honestly, I wouldn't even call it "safe" at this point. Blurred Lines aside, and that is a GREAT song, what else could top this right now? Clarity? lol. Love Somebody? lol. Treasure? lol. We Can't Stop? lol. Absolutely NO!!!!!!! I think it's a safe release because aside Aiden said, it gives me Hot AC oriented to Pop, as well as "We Are Young", "Die Young" and "Here's to Never Growing Up" vibes. I mean, it's something we could have heard before early/mid early this year on CHR/Pop. Don't get me wrong at saying that of course. Also, ew at "Love Somebody". I'm not so into "Treasure" and "We Can't Stop", so "Roar" is better than those three for me. Oh! Don't shade "Clarity", please. I really like that one ;)

oh come on...ROAR? With a title like that, it EASILY could've blown up in her face. But yet it's fantastic. Why are stations jumping on this then? They don't have to.Considering she all but certainly has radio deals set up, yes, they do. right now on Saturday tho?

She and her team really know how to create mainstream singles. Familiar yet will stick out in a playlist. Generic yet fresh. Predicable yet super catchy. This is classic Katy, and will be a big hit. As much as I'm not a fan of hers, there's no denying.

From Billboard:
There's little doubt that "Roar" will roar onto the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart this Wednesday (Aug. 14), when the new weekly chart is compiled. Even if the song hadn't gone on sale until Monday as planned, the track would have probably bowed high on the chart based solely off of airplay. (The Hot 100's airplay week runs from Wednesday through Tuesday of each week, while its sales week runs from Monday through Sunday.)
It's difficult to predict just how high the song will bow, considering that it will have a partial week's worth of sales fueling its arrival. Based on Perry's track history at radio and retail, "Roar" should storm into the upper reaches of the chart -- if not this week, then certainly next.
The last time Perry was previewing a new album with its lead single was in 2010, when "California Gurls" ushered in her "Teenage Dream" set. "California Gurls," featuring Snoop Dogg, debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and shot to No. 1 in its fourth week. Its start was powered by first-week sales of 294,000 downloads, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

A title of a song doesn't justify the potential of a song. Plus, where would the discrepancy lie in determining what song is and isn't a risky release based off of the title alone? Is the song enjoyable? Sure. I don't see myself buying it, but it's a respectable effort. However, this is by no means a sign of any career transitioning since it's as formulaic as a math equation.

Hell no this isn't safe. Releasing the same thing as everyone else at a time in which the sound is beginning to grow stale is a huge risk. Like, duh. Katy Perry, queen of innovation. She's like a chef with one recipe. Apt.right now on Saturday tho? Record labels with arms that reach coast to coast, damage control... it's really not that hard to put two and two together.

"Even if the song hadn't gone on sale until Monday as planned"
Is it going to be released tomorrow?

Random question but when one says: "It's difficult to predict just how high the song will bow" how do you pronounce "bow"? As in bow, the weapon used to shoot arrows from? Or bow as in "take a bow"? Haha thanks in advance

So based on this going on Itunes tomorrow(?) the leak definitely wasn't intentional. As strategic as her label is they would have never intentionally put this on Itunes a full day before the sales tracking week begins putting a dent in her debut week.

I don't get why it's not up now for pre-order, then the actual release at midnight Sunday night.

Random question: Did "California Gurls" leak on a Saturday too? I don't remember exactly this. I only remember that E.T. was leaked even before CG release

I actually don't like it. I was hoping for something new and different from Katy and it isn't. Where's the growth (besides these "breaking free" lyrics)? I also feel like this sort of is a carbon-copy of Brave which is MILES and MILES better imo.
Asides from my comments, I still do think it will smash and hopefully, it will grow on me by then.

From Billboard: There's little doubt that "Roar" will roar onto the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart this Wednesday (Aug. 14), when the new weekly chart is compiled. May as well release it ASAP since this has NO chance of beating "Blurred Lines" for #1 on Hot 100 anytime soon. In a way, it helps her "save face" if the sales are mediocre for a big star (somewhere around 300k after 7 days, which is what I'm predicting). It's not the type of song that can go anywhere near 600k like Ms. Swift.

The chorus is so euphoric! As soon as it explodes into that final chorus, where its sort of acapella... I seriously can't even... It just gives me the urge to stomp on the gas when I'm driving and just rock out! It makes me wanna roll my windows down, and cruise! :)

Considering she all but certainly has radio deals set up, yes, they do. right now on Saturday tho? Yes-when a radio station advertises that they are playing a song every hour that is a sign of a deal. They probably just moved it up a day or two. An artist of Katy's caliber would be able to do that. Even if she didn't have the deals in place she is coming off like, 10 airplay smashes in a row and makes safe, easy, made for pop radio music. I think radio would be jumping all over it even without the deal. This wouldn't be a slow starter no matter what. So she will have 1 day in Itunes sales for her first "week"? Wonder how much she will sell in that time.

Sounds like a Teenage Dream reject, nothing new. Katy found a formula for a cheap & generic song that sells, and she doesn't want to drop it. She burned that blue wig in vain.

However, this is by no means a sign of any career transitioning since it's as formulaic as a math equation. Of course it's formulaic. It's pop music. Pop music doesn't necessarily have to be formulaic. I mean, any music can find a home on Pop because it's one of the most diverse markets (dissenters can go back to wasting away in the pretentious depths of the Urban forum) with a consistently evolving sound. If it was that easy, hits like 'Too Close', 'Radioactive', etc. wouldn't have happened because they weren't "planned". Just because it's catering to the pop market doesn't mean it can't show some kind of innovation.

This is not a bad song its just sung by a bad singer. My opinion is that it will be a hit and its a alright song but a different pop singer could have taken it to even greater heights. I find it to be catchy overall but its hamstrung by the vocalist because it could have been a powerful stadium anthem type of track imho.
