Kind of new around here so just asking are these airplay numbers from mediabase or is this from the airplay chart that BB uses? I've seen the comments that the numbers are different but don't remember which source these numbers are from. Thanks

So remember when a bunch of us were saying fun was practically a lock for #1 of the year?
Is anyone rethinking that based on Gotye's performance now?
Which also makes me wonder if it's possible some completely other song will appear and outdo both of them.
Ultimately though it seems a good bet both of them will, at the very least, end up in the top 5 for the year, if not be the actual top 2.

'We Are Young" is epic, but, without heavy play from rhythmic (where it's currently No. 20) and urban radio, it's limited in its audience potential.

I think these two songs have the best chance of being the number 1 song of the year. Though it's certainly not impossible, I think it's unlikely some other song will outdo them at this point since that song would only have about 6 months to accrue chart points. Both WAY and STIUTK have already accrued tons of chart points, but they also might be able to stay on the chart for most of the rest of the year which would give them the edge.

It will be: 1. Somebody That I Used to Know 2. We Are Young 3. We Found Love And you can quote me on this. I don't know, WAY is still ahead of STIUTK in both sales and airplay, and there is no guarantee that Gotye's song will catch up with it in either one, so right now, at this moment, I would give the advantage to fun., but that could change.

There's no doubt that "We Found Love" was a huge smash, especially in terms of airplay, but I wonder if it will make the top 3 considering its sales aren't as big as many other megasmash hits. I also wonder how BB will factor in the lack of On-Demand points for those songs at the beginning of the year, which could also hurt "We Found Love"s ranking. Depending on the longevity they have, something like "Sexy and I Know It" or "Set Fire to the Rain" could place above "We Found Love" in the year-end chart.

We Are Young will outsell WFLs overall sales next week, and a lot of it isnt even from 2012. I doubt it will be top 5, let alone top 3.

Its unlikely that SIAKI will place ahead of WFL, its a good ten spots below it this week, and has consistently been ranked below it for almost their entire runs together. SFTTR is a few ranks ahead of WFL this week, but it seems to be falling faster. I'm not disputing your point that WFL could miss out on the top 3, but I don't think SAIKI or SFTTR are the songs that would replace it.

The #2 song of 2011 was Party Rock Anthem. It wasn't even top 10 on the Hot 100 yet at this point last year. So, anything can happen. I think an unreleased summer electro-dance-pop smash will most likely find it's way into the top 5 YE again this year. That might be what stops WFL from being top 3.

STIUTK is selling more than WAY now. STIUTK has passed 3 million this week, selling 414k and WAY passed 4 million this week selling 207k. Considering WAY's airplay is plateauing, while STIUTK has room to grow, it seems more than likely that STIUTK will outsell WAY. Not to mention STIUTK has sold over 400k for the last 3 weeks (a first) and doesn't seem like it'll sink below 300k for a few more weeks. Airplay-wise, it's a bit tougher to call. They both are getting airplay from the same formats; Triple A, Alternative, HAC, POP, Rhythmic and AC. So it will be down to the recurrent airplay on these formats. Something I think STIUTK will get more of. But then again, there could be an absolute monster of a song around the corner that could take away the #1 from both of them. So we'll have to see how well any big new releases do too.

I think an unreleased summer electro-dance-pop smash will most likely find it's way into the top 5 YE again this year. That might be what stops WFL from being top 3. I thought that was interesting so I decided to see when previous #1 songs of the year first entered the top 10. You have to go to the mid-90s to find songs that moved into the top ten later than May. A little bit of interesting trivia I saw - 11/28/92 and 12/5/92 are the only weeks in which the #1 year-end songs from consecutive years appear in a top ten together. If fun. has the #1 year-end song this year, the 3/10/12 chart will have repeated that feat. 2011 - Rolling in the Deep - 4/16/11 2010 - Tik Tok - 11/28/09 2009 - Boom Boom Pow - 4/18/09 2008 - Low - 11/24/07 2007 - Irreplaceable - 11/18/06 2006 - Bad Day - 3/25/06 2005 - We Belong Together - 5/14/05 2004 - Yeah! - 1/31/04 2003 - In Da CLub - 2/15/03 2002 - How You Remind Me - 11/17/01 2001 - Hanging By A Moment - 4/21/01 2000 - Breathe - 2/26/00 1999 - Believe - 2/13/99 1998 - Too Close - 4/4/98 1997 - Candle In The Wind 1997/Something About The Way You Look Tonight - 10/11/97 1996 - Macarena - 6/29/96 1995 - Gangsta's Paradise - 8/26/95 1994 - The Sign - 2/5/94 1993 - I Will Always Love You - 11/28/92 1992 - End of the Road - 8/1/92

Amazing work, popstop! Thanks so much for going through all that work and sharing that And cesarams, one way to learn how to do the five previous charts would be to hit "Quote" on HolidayGuy's post to see how he does it :)

Yeah, then just delete the stuff that quotes the message, delete the oldest previous chart, and use that format to make the new one.
