You're listing off your criticism as though it's fact. The verses in Aura and Applause are some of my favorites of the album. "Enigma pop star is fun, she wears Burqa for fashion" is generally regarded as one of the best lyrics on the album by fans. I also happen to think that the Venus bridge is amazing. The "unedited" ARTPOP, as it stands, is adored by hundreds of thousands of fans. The album has already sold over a million worldwide, so people are obviously still here for it. Gaga is simply lacking in the fact that she refuses to record songs appropriate for the radio. Had she budged a little and allowed the label to help her record just two single-ready songs, she'd be fine. The Fame Monster has songs like Teeth and So Happy I Could Die, but it also had Bad Romance and Telephone. The Fame has songs like Just Dance and Poker Face, but it also had Disco Heaven, Summerboy, and Brown Eyes. Gaga's appeal was never creating albums where every track was single-ready. Even during TF, sections of the album was Gaga pretending she was a modern David Bowie. However, back then she compromised and also recorded a couple of straight forward singles. All ARTPOP needed was one or two additional straight forward songs. No, I was posting my opinion as MY opinion. That was my review of the album and what her other fans think isn't going to change my opinion. If you like those particular songs and those particular lyrics, etc... more power to you. But please don't speak on behalf of all her fans. And I'm not talking about her recording songs that are all single ready. Some of my favs on the album would make terrible singles. I just want her to stop recording ridiculous sh*t.

Okay! Better late than never, haha. I've been super busy and haven't had time to fully digest the album. It's thankfully grown on me more than I thought it would based on the first skim I gave it. There's a solid foundation for a good album here... but once again, she proves to be her on worst enemy. If there was ever an artist that needed strong collaborators, it's her. She doesn't know how to edit and she needs to stop surrounding herself with "yes" men. Take a song like "Aura." THE CHORUS IS F**KING EPIC. Sublime even. But then she proceeds to surround that chorus with terrible verses, ridiculous lyrics, abrasive vocals, unfocused production and one of the STUPIDEST intros to any song I've ever heard. "Venus" has another amazing chorus, but then again, stupid f**king lyrics and one of the most cringe-worthy bridges I've ever heard (seriously, listing off planets? And the word "Uranus" should never be uttered in a song, it's not funny, it's not clever, it's just DUMB). "Applause" is exactly the same, amazing chorus, but the vocals and lyrics during the verses almost kill the song. I still believe the song would have been way bigger if they had redone the verses on that song. Notice all the commercials that used the song only played the chorus. Because it was amazing... but you had to slog through her David Bowie/Grandma vocals to get there. I agree about the vocals. Her vocals are downright grating on a lot of songs and I NEVER had that problem with her vocals before. I'm still bitter she ruined Dope with those unpleasant manly sounding 'theatrical' vocals

Don't most commercials use only the chorus of the song they're using...? It's called the 'hook' for a reason... #confused

This is kinda specific lol but PM me if there's a version with Rick Ross intro, Gaga 1st verse & chorus, R. Kelly 2nd verse & chorus, Gaga & Xtina bridge/final chorus/outro (aka no Xtina verse)

40k is definitely respectable! ARTPOP is currently #6 on iTunes!

^That brings the new total to 587-592k.
Let's hope she can eventually scan 1 million.

I think she'll hit 1 million eventually. I mean, we are only on the second single.
The remix is decent, but I like it more for the novelty of Gaga and Christina collaborating than I do for the actual music.

The remix definitely could have been better but I think it's enough to rejuvenate interest and at least get this a top three peak. I don't think having xtina on say something will make pds play this less?

I think 1 million is feasible too, but which 3rd single is going to carry the album to that point? A lot of people are banking on "Gypsy," but I still don't hear the smash in that one everyone else seems to. I have much greater faith in "G.U.Y." I've had it on repeat since the album dropped and it still sounds fresh, yet classic Gaga. "Venus" might make a dent in the charts, but I see it as more of a 4th single/era closer.

See, I'm the complete opposite. I think GUY is a risky single and I think she should move next with Gypsy. If GUY flops or underperforms, then I fear that nearly all hype for this project will be lost and Gypsy will not perform up to it's full potential, no matter how good the song is.

Agreed, particularly about 'Gypsy'. I hear no smash potential in that song. I've seen lots of people comparing it to 'The Edge of Glory', but the former wishes it was half as good as the latter.

