The media backlash is unbelievable. I think the album title has a lot to do with it honestly.

The media backlash is unbelievable. I think the album title has a lot to do with it honestly. It's her turn for a media sanctioned breakdown. We knew it was coming as soon as her handler was ditched.

What I don't quite get (barring the whole Spotify conversation) is why would they think an App that streams the whole album for free was a good idea?

It streams the album for free? I thought it streamed the album if you bought it but if you didn't, it prompted you to buy it?
And how does the album title lend itself to her current media backlash? I don't think her media backlash from the Born This Way era ended, it's just a continuation where everything she does is criticized. That includes her album title but I don't think that title has fuelled anything more than some other title would have. "The Fame", if released now after the fact in her current status, would be criticized just as badly.

I was at a Target today in Buffao, NY.
They have the ArtPop cd priced at $15.99!
Who is going to buy a physical cd for $15.99?
Most new albums are $11.99-$13.99.

I think a lot of the conspiracy theories and psychological breakdowns and analyses folks are doing around Gaga being on the decline are a bit much. I think it just comes down to the fact that people are over her big old bag of b.s. in terms of her public persona and grand statements. She makes a catchy song, but if I have to listen to her speak one more time about this album being ART and every other line of crap, I may puke. Just sing the songs well and put on a good show on stage and make eye catching videos and maybe folks would not be so quick to walk away

Hopefully this doesn't drop too much in the next few weeks. She obviously stands a pretty good chance of having a few more strong weeks with Black Friday and holiday sales, I just hope Interscope gets her out there a little more to take advantage of it!

"Shut up and sing." Err, no. I like Gaga's elaborate stories. True or not. I dunncurr. She puts on a show every time she's in sight.

Just make some fun music, let me decide if it's art. Or the album of the decade. Not worried about Gaga, she'll be fine. Every award show will have her regardless of her sales.

I think to the general pop music fan or casual Gaga fan it is a bit off-putting. She writes good pop music and is a very talented performer. However, my opinion is that you don't get to tell the public how incredibly wonderful you are, the public tells YOU. At some point, you reach the area of people being over it and saying "shut up already!"

And how does the album title lend itself to her current media backlash? I think the title is just an easy in to bash her for people who want to bring her down. Like, half of the reviews have been like THIS ISN'T ART YOU PROMISED ART IN THE TITLE WHY ISN'T THIS ART OMG GAGA BE SO PRETENTIOUS TALKING ABOUT ART. Like, nevermind that it is a great cd and if it followed Fame Monster everyone would be raving about it- they are just focused on hating that Gaga is "pretentious" so making the entire discussion be about whether the cd is art or not and making the declaration that it isn't art so it is a failed cd. It is annoying, but what can you do? Everyone decided during BTW that Gaga deserved a backlash for being "too pretentious" and that has come to fruition now. It is partially her fault, but it sucks that a lot of people are going to miss out on such a great pop cd just because they think the artist behind it is annoying (unless DWUW and Gypsy catch on, of course).

Many of the reviews were about her "personality" and being pretentious totally forgetting about the album. Viva la professional criticism!

Well she IS pretentious. It really started to show during the promo for BTW. I recall her saying the song BTW was the "new gay anthem." My feelings on it were "you do not get to decide what the new gay anthem is..the gay community finds a song that we identify with and embrace. Not just because you decided we should." For me that was the beginning of the "girl please..." with her.

I was talking to a friend who said that the same thing happened to Britney for awhile. The same thing also happened to Christina. Sometimes you just get so big and your image overtakes the music. You cannot trust a general music audience or even professional paid critics to focus on the music ever. It is all about how "likable" they find you. It really is better to just shut up and sing and not have opinions ever.

I think it comes from me loving rock stars and rock music and then, on the flip side, also artists like Madonna and Mariah (some of the biggest divas out there who think VERY highly of themselves lol). If the music is good, I just don't care if the artist is pretentious or arrogant. I don't listen to cds looking for friends or people like me. I look for good music. So, it is hard for me to imagine caring so much about someone who I will never meet's personality and using that to judge their music.

Sing your songs, shake your ass on stage, and fling your hair and I am happy."

Maybe you should have directed your 'girl please' comment towards Elton John, considering it was he who called 'Born This Way' 'the gayest' song he had ever heard and the 'new gay anthem.'

I think that also helps me. Like, when Rihanna started getting on my nerves I stopped going into her posts and unfollowed her on twitter. Then, I could listen to her music and not care what type of person she is. I started doing that with Gaga too and that is probably why she doesn't annoy me that much.

Gaga had it coming. I know some on here say they don't care about the artist's personality but I'm on the other side of the fence. I don't support artists that I don't like. I'm kinda indifferent when it comes to Gaga. She is one big publicity stunt and that is off putting as is the whole "mother monster" "little monsters" thing. I personally would find it embarrassing to be considered a "little monster." I do enjoy some of her music but her persona and stunts make me roll my eyes sometimes.
