 in its eighth week on the chart. This is its third week in the top 10. The song tops the 1 million mark in digital sales this week. Digital sales rank: #5 (227K). 9. Kelly Clarkson, "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)." The former #1 song dips from #8 to #9 in its 17th week on the chart. This is its 13th week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #11 (120K). 10. Katy Perry, "Part Of Me." The former #1 song dips from #9 to #10 in its ninth week on the chart. It has been in the top 10 the entire time. Digital sales rank: #15 (114K). To my readers: I'll have a lot more to add after I've seen the full chart. In the meantime, here are a few more items to tide you over. Train's "Drive By," which was #14 last week, tops the 1 million mark in digital sales this week. "Ass Back Home" by Gym Class Heroes featuring Neon Hitch, which peaked at #12 in February, has logged nine weeks in the top 20. It's a far bigger hit than the previous highest-charting song whose title started with that provocative word. Eminem's "Ass Like That," a track from Encore, peaked at #60 in 2005. "Mercy" by Kanye West, Big Sean, Pusha T and 2 Chainz is expected to make a nice jump after debuting last week at #38. Digital sales rank: #9 (154K). Juliet Simms' cover of The Police's classic "Roxanne" is expected to make a nice debut this week. Simms is a contestant on The Voice. The Police's original version reached #32 in 1979. "Roxanne '97 (Puff Daddy Remix)" by Sting & The Police featuring Pras, hit #59 in 1998. Ellie Goulding's "Lights," which is currently #60, tops the 1 million mark in digital sales this week. "Tonight I'm Lovin' You," the racy 2011 smash by Enrique Iglesias featuring Ludacris & DJ Frank E, tops the 3 million mark in digital sales this week. It's the second 3 million-seller for Iglesias, following "I Like It" (featuring Pitbull), which has sold 3,749,000 copies. It's Ludacris' fourth 3 million-seller as a featured artist, following Taio Cruz's "Break Your Heart" (3,668,000), Justin Bieber's "Baby" (3,591,000) and Usher's "Yeah!" (which also featured Lil Jon, 3,443,000). The odd part? Ludacris has yet to land a 3 million-seller as a lead artist. His top-seller on which he's in the lead is his 2010 hit "How Low," which has sold 2,191,000 copies. Taylor Swift lands her 15th million-seller this week with "Safe & Sound" (featuring The Civil Wars). Swift has now had more million-selling digital hits than the next two most prolific country hit-makers combined. Carrie Underwood has had eight. The Zac Brown Band has had six. Link

"Somebody…" was #1 in the U.K. for five weeks in February and March. It's the second transatlantic #1 so far this year, following Katy Perry's "Part Of Me." Hmm...
