#19That's The Way It Isfrom the album All The Way... A Decade Of Song (1999) This song marked a change for Celine's image, even if just temporarily. It was the last single released before her break and also became her last Top 10 on the pop charts where it peaked at #3. The video was very suitable for the times, visually very bright and modern. Very 2000. And the song itself was a product of the period as Celine and her team enlisted Max Martin on the production, making it Celine's most pop-friendly song. I think had Celine not gone on her break, this song could have presented a new direction for her musically that could have extended her career on pop radio and, if done correctly, could have opened her up to a new audience that might have become more accepting of her beyond Titanic. I think this song could have been seen as a risk but it still did quite well and definitely stands as one of her best hits. She actually seems more comfortable and more in control with this type of song than anything she's recorded since - but maybe that's just me. In addition to peaking at #3 on Pop radio, it also hit #6 on the Hot 100, #1 Billboard AC, #5 Billboard Adult Top 40, and even charted on Rhythmic, Latin Pop and Tropical charts.

#18Des Mots Qui Sonnentfrom the album Dion chante Plamondon (1991) This song is Celine at her most badassest. Celine is rockin' the late 80s fierce rock look in the music video with some bad ass guitars. I'm thinking Roxette but more epic, and in french. This was a regular on MuchMusic's program French Kiss, which was a half hour show that aired french music videos every afternoon. Between this song, Kathleen's Ca Va Bien and that kid Jordy, French Kiss had it on for a while. This song is ΓΌber catchy, fits right in with the sound at the time and shows a side of Celine that she never really presented to her English audience, which is a shame. While I don't really listen to non-English music too often, this is one that I do find myself singing at times and will sneak into my playlists once in a while.

I hate your hate for her newer songs. I don't hate or dislike them necessarily. I think considering her rate of output post-2002 and that she's only had a few hits, songs that became known to me, it's probably more undwerstandable in my defense. I think 6 of my top 30 are 2002 or newer so there's still 2 to come. I think that my tastes changed a lot from 2002 and continued to evolve for a few years after that so those songs I've included still jumped in despite my change in music taste. I don't have any of her 80s material here though and Wikipedia tells me she's been having French hits since 1983. Who knew? :/

#20I'm Your Angel with R. Kellyfrom the album These Are Special Times (1998) Good duet! This song was also the first Hot 100 #1 under the new change that included airplay mixed with sales for the first time Airplay had been included in the Hot 100 for a long time (since the 70's, maybe?). The change in 1998 was allowing airplay-only songs to chart. I believe "I'm Your Angel" was released the week this change was implemented and debuted at #1 that week with the help of repressed sales, whereas it would have been #46 the week before if the change had been implemented earlier. There was another change around 1998 that counted multi-format airplay into the Hot 100 rather than just that from pop (and HAC?), but I don't think that's relevant to this song. a few weeks later, Aaliyah herself would top the chart with an airplay-only single That was "Try Again" in 2000, which was roughly 18 months later. #19That's The Way It Isfrom the album All The Way... A Decade Of Song (1999) Flawless. One of my favorite CΓ©line tracks. #18Des mots qui sonnentfrom the album Dion chante Plamondon (1991) Well, that's the second French track that took me by surprise. Such a different sound. :o Sounds really good though! I don't have any of her 80s material here though and Wikipedia tells me she's been having French hits since 1983. Who knew? :/ Flop Beliner. :'(

Lol Slizzard. Thanks for pointing out my flaws and misinformation. The Misinformation of Max Hill!
But thanks for setting the record straight. I knew the song was Try Again but it didn't really hit me that it was a 2000 song until now. Of course it was the later of her two big pop hits. I wasn't fully aware that the Hot 100 allowed airplay before 1998 though I remember reading recently that it used to in the 70s or something. So it's good to know that factoid now.
I am somewhat familiar with Celine's 1987 French album Incognito, as I had the cassette for that too. But nothing other than the title track ever kept itself in my memory, especially enough to make this list.

