12. ROBIN THICKE – Blurred Lines f/Pharrell & T.I: 75.187 (+4.195) ▲
Didn't see a lead single going that obviously for #1 since the monster hits of last year (WAY, STIUTK, CMM). Okay LOOH was similar too...

Can't Hold Us will probably hold onto #1 for one more week before Blurred Lines takes over.

Is the new Rihanna moving slow? I haven't paid attention and not sure "where it should be" at this point compared to her previous singles.

Is Pharrell Williams on the Daft Punk song and Pharrell on the Robin Thicke song the same person?

It's moving pretty normally on Rhythmic but is quite slow on Pop. Well it's not actually slow, but for a Rihanna song following up a #2(?) and #1 song, it's very slow.

Would love Pharrell to succeed himself at #1. At the very least he has a good shot of being on the top two songs at once.

I have a feeling "Get Lucky" may end up like Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy" -- big surprise summer hit but never able to quite make it to #1. Or it may be like Fergie's Big Girls Don't Cry, and spend all of the summer in the top 3, and then sneak in one week at #1 at the end of summer

Wasn't Crazy also blocked by Promiscuous? I wonder how many songs were blocked by multiple #1's. They gotta be the most unlucky #2's lol. Party in the USA comes to mind. It debuted at #2 and stayed there for two weeks behind "I Gotta Feeling", then it dropped for a bit while I Gotta Feeling was on top still, and when I Gotta Feeling finally dropped from #1, it climbed to #2 only to be blocked by "Down" by Jay Sean.

Yeah for most of Crazy's run it was behind Promiscuous -- but as soon as it fell below Crazy, Fergie exploded above Crazy. (Although Fergie had her comeuppance when Fergalicious was blocked, despite having record-high sales at the time.) LOL it got blocked by Irreplaceable because Fergie's dumb label decided to cut off digital sales for a bit of the week, and then realized what mistake they were making but it was too late. And then Nelly Furtado's Say It Right stole Beyonce's wig with not even half the digital sales of Fergalicious. Fergie would have her first four singles be #1!

Does anyone know how many weeks Shake It Off was #2 behind We Belong Together before Golddigger went to #1? That was painful. Right when We Belong Together fell, you'd think Shake It Off would replace it, and Gold Digger comes out of no where and zooms past it. Mariah could have 19 number ones!

And Madonna could have 18 #1's if all her #2's hit #1.

I've wondered why Kanye's label, which was ALSO Mariah's label, chose to release the single to iTunes the week that "Shake It Off" was going to hit #1. They must not have thought it would explode the way it did.

She could have had many more than that. Not to mention more potential top 10's of songs that weren't commercially released at the time.

^Actually, 22- but "Loverboy" charted at No. 2 during a very non-competitive chart climate- it attained a No. 50 airplay peak, when few big radio hits were released as singles. So we can overlook that one.

If you want to go old school, I know "Live and Let Die" was #2 for three weeks - behind three different #1 songs. "The Morning After," "Touch Me in the Morning," and "Brother Louie" were the songs that blocked it.

Blurred Lines is gaining strongly in airplay. I wonder if it has a chance to jump to #1 this week?

Maybe the unluckiest #2 song of all time is "Live and Let Die" by Paul McCartney and Wings. In the summer of 1973 it spent three weeks #2 behind three different songs (The Morning After, Touch Me In The Morning, Brother Louie).

They must not have thought it would explode the way it did. It wasn't the single release - it had been repressed - it was the release of the album, that made the single available. Also, Kanye's visibility "increased' just a couple of days AFTER the release of Late Registration because he "coincidentally" made the President Bush/Katrina statement, which he later apologized for five years later.... Further proof that he wasn't only out to hype his album.

18+4 Can't Let Go,Endless Love,Loverboy & Shake It Off And Elvis and the Beatles would have had more #1's too if some of their songs hadn't peaked at #2.