Exactly. And is never got the love for TEOG. GUY could be a smash.

Gypsy seems too safe and has been played a lot on her live performances/guest spots on TV. I think GUY would be a fresh song on radio and could be a song like Applause that would surprise people and became a hit with legs. Hoping so..
By the way, has the vinyl of ARTPOP been delayed indefinitely? I got an email from Amazon on my preorder saying it no longer has a release date.

I love G.U.Y. and want it as a single but the production (that synth) in the verses sounds dated. Still the best song on the album tho, I love the screaming at the end I like Gypsy and want it as a single too but I hate how cheesy broadway her vocal sounds, the broadway vocals are kinda vile to my ears. The eurovision noise during the long "toniiiiiiiight" notes is annoying too

I don't think she's going to have a third hit from this album. I don't either. I can see "GUY," "Gypsy" or "Sexxx Dreams" scrapping the bottom of the teens on CHR, but that's it.

I don't see anything else besides GUY or Gypsy being a single. Sexxx Dreams would be great but would be ruined with the edits on radio, MANiCURE would be so hit or miss in my opinion, and even though it's my favorite song on the album Venus is way too risky. MANiCURE does sound the most radio ready, but I'm still iffy on how radio would respond. I like the rawness to her voice because I love Gaga's artistry, but I'm afraid her screechy, growly vocals could come off grating to some people.
I would love for songs like Donatella or Fashion! to be release, but I know they would flop so hard.

The verses on Aura and the Venus bridge are two of my favorite parts of the entire era. It is weird, to me, how some see that as the worst moments and she needs to "stop recording ridiculous shit" I guess that is music though?
Everyone I know goes apeshit over Gypsy and it is really only fans that I see saying they don't get it. It really hits an audience out there-the same audience that adored TEOG while hating every other single off of BTW. I want Gaga to release a variety of songs anyway. I think it is important to cultivate a widespread mainstream audience which this does way more than another Gaga dance song. TEOG was one of her biggest hits along with Paparazzi and I hope they continue choosing to send a slightly more downtempo, "meaningful" song per era rather than just choosing what feels like a more obvious choice.
At this point though, unless DWUW has a hell of a turnaround, I am not optimistic for this era even having a third hit though whether Gyspy, GUy, Sexx Dreams, or anything else.
And then the real fun begins. We will either get a more radio-friendly era soon afterward (within a year) or Gaga will dig her heels in, fight with her label, and then I think her mainstream days will pretty much be over.

There's a lot about this album that's very confusing. I listen to it in the car almost every day and sometimes I love it and other times the low points make me cringe. I think the title is turning people off because it's pretentious and the album is really just a pop album. It's slightly experimental in some respects but not groundbreaking and honestly not profound in any way. It is however very melodic, catchy, memorable, and a good listen. It has some great lyrics here and there like "tailor these clothes to fit your guilt" and then other parts that are trite or embarrassing like "I'm addicted to the love" or "I need you more than dope."
I have no idea what sort of ill-conceived compromise led to the re-recorded vocals on Aura that drained all the life and personality from the verses. I can only imagine that the label thinks everyone in its target demographic has an attention disorder and couldn't sit through the chorus of Sex Dreams without the added vocals to add an unnecessary mess layer of "stimulation." I don't like the juvenile "xxx" added to the title either. I bet Gaga wanted the background vocals in the verses of Artpop (title track) to be prominent as they were in the iTunes concert but some derp at the label thought they were too feminine or real for a presumably barbarian mass audience so they got effectively muted, even though they were the best part of the song. Gypsy is poorly presented, especially when the drums first come in. The song sounds rushed and has the wrong flow. And Dope has a nice message but just saying the word sounds cheesy. Now the video for the second single is at least two months late. She's so talented and has so much potential; it's really annoying to see all of these mishaps.

I've replaced the album versions of Aura and Sex Dreams with the demo and iTunes Festival version and have not looked back. She ought to release the studio versions of the iTunes Festival versions, at least for Aura, Sex Dreams and ARTPOP

It is weird, to me, how some see that as the worst moments and she needs to "stop recording ridiculous s**t" I guess that is music though? Yes...just like music is subjective, so are opinions. The verses and Venus bridge are jarring and polarizing, just like the woman herself. As a big fan of Gaga, that opinion seems to fall perfectly within the realm of normalcy for me, especially when you put them up against DWUW, Gypsy, and any other radio-friendly fare from her.