#17Love Can Move Mountainsfrom the album Celine Dion (1991) Love Can Move Mountains is one of Celine's longest lasting songs. Having been included in all of her setlists since it was released, it is perhaps one of her songs to have stood the test of time better than any other. In its original form, the song incorporates gospel influences while it also received remix treatment and became a hit in its dance version as well, winning the 1993 Juno for Best Dance Recording while hitting #3 on Billboard's Dance Singles chart. On the Hot 100, it topped out at #36, the lowest of the album's 4 singles in the U.S. The music video is one of her most fun and also the one where she comes closest to being a "sex symbol" as she dances with big muscly black guys, plays basketball and the fashion choices. My own history with the song is that it was the very first song on my very first mixed tape I made back in the summer of 1994 when I was 10. The cassette consisted of 3 Celine songs, with this one as the first (the other two are still to come) followed by songs recorded from the radio during Casey's Top 40 (that included hits from Ace of Base, Lisa Loeb, Sheryl Crow, and a bunch of other CLASSICS!). This might have been one of the first Celine songs I ever heard and up until Titanic, whenever I thought of Celine, this was her signature.

Possibly the most hilarious thing I've ever seen. "That's the Way It Is" gets a lot of radio play down here so I guess I have less of a reason to listen to it on my own. "Miles to Go (Before I Sleep)" is definitely one of the best songs from Let's Talk About Love and I'm glad to find that I'm not alone in thinking so.

#17Love Can Move Mountainsfrom the album Celine Dion (1991) Great track. Over these past four/five/idek years, I have come to know more and more CΓ©line music, and "Mountains" has become one of my favourites.

'That's The Way It Is' is so cheesy! But it's like CΓ©line's 'Believe' if it makes sense.

Now it's time for the Top 20! #20I'm Your Angel with R. Kellyfrom the album These Are Special Times (1998) Despite being the sexaholic R Kelly is, he can also be known for his more influential side, as this is a part of. It did get to #13 on pop, but was #1 for 11 weeks on AC.

#19That's The Way It Isfrom the album All The Way... A Decade Of Song (1999) This song was a surprise hit to just about everyone. Sony was ready to move onto the next single, when this all of a sudden took off after New Years. Rightfully so. Was my #1 song of 2000.

#18Des Mots Qui Sonnentfrom the album Dion chante Plamondon (1991) It's amazing how different the English & French songs can be She seem more comfortable on edge in French I think.

#17Love Can Move Mountainsfrom the album Celine Dion (1991) Another Diane Warren classic. It's definitely a fan fave, as it's always in her shows, but other than that it's highly overlooked. It did get a little rebirth when God's Property was featured on a new version for "Touched By An Angel." I remember when we were doing retreats at my high school, this song was usually on the setlist.

Pretty low position for "That's The Way It Is." But I love the list so far, and your commentary.

#16Misledfrom the album The Colour Of My Love (1993) Misled is a song with a lot of history for me. It was the first CD ever brought into my house. My sister, the Celine fan at the time, bought the CD single with the remixes the summer before we ever got a CD player. So it sat in her room for about half a year until we got a CD player and got to hear what the remixes sounded like. That was probably one of the last times this song has ever been heard by anyone. It had already been overpowered by the preceding single The Power Of Love, even though it hit #13 on the pop chart, #23 on the Hot 100 and #1 on the Dance Club chart, but definitely by the time Falling Into You came out and then My Heart Will Go On, this song became lost forever, never to remain in anyone's memory until today. The video for the song once again shows Celine's new mature image as she's wearing mom slacks, putting on makeup and shaving her legs. At this point in time, Celine looked like the target audience for romance novels. This song is reminiscent of the sound at the time fusing Janet Jackson style R&B with upbeat pop, sounding not much like anything else she's released as a single.

