Sorry, but 260k does not equate to SMASH. I don't support artists that I don't like. I just don't understand this frame of mind. Shouldn't a musician's, you know, music be the main reason as to why you like or dislike them? I mean, I think Justin Timberlake is one of the biggest asshats on the planet, but I enjoy his music and so I consider myself a fan of his; I would never write him off simply because his personality rubs me the wrong way.

She's still selling in the same ballpark as the other top girls of the moment. This is sadly the new state of the industry with Spotify and other streaming services taking over. It surely didn't help to have the full album on stream for free with her free app, but alas, what's done is done and there's no reason to make excuses for it. Hopefully she can build up the momentum with some great singles from this album so she can be more successful next time around.

Sorry, but 260k does not equate to SMASH. fa·ce·tious fəˈsēSHəs adjective 1. treating serious issues with deliberately inappropriate humor; flippant. synonyms: flippant, flip, glib, frivolous, tongue-in-cheek, ironic, sardonic, joking, jokey, jocular, playful, sportive, teasing, mischievous; {Spoiler}Everything doesn't have to be that serious.

But it still looks bad considering her last album sold over a mil in it's first week. Maybe they should have done the .99 cent thing again but did they change the billboard rules because of that? I think I read that somewhere but not sure.

I think I read that somewhere but not sure. Oh, yeah I'm not debating if it's a letdown or not. It definitely is. I would say Miley and Katy's first week sales are let downs too. Even if you factor out the .99 sale (roughly 440k copies of BTW were sold through this sale) she still would've debuted with around 700k copies, so that's still a huge drop in sales. I'm thankful she at least got #1. Eminem is a sales monster (no pun). And I think Billboard changed it to requiring the cost to be over $4.99 to qualify for soundscan.

Sounds like what people said about the Dixie Chicks. "Shut up and sing." Err, no. I like Gaga's elaborate stories. True or not. I dunncurr. She puts on a show every time she's in sight. yeah, but you are a mega-fan correct? I think to the general pop music fan or casual Gaga fan it is a bit off-putting. She writes good pop music and is a very talented performer. However, my opinion is that you don't get to tell the public how incredibly wonderful you are, the public tells YOU. At some point, you reach the area of people being over it and saying "shut up already!" The general pop music fan thinks she should be a duplication of what other female pop singers are doing. As far as I'm concerned, she should keep being weird and out there because it's more interesting and memorable in the long run. More susceptible to criticism, yeah, but more rewarding for people who aren't quick to bash her because she lacks convention. I think most of the criticism comes from people who take her too seriously (or thinks she takes herself more seriously than she likely does) and tend to focus only on the aspects that back up their point.

I gave her $11 for Gypsy alone, don't regret it. That R. Kelly song got promptly deleted.

It's interesting people made sure to point out the Amazon deal when talking about how great BTW's opening numbers were, but when it comes to ARTPOP they conveniently don't mention the Amazon deal to make the drop look even worse. Haters...

Anyone who actually thinks Interscope would spend $25 Million on promo hasn't the slightest clue of how the music industry works.

Gaga had it coming. I know some on here say they don't care about the artist's personality but I'm on the other side of the fence. I don't support artists that I don't like. I'm kinda indifferent when it comes to Gaga. She is one big publicity stunt and that is off putting as is the whole "mother monster" "little monsters" thing. I personally would find it embarrassing to be considered a "little monster." I do enjoy some of her music but her persona and stunts make me roll my eyes sometimes. Most rolleyes-worthy post of the year

Eh, those numbers are fine. It's in the upper range of what female pop artists have been selling this year. Katy had a MUCH bigger first single and didn't debut with much more. Same with Miley, who had two big songs before the album came out and is talked about more than anyone this year.
Yeah, its a big drop from BTW, but every artist has a decline. Gaga's peak was so big that it seems like a bigger deal than it is. Not to mention, the 1.1 million for BTW has an asterisk with the Amazon thing.
It is weird to think about how female pop artists haven't been selling nearly as much lately. The last big opening weeks I can think of are BTW, and 4 which were both over 2 years ago. I don't include Taylor since she's mainly a country artist and has a much wider appeal.

And the fact she just came off Teenage Dream? That's a pretty disappointing first week! edit: AND THE STICKER BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's a little longer than usual. Ooooh, let the rampage begincontinue!
I wonder if "act 2" will actually be released and if so, will it be within the year? Maybe ARTPOP will only have 3 singles and the second part will be out in June?
I went to Joanne when Patty4President and I were in NYC. It was so charming!

Hopefully they will take note of how the 2 volume album thing didn't work out so well with Justin Timberlake. Part 1 sold well but they moved on to part 2 too quickly when there were still a couple of good singles from volume 1 left to release. Then volume 2's first single underperformed and killed the momentum and buzz and the followup has only performed moderately. And maybe there will be additional singles from volume 1 but who knows. I think that after "Do What U Want" smashes, "Gypsy" should be the next single. And when that does well, they could still try and release "G.U.Y." then move on to the first single from volume 2.

Both volumes of Justin's release could have done well with the right single choices. Though I agree there were good single options left on part one, the second installment would have favored MUCH better had they gone with something else besides TBTN. They went out of their way Mariah style to pick the obvious single choice. Yeah, maybe Gaga isn't in the best position to pull this kind of thing off, Justin isn't a great example to gauge the situation by what so ever.

Some quick scenes of imagery reminiscent of her 02 commercial would be AMAZING. P.S., is it 100% confirmed that the video has already been filmed then?

The main difference being Artpop doesn't have as many potential hits as 20/20 part 1 did. I'm completely OK if we only get Applause, DWUW, and Gypsy as the singles for the album before part 2. G.U.Y. would be fun to see how it does, but it's in no way a guaranteed smash that HAS to be released.

R kelly is r&b wild child and Gaga is Gaga can't wait to be "shocked" by the video!! Should be a fun one! This is easily one of the best pop songs of the year! *I want to note to the Gaga camp this song requires minimal weirdness..I wanna see her dressed sexy, booty shorts, nice wig and giving me sex appeal not rodeo clown.*
