Lady Gaga's "Dope" storms onto the Hot 100 at No. 8, fueled most heavily by its No. 1 arrival on Streaming Songs (marking her first leader on the list) with 8.2 million first-week streams; 95% of that sum stems from YouTube (non-VEVO) views of the live video of Gaga performing "Dope" at the YouTube Music Awards on Nov. 3. The ballad also begins on Digital Songs at No. 60 with 31,000 downloads sold. "Dope" marks Mother Monster's lucky 13th Hot 100 top 10. She first reached the bracket with "Just Dance" five years ago next month. Dating to her first week in the top 10 (Dec. 6, 2008), only Rihanna (16) claims more top 10s, while Gaga ties Drake for the second-most. Taylor Swift is next with 12, followed by Lil Wayne, Bruno Mars and Katy Perry (11 apiece). Gaga remains in the Hot 100's top 10 with the No. 4-peaking "Applause" (10-10). Both songs appear on "ARTPOP," released on Monday and due on next week's Billboard 200. ("Applause" has spent each of its 13 weeks on the Hot 100 in the top 10.) Meanwhile, the set's next radio single, "Do What U Want," featuring R. Kelly, rebounds 58-48 on the Hot 100 after debuting at No. 13 two weeks ago. It pushes 64-51 in its second week on Radio Songs (23 million, up 22%). www.billboard.com/articles/news/5785931/lordes-royals-leads-hot-100-lady-gagas-dope-debuts-at-no-8

I can't believe Applause is still #10! 12 weeks now, is it?

Lady Gaga (Interscope) 250-275k
I'm very surprised it's not higher.

Yikes. That's not a good sign, especially considering 100k (?) were preorders. Here's to hoping DWUW and Gypsy are massive hits.

They shouldn't let albums stream and release them in other countries before the US release date. I just don't understand the logic behind that.

Is there a chance that could be not including preorders?

Well a #1 debut would soften the blow. Wondering what her tour schedule will be like. She had 4 arena shows in NYC planned for BTW Ball...I'm wondering if it'll just be one.

I'm disappointed for her just in the sense that I feel she works much harder and puts more effort into her craft than her contemporaries. I never expected this album to go double platinum by any means, especially coming after Born This Way, but I expected it to sell better first week.
However, she will benefit from Christmas sales and upcoming promotion. When all is said and done, I hope this goes at least platinum. She has a couple other songs on the album that will sell the album assuming they become 'Applause' sized hits.

Wow, I was expecting the album to sell a lot more than that.

Gaga definitely has a strong work ethic, but her US promo thus far hasn't been the greatest. One must also take into account that she turned a lot of people off with her imagery and message delivery of 'Born This Way' (which is my favorite Gaga album). While I love Applause (and the majority of ARTPOP) I understood that it would be an uphill battle for her to garner huge sales due to the 'stain' her last LP left.

I just think her promo this time around is not doing her a a ton of favors. I think that her performances (with the exception of Graham Norton) have been sort of weak / bizarre. In her interviews she started out sounding sort of sweet and approachable, but she has been increasingly been sounding sort of arrogant and full of herself. I think the general public (outside of her Monsters) may be reaching an "Oh please.." attitude when it comes to her these days.
I like any good pop song to do well, regardless of the artist, so I hope the stuff she releases does well. There are plenty of things on the album I am not a fan of, but there are definite songs on there that I think are good pop music.

I don't think she has done enough promo in the US. I understand that she has a lot of things coming up, but aside from her VMA performance and her Gaga in Oz GMA performance, she hasn't really been doing a lot of conventional stops to promote her latest effort. Now as a fan, I enjoy all of the extra unconventional things that she does, but again I'm a fan and was already planning on purchasing ARTPOP.
As for her interviews, I have actually enjoyed them more this go round, especially her recent Howard Stern interview.

You are a fan and planned on buying it regardless of promo. Someone like me, who is more of a casual fan, is getting sort of turned off because I am finding her to be a bit full of herself and just going off the deep end at times. However, I do like the current two singles and a couple of songs off the album. Probably will not buy the album, but I am enjoying steaming off of Spotify.

I thought she could clear at least 300k w/ease. I'm still being a little hopeful for that. Skye pretty much said what I was going to post in here. She may have a rough start, but I think w/the right promo & proper single selections, she can still be able to sell a lot of units.

Well I'm not one to try and change anyone's perception. As you mentioned, I'm a fan so it was a lock that I was going to buy the album regardless. It's up to her and her team to try and reach the casual fan and she could have done that with more US promo.

What the hell? I'm finally back on team GaGa after the disaster that was the Born This Way era and she won't even clear 300K despite all the promo? I mean, the woman is still annoying as phuck (except for like the Graham Norton interview in which she seemed at least somewhat self aware and in on the joke) but the music is actually good for the most part this era. I really thought that would make more people come around since that should be all that matters.

All of what promo?
VMA's GMA (OZ) Youtube Awards (not conventional and hell I didn't even watch) ArtRave (not conventional) Howard Stern (eh...great interview/performances of non-singles however)
Now I know SNL is coming up as is Ellen but where is all of this promo that she has done in the US?

Yeah, she really hasn't done much promo at all. I think they're trying to keep things steady rather than a huge first week and then huge drops.

Oh I forgot about the Swinefest (Itunes) festival, where she debuted a group of songs that weren't the mastered cut on the LP.

In the past though, the mere mention of Gaga in the press got the general public buzzing. That definitely helped drive sales and promo. Unfortunately, this time around, it feels like there is less interest in what she is doing or has to say, outside of her monster base. I am very interested to seeing what the reception for SNL. Her promos look very funny. She may start going through some of what Madonna has gone through. She will have periods of super hype and have music do very well and then have periods of folks not really caring all too much. It will be cyclical and go up and down and up again. However, she will remain very much in the zeitgeist of pop culture.

It will be cyclical and go up and down and up again. However, she will remain very much in the zeitgeist of pop culture. Current signs don't point to that road at all. She peaked late 2009/early 2010 and has been faltering since then. You cannot remain in the zeitgeist of pop culture when you pander to your fans only. What's ironic is that the label most likely allowed her to do that because they overestimated her fanbase and did not want her to lose that.

I work for one of the largest media networks in the world and to be honest, there has not really been that much buzz in the office about this album or the singles. Meanwhile, we have been giving a lot of attention to folks like Lorde, Katy Perry, Imagine Dragons, Miley, etc.