#15Think Twicefrom the album The Colour Of My Love (1993) Think Twice was a huge hit in Europe. 7 weeks at #1 in the UK, 9 in Ireland, Belgium (5), Netherlands (4), Norway (4), Sweden (3) and Denmark (2), #2 in Australia, Top 5 Canadian sales and Top 15 Canadian airplay, #21 Billboard AC and #95 Hot 100. Why did it underperform in North America? This song is classic Celine, just like all of The Colour Of My Love. This album was Celine's first to show a more mature, womanly image as she cut her hair short and showed off a more elegant look than her previous records. As I said in Misled, Celine looks like the target audience for romance novels and book club gossip. The song, if released today, would probably be classified as a country song if Celine were an unknown and promoted that way. It's simply a hot song because Celine's vocals are on fire. I'm surprised the ice figures in the video don't melt between her voice, her jean jacket and the guy who plays her love interest. A very rugged 90s looking man that wins in every romance novel. Yep, Celine had it!

#15Think Twicefrom the album The Colour Of My Love (1993) This is actually one of my mom's favorite songs from her. It's so weird how it's her biggest hit in the UK but it was a total flop here. And you're right, I really could see this song covered today as a country song.

#14All By Myselffrom the album Falling Into You (1996) It seems weird to listen to this song now and remember that it was a Top 10 Pop radio hit, a #4 Hot 100 hit and #6 UK. It was the only time a third single from a Celine album hit the Top 10 on pop radio (assuming Beauty & The Beast doesn't count as the first single from 'Celine Dion'). The song itself, a cover of Eric Carmen's 1970s hit, is pretty simple with one verse, a chorus, a few lines for verse 2, chorus, an instrumental break and a repeat of most of the verse again. Yet it's memorable and looking back at Celine's hitography, it does stand out from the rest because it has a simple yet crystal pure quality to it. I think this song's popularity occurred during the peak of my fandom for Celine. By this point in late 1996/early 97, I had graduated from second-rate fan to ultimate fan as Falling Into You was the first Celine album (cassette) I got on my own (if you remember, everything up until now was from my sister). So it was thrilling to experience Celine's popularity for this album from the beginning. The music video for the song is made up primarily of the photoshoot for the album, indicating that its success may have been a surprise or, at the very least, the video was a last minute thing. While I don't know why no other tracks from the album were released after this one, I think it's interesting to point out that Falling Into You is her only album to produce 3 Top 10 hits on the Hot 100 (and her second and last to do so on R&R's CHR/Pop chart, again, if you count B&TB as a single from her album) and that over the course of her career, she's only had 18 Top 40 hits (on R&R), 10 of which went Top 10 and 2 to #1. Over on the Hot 100, she's had 21 hits, 10 Top 10s and 4 #1s.

#14All By Myselffrom the album Falling Into You (1996) This is actually one of my favorites songs for her to do live. It's one of those songs where when she gets to the 3rd chorus, you could hear a pin drop, until she gets to that money note. The live version was also the official video in the U.S. This is a classic example of Celine innovating a song, as opposed to covering a song. I actually much prefer this song live. It may be a key lower, but it's perfect.

Oh, I didn't know the live version was the official video. I thought there was only one video (the one I posted) until I read the wiki page earlier.

#13If You Asked Me Tofrom the album Celine Dion (1991) Celine's third big hit in the US and first #1 in Canada, it was the first single from her second english album, a cover of Patti LaBelle's version from just three years ago. The b-side to the single, Love You Blind, was co-written by Sheryl Crow... several years before her breakthrough. Interesting! Like Think Twice, I could see this song as a country song by today's standards, perhaps by someone like Faith Hill. It was one of, if not the first pairing of Celine and Diane Warren as songwriter, who would go on to create some more wonderful songs down the road. This one is as classic Celine as they get, especially with Celine's extended "baby.....!!!11" at the end. The video isn't that interesting but she has big hair in it so it's worth it for that at least.
