The fact is that Minaj and Ke$ha were credited for that one week, so why not count it. it doesn't help their all-time-acts standing, as they only get points for that single week (same with Spears and "S&M").

How many songs does Taylor have if you take away all the countdown singles, or anything not specifically promoted to radio?

49 44 43 Jason Mraz, I Won't Give Up
This is interesting. In wonder where it will chart on year-end?

Red, Trouble and 22 are sure to be future singles though, so I think those should count.

They shouldn't count until they are singles, though. If the Hot 100 was singles-only, which is what we're hypothesizing, they would never have charted.

These are questionable. Three of them actually had music videos. I accidentally deleted "Breathless," but add that to the questionable list as well. It's really hard to tell what Billboard would classify as single or not.

Even if it wasn't promoted to radio, YNS was heavily featured in TS CSI episode AND received a special remix that was put on iTunes. I always thought YNS got a raw deal. It's a great song.

wow, that makes quite a difference in the numbers. I can imagine Billboard making note of something like that. I bet she holds the record for most crossed-out songs on their prospective Hot 100 Appearances list.

How about the Glee Cast? I can't recall anything of theirs being promoted to radio. Pretty sure "Loser like Me" and "Light Up the World" both got adds dates, but, yes, the vast majority did not. Kind of interesting reading this discussion to see that now a radio release is being used as a way to distinguish "true singles" considering, not long ago, the exact opposite definition was used. Even before the trend of intentionally withholding mega-popular radio singles from release to promote album sales, it was not uncommon for a song to be released to radio for promotional purposes, but not actually released as a single, making it ineligible for Billboard charting purposes. Now radio is being used as a determining factor (at least in this thread). Just goes to show how murky the concept of "single" has become in the digital age.

Why stop at radio? Why not youtube? Online streaming? Some music listners rarely even turn on the radio (I am one of them)
Anyway, lots of different types of "singles" today. Countdown singles, digital singles, radio singles, album cut singles. But yet they are all 'singles'. If enough of them are purchased, it will chart.
I have never seen a chart that differentiates a single, from a non-single-single from a true single outside of threads such as this.

With Taylor Swift seeing top 10 debuts drop big on the chart, I believe this is the list of biggest drops from the top 10 on the Hot 100 (30 or more spots; no distinctions made between radio-promoted singles and non-radio-promoted singles):
58 positions, "Auld Lang Syne," Kenny G (8-66) 49 positions, "Love Is in Control (Finger on the Trigger)," Donna Summer (10-59) 48 positions, "Red," Taylor Swift (6-54) 47 positions, "Loser Like Me," Glee Cast (6-53) 45 positions, "Begin Again," Taylor Swift (7-52) 43 positions, "If This Was a Movie," Taylor Swift (10-53) 41 positions, "Steppin' Out (Gonna Boogie Tonight)," Tony Orlando & Dawn (7-48, Nov. 9, 1974) 38 positions, "Abracadabra," Steve Miller Band (10-48) 37 positions, "Get Down on It," Kool & the Gang (10-47) 37 positions, "Speak Now," Taylor Swift (8-45) 36 positions, "Even the Nights Are Better," Air Supply (6-42) 36 positions, "Sweet Home Alabama," Lynyrd Skynyrd (8-44) 31 positions, "Jump Then Fall," Taylor Swift (10-41) 31 positions, "Home," Phillip Phillips (10-41)

SPRΞΞ, I agree- point me to an act who does those cheesy love songs better- I dare ya. :)
Some radio stations play old AT40 shows- i.e. WOGL (98.1) in Philadelphia airs the AT40 70s Rewind from 6 to 9 a.m. Saturday mornings.
