Imagine this new formula had been in tact since YouTube first went online. Which songs would've benefited? Which songs would it have hindered? Discuss.
Obviously, "Baby" and "Bad Romance" would've been long standing number one hits. That being said, "TiK ToK" may have never gotten to number one.
"Airplanes" may have beaten out "California Gurls" for a week or two.
"Gangnam Style" would've blocked "One More Night," rather than the other way around.
"Girlfriend" would've lasted more than one week at number one.
The fight between "Party Rock Anthem" and "Last Friday Night" would've been even more interesting. What if "Rolling in the Deep" had blocked them both?

Kelly Clarkson might need to invest in her videos again... Anyway, other than "Bad Romance," I'm not here for the boost of any of those songs you mentioned.

That Sweet Brown remix though..... I never even thought about those. Bed Intruder Ain't Nobody Got Time for Dat Win Here, Win There, Win Win Everywhere Because I Backtraced It They all would've likely charted! As well as DJ Earworm!

Billboard so racist. If "Bad Romance" had gone to #1, Gaga would have been the first 20-30 year old white Italian American to have the lead single from every studio album/EP to go to #1 in the 2000s. :'(

Single ladies might have blocked Just Dance....so her streak would have been lost regardless I really don't mind the change except it should have to be the full song. I'm making 500 10 second clips of RTW, so be sure to watch :)

"Friday" may have been at least a Top 10 hit. I'd say it would've went at least to #2. #1 may have been possible, but it would've been up against "Born This Way," and that song's video went viral too and had all the making of a hit to back it up (airplay, sales, etc.) I thought Bed Intruder did chart for a week at #89 or something? It did. It was available on iTunes when it went viral, and it's undoubtedly been the biggest hit of the auto-tuned news videos. With the new formula it more than likely would've been a top 40 hit. Possibly even top 20?

Here you see how the 01/14/2006 chartwould have looked like if they used the new formula, that includes Youtube. It really surprised me that the top 10 is completely different with the new formula. Nivek, how do you know what the youtube views and airplay were six years ago? Or are you just estimating based on the number of views those videos have now?

Shakira would've benefitted a lot with this formula. Waka Waka could've been the deservedly bigger hit it never was :'( J Lo's On the floor would've probably have some impact too. Maybe Madonna too? I mean, I assume the views of videos with her Super Bowl performance would've counted too, improving the peak of GMAYL. Same for views of her praised performances of Hung Up.
I think it's good that YT is part of the formula now, but I really disagree with 30-second videos being part of the points of a song. Does the hearing of snippets in iTunes count too? Those are 1 minute samples!

Country singers will suffer from the new rule because their views are not as big as pop stars.
If i die young, which was one of the biggest country songs, only had like 60 million views.
Before he cheats, 34 million views.
Need you now, 38 million views.

Though that doesn't mean country won't suffer frmo it.

Here you see how the 02/11/2006 chartwould have looked like if they used the new formula, that includes Youtube. What do you think of the list and do you like or dislike the new rules on this week's chart? Do you think 'Breaking Free' deserves it to be #1, or do you prefer the old formula, in which it would have peaked at #4?
I think this is a typical 'Harlem Shake' example. This song became viral and extremely big for one week, but it didn't last long.#1Zac Efron & Vanessa Anne Hudgens - Breaking Free (Last week: #77) |

I'm wondering, could Party Rock Anthem have been the #1 song of 2011 with help from Youtube views? I don't think so. "Rolling in the Deep" was massive on YouTube too. I think the 2011 year-end chart still would've had Adele on top, but LMFAO still would've beaten her out at the BMAs.

Here you see how the 03/04/2006 chartwould have looked like if they used the new formula, that includes Youtube. I really didn't expected Pump It to go so high. I know it was a Youtube sensation, but it didn't even reach the top 10 on the real chart.

Thanks for posting these interesting reworked charts. In the last one you put Chris Brown twice tho (#3 and #7) Thanks. :) #3 should be 'Temperature' by Sean Paul. I'II correct it now.
