Did a quick breeze thru on YouTube. Sounds very cool. I will definitely pick this up. Manicure is one of my favorites and I like Dope, Swine and Aura. I'm sure I will like the others too once I have more time with them.

I'm sorry but IMO this album is horrible. I only like three songs - DWYW, Sexxx Dreams, & Gypsy. Fashion is okay but it's a bit boring. Dope had potential but that "I need you more than dope" line is incredibly childish. Everything else sounds the same to me.

^That makes a lot of sense, I never thought of it that way. But yeah the way she words it sounds really off, it makes it sound like she's saying she needs her fans more than she needs dope haha. Ok, so I listened to the song again to try to figure it out, and I'm going to take back the explanation I said before. I think she is actually saying that she was able to quit her drug problem because of her fans, and that she will never go back to that drug addict life because she could never risk losing her fans, hence why she needs them more than dope. ie. its the fans or the drugs and she chooses the fans. If I'm right, that's actually a pretty cool concept, but still very off putting on first listen.

After a few days of listening to this obsessively, here are my rankings.
Top 5 1. G.U.Y. "Greetings from Himeros God of sexual desire, son of Aphrodite Lay back, and feast as this audio guides you through new and exciting positions."
could this be love? Definitely the best song on the album, although unsurprisingly, I like every song on the album. I love the post-chorus breakdown, the chorus is total ear candy, and the pre chorus is perfection. I would say this is the only perfect song on ARTPOP, although I find the imperfections make the album even more interesting and will hopefully prevent fast burn. 2. Gypsy I have personal issues with the whole concept of being torn on whether you want to leave home and leave your family or go out into the world to make the most of your life. It's kind of hard for me to listen to this bc of that, but it's still a massive single waiting to happen. 3. Mary Jane Holland That chorus tho>>>> 4. ManiCure Has really grown on me, although Im still bitter about the HEAL ME line being relegated to the bridge. 5. Sexxx Dreams Just a fun, catchy, sleazy ass song.
6. Applause 7. Jewels N Drugs 8. Fashion! 9. Venus 10. Do What U Want 11. Swine 12. Donatella 13. Artpop 14. Dope 15. Aura (The vocals just kill it for me)
This will probably change at least 20 more times, though.

I can't believe it just now hit me why Applause is the album closer: you give applause at the end of something!

I can't stop listening to DWUW, Venus, and GUY to even listen to the rest and rank them.

I think they should go four singles deep and then release another album November 2014 (not called Artpop vol. 2). Gypsy should follow DWUW in February, and then in May she should release G.U.Y. I know some of you are skeptical of G.U.Y. as a single, but there's a few reasons it needs to hit radio:
1. Gaga hasn't sent a hard-hitting dance song to radio since TFM. She's been pandering to the part of the general public that likes Edge of Glory, Applause, probably Gypsy in a few months, while ignoring potential fans who would actually like Artpop's abrasive beats and overpowering synths (see: fans of EDM, Icona Pop, Nine Inch Nails). If Gaga wants to be an album seller and not a single's artist, she needs to expose her music to people who appreciate her not-totally-commercial sound.
2. Gaga's popularity has seriously waned in Europe. Judas could have smashed abroad, but she pulled the plug because it was flopping in the US. U&I was supposed to appeal to middle America, so predictably it did nothing internationally. G.U.Y., on the other hand, is exactly the type of song her European fanbase has been waiting for since TFM. A genuine, down-and-dirty EDM track will remind them why Gaga isn't just another American pop act.
3. People who like G.U.Y. love it.
Between Applause, DWUW and Gypsy, Artpop should have three hits anyway. As long as she doesn't drag this era out, Gaga will be in good shape come next album.

Who's skeptical of 'G.U.Y.' as a single??? It's one of the most radio-friendly songs on the album.

Um...G.U.Y. needs to be released immediately.
A DWUW and G.U.Y. one-two punch would be GOLD. :'(

I don't believe that for a second. From the article: โShe doesnโt take direction anymore,โ a source told me. When Troy spoke at my college in 2009 he specifically said she's the type of artist that doesn't take direction, so this isn't a new thing at all.

You knowI was just thinking about this exact single strategy myself. I too think it would be the smartest way to go this era. No 5th single. After all, TF didn't have one.

When Troy spoke at my college in 2009 he specifically said she's the type of artist that doesn't take direction, so this isn't a new thing at all. That 'article' is by Roger Friedman who usually has nothing nice to say about anyone other than his favorites. He drags Madonna left and right even if she did something good that really cannot be twisted and turned into something negative. He's turning her YouTube awards performance which reportedly had less viewers than the telecast overall into some sort of failure. Perhaps the people watching might not be fans of hers and chose not to watch. It's up to them to decide. I love how he's calling her iTunes Countdown singles 'a fully of leaked singles'. Gaga is not the only one doing these. Katy Perry just did it too, and so have many other artists.

Yes, "Born this Way" was super clear, especially when Judas flopped and they had to rush release TEOG. He has no clue what he's talking about. Just trying to get hits for his site.

Isn't Roger Friedman a Mariah stan? Yes-there was some talk that he is basically hired to do that. Like, praise certain artists and rip into other ones.

Roger Friedman used to write nasty articles about Mariah too until he decided to start stanning. He's nuts. Like a more professional version of Perez.

Isn't Roger Friedman a Mariah stan? Yes-there was some talk that he is basically hired to do that. Like, praise certain artists and rip into other ones. He was accused of being paid money by people like Harvey Weinstein and Mariah Carey to promote their products while giving horrible publicity to their competition. He also got into lots of trouble over bragging about how easy it was to download a movie illegally. He also claimed that MDNA was being sold for 41 cents and Born This Way was for sale for 1 cent on Amazon. This was true, but it was INDIVIDUAL SELLERS that were selling it at those prices, and only 1 customer could get each deal. He conveniently didn't mention those details.

I was just reading the lyrics to all the songs, I really think she did some of her best on this album.
Do we know what happened that she wrote Swine about? I know she talked about it at iTunes Festival, and its about something she went through before she was famous (I think) but she was pretty vague. Is it about a bad crowd she got involved in, that got her on drugs? I don't get the "Cuz it's when I'm not thinking with you that I act like a swine" line.

don't get the "Cuz it's when I'm not thinking with you that I act like a swine" line. I assume that line means that when she's with the people she considers a bad influence, she acts like them unless she's thinking about the people she considers "good". The whole trying to fit-in idea that many people have. You alter your thinking to align with the people you want to fit in with.

Well if The Hollywood Reporter and Billboard are reporting, there must be some credence to it. Regardless, I was curious that she would make this type of move now. I believe Ga, like Madonna, has her own creative vision and will be just fine.

I guess I was just confused because she's singing the song to the bad influence, but that line is saying that she 'acts like a swine' when she's not thinking with 'you', confuses me a bit.
