Candy, nothing lasts forever. Gaga is still very much talked about, but this time around her US promo has been lacking. Just comparing her last era, she was everywhere and to some it was a over saturation, but now she really seems to be more choosy in how she wanted to come out of the gate, and I too think its based on maintaining steady sells. Of course time shall tell, but when talking about the height of her fame to now, one must remember all that has taken place (including a backlash).
At the end of the day, she'll be okay.

She may start going through some of what Madonna has gone through. She will have periods of super hype and have music do very well and then have periods of folks not really caring all too much. It will be cyclical and go up and down and up again. However, she will remain very much in the zeitgeist of pop culture. Current signs don't point to that road at all. She peaked late 2009/early 2010 and has been faltering since then. You cannot remain in the zeitgeist of pop culture when you pander to your fans only. What's ironic is that the label most likely allowed her to do that because they overestimated her fanbase and did not want her to lose that. Well, I doubt she is going to disappear like some the artists in the '80s / early '90s that were huge and then all of sudden had a flop album and disappeared (Alanis Morissette, Cyndi Lauper - though she is slowly creeping her way back thanks to Kinky Boots, etc.). I think the general public will always be aware of her and have some level of interest in her and she will still be of pop culture reference. Her monsters will remain fanatical and will think she is far more influential, even though she may be past her sell date. I definitely don't think she is at the point of no one giving a shit, but she is definitely not as huge as she was.

I don't think she has done enough promo in the US.. You can't be serious with this statement. We're not talking about Katy though so he/she probably is ???

It will be interesting to see where she goes from here. I hope she doesn't become too depressed at the lack of commercial success and make music she doesn't want to make, but she also hasn't exactly seemed like the kind of artist who is just in it for the art, success be damned--fame and fortune has been just as front and center as her vision, if not intertwined. This is what has made her such an interesting pop star. But her vision hasn't lined up with commercial success in some time, so I wonder what she will abandon, or "adjust." Because, admittedly only one listen in, I don't hear anything on this project that is going to salvage this era in terms of giving it long-lasting, slow-burning success. Enough to get platinum? Likely, but not sure how much more than that she can expect, and those aren't very high expectations for her.

Murderer of Madonna, Katy, Britney, Christina, etc. Really? We went from having her open supermarkets to her suddenly committing crimes to end up on the cellblock? Times are not that desperate.

The best thing she could do right now would be to strip back a lot of the artifice, all of the distractions. The most shocking thing she could do would be to appear relatively normal. That doesn't mean it can't be high art or couture fashion. If she was really a student of Madonna she'd pay attention to the transition from Boy Toy to "Live To Tell" era.

I was actually really pleasantly surprised by her initial launch of this era. She was really glamming it up and looking pretty and sophisticated. The light brown long hair...the gorgeous makeup..etc. Then all of sudden she started caking this white stuff on her face and wearing this night gowns and stripping in a nightclub. Girl went nuts. Then to this...

I don't think she should change a thing. Expectations just need to be lowered. She is a polarizing artist, and those types don't stay on top forever. Suddenly "becoming normal" would seem desperate, and I highly doubt anyone would want her to be "just like the rest", in an effort to stay relevant on the charts.
it's not the end of the world. DWYW sounds like an album seller to me, and they should milk it for all its worth.
that's my stance.
however, if her tour bombs as well, then i'm not really sure what to think, cuz then it's cutting into label profits. It's all well and good right now, cuz she is a huge touring act that makes lots of money for the label. But if that isn't there, either, then the label will cut back on promoting her like they are now. So then something would likely have to happen.
but I think she's fine for now.

Maybe she should audition for the next season of Love & Hip Hop? It did wonders for K Michelle's career.

I'm not too concerned with the sales, I just want her to get #1. When Applause didn't smash immediately like Born This Way (single) did upon release, I knew the album sales weren't going to be stellar (although 250K is nothing to call a failure! Whether its Gaga or not). Now that she's had chart smashes w/ TF/M and BTW, I'm content with consistent high peaks and mediocre sales going forward. She proved herself already, she doesn't need monster sales for every album campaign.
BECAUSE I JUST LOVE THE MUSIC NOT THE BLING.

omg, the album is down to #2 on iTunes. :o To be fair, the album is about 3x as expensive on iTunes as it is elsewhere.
