Good post. FAFA was doing better than DON'T. But then again, FAFA is the better song.

I know it was a good post. I wrote it. Now are you going to apologize for copying the post I made on the CMT Shania board or not? You've now had three opportunities and an over an hour and a half since I called you on it. To refresh your memory, here's the portion in question: How DON't did in comparison to IOHWIB in their first ten weeks on Billboard's Country Singles And Tracks chart. IOHWIB: 50 - 43 - 39 - 34 - 31 - 31 - 29 - 27 - 26 - 26 Don't: 44 - 37 - 33 - 32 - 31 - 29 - 28 - 26 - 25 - probably 25 (You're My Better Half drops off, but Big & Rich's Big Time looks like it'll jump over Don't) Don't will probably peter out close to IOHWIB's chart peak, which was # 16. All you have to say is "I'm sorry. Won't happen again."

... not two discs of the exact same songs and vocals, "dressed" in two different arrangements... Shania actually said on Regis and Kelly that she recorded both versions, and she hated it when people called them remixes...

Shania actually said on Regis and Kelly that she recorded both versions, and she hated it when people called them remixes... The voices on both discs sound exactly the same, not the slightest change in pitch or tone or even any kind of vocal tics that would make it distinct and individual. If she did record them separately, that proves that she has no clue as to how to approach different musical genres, because the recordings sound exactly the same. But it's clear that she didn't do that. She laid down the vocals and then Mutt did his magic.

There are different backing tracks to each and the notes change. That means, she had to have written them twice and recorded the backgrounds several times as well.

There are different backing tracks to each and the notes change. That means, she had to have written them twice and recorded the backgrounds several times as well. The backing tracks...of course, they are different, but you must have either ultra-acute Superman-like hearing or some extremely advanced technological apparatus that would assess any difference in the recording of the voice on each disc... Everyone who hears them says the same thing..."she really saved time here...three discs for the effort and studio-time of one" I have heard ever radio-djs comment on that. I still don't see anything wrong with that, BTW...it's still her voice on the three discs (it may be assisted by vocoders and autotuners, but still her voice)... What I frown upon is the blatant way in which they think they can get away with the "I recorded 57 songs in total" lie... You honestly believe she recorded 19 songs three different times?

So then you are admitting that at least the Blue version was indeed a case of "pin the color-coded Arrangement On The pre-recorded vocals"? Three discs would mean 57 vocals...I doubt she did that. I even doubt she did 38...

I even doubt she did 38... Why the hell are you even dragging this pointless arguement on? Even if Shania only made 1 version of Up!, 19 songs is still a hell of a lot more then your average CD. The extra CD's were a bonus to give the fans their moneys worth and allow them to choose their own "sound". Shania was very generous with Up!....the fact that you are complaining over Shania simply giving her fans more for their money shows how biased you are.

I think you all need to bring the discussion back to Don't. The other stuff is off topic and pointless.

Interesting reviews of the single DON'T www.manchesteronline.co.uk/entertainment/music/singlereviews/s/147/147826_shania_twain__ dont_mercury.html "SULTRY Canadian songstress Shania Twain seems to have mellowed after 10 years of yeah-ha’s and hoe-downs. This new single (DON'T) is the polar opposite of pop gem Man! I Feel Like A Woman, with Twain pulling the heartstrings with a tender and delicate ballad. It is truly inoffensive, but that’s hardly blinding news - Twain has made a career out of soppy music. But while it’s quite easy to hate everything about this record - the flat vocal performance, irritating guitars and the lack of atmosphere - Twain’s target audience will no doubt lap it up." www.myvillage.co.uk/pages/bars&music-review-shania-twain-dont.htm"Just as my eyes close and I slump forward in despair on the keyboard, I think I hear the lyrics 'don't give up on drugs'. What - can that be true? Shania sings about drugs horror? I sit up in excitement, but no…the lyric was actually 'love'. Of course it was…I slump forward again. Shania Twain delivers here a drawn out dirge of a ballad - no, that is unfair. Just because the twangy guitars and s-l-o-w breathy vocals don't appeal to me, doesn't mean there aren't some sad folk out there who'll like it." MC

Ok let me get this right, You hate Shania so much that you purposely go snooping around sites for stupid reviews that place negativity on her to try and rub it in our face? ...either that or you join those sites to write them yourself...one things for sure, you are SAD, SAD, SAD! Seriously, nobody here gives a rats ass about a stupid critics review....and those 2 reviews you posted are a prime example of how stupid, ignorant and uneducated they are. Only close minded people go by what critics say and critics are usually too in love with the sound of their own voice so they try and grab peoples attention by slagging an artist off. IMO Don't! is a breath of fresh air. If you think Don't! is a bad song then I take it you haven't heard what truly BAD music sounds like.

The first one MIGHT be legitament but not the second one. If they existed, I would like to have you post the Billboard and R&R reviews. To my knowledge, it has not been reviewed by either.

"Shania Twain's "Don't" is a wonderful, tender song that Shania sings with beautiful emotion and vulnerability. Truely one of the best releases this well-loved country megastar has ever recorded." A review, by me. Which is just as valid as any other review. Feel free to quote it any time you'd like, Shania fans.

What about audience huh? You didn't post that it went up 100,000 listeners overnight or the fact that WUSN is now playing the song with over 1 milllion listeners. ;)

That's what I like about this board. We can dislike a song and actually share a negative opinion about it without being ousted. I haven't banned because he hasn't done anything worthy of banning. Disliking Shania isn't grounds for removal from the board. The only people throwing insults and getting riled up are the Shania fans. If you disagree with something, debate it intelligently because that's what the board is here for. Otherwise ignore it and move along.

No problem with a difference of opinion and having a mature discussion ;) ....although I guess most of you aren't aware of just how much of a troll FrancineLangeInNY is! He disrupts the Shania fans at CMT virtually everyday and ever since joining here pretty much all he has done is bash Shania!

Sorry folks, I mis-typed. Audience Impressions all time high for "Don't!" was on March 08 not March 18. Since 3/8 "Don't!" gradually lost listeners and is gradually picking back up. "Don't" Audience Impressions sampling: 3/08 = 10.804 (all time high) 3/10 = 10.679 3/12 = 10.371 3/14 = 10.171 (bottomed out) 3/16 = 10.189 3/18 = 10.187 3/20 = 10.242 3/22 = 10.504 "Don't!" Audience Impressions today = 10.504 as compared to 10.804 on March 18

It's a slow process, one that may never get back to where it was. Taking off my Shania goggles (lol) maybe this just wasn't the hit that I thought it would be with country. By no means, however, do I think the single is done yet.

What surprises me is how surprised some people are at the song's long and sputtering road... It is a flimsy effort, and for whatever the reason Shania's voice sounds even weaker and more ragged than usual...

It is a great song.. but not all great songs do well on radio..[country radio anywho]... With that said, I still don't think the song is over... Give it time.. I could see a peak of 15 now.. Does anyone know the last Shania single to not go top 20?
