I'm quite surprised really, usually hits don't take off from Canada originally and then go to the US. Exception is Call Me Maybe obviously since it was #1 here months before it was in the states, but Closer and Sweater Weather have both come and gone here already.

SPRΞΞ- you mean to reflect airplay-only tracks charting on the Hot 100, eh? "the Power of Good-bye" was No. 11 on the 11/28/98 chart (when it was ranked No. 26 airplay and top 20 sales (its peak was 13 in sales, but not sure off-hand if it was 13 that particular week).

^Airplay-only tracks became eligible for the Hot 100 (and the Hot 100 Airplay panel expanded to include all genres). So, TPOG ranked No. 45 in airplay on the 12/5/98 chart (which was up three spots from the prior week's all-panel unpublished chart).

that change is probably the biggest "shift" I've seen in my life. Even moreso than the added streaming recently. I remember going to the bookstore and looking at Billboard magazine and everything looked completely different, and I was pissed off, lol. It was really drastic.

And now it's time once again for a look back at the Hot 100 Top 10's from exactly 55, 50, 45, and 40 years ago this week.
Rock and Roll was for the younger kids in the 50's; and college kids and adults listened to more "sophisticated" type music like jazz. A lot of college kids (and some younger ones as well) also listened to folk music, making folk albums one of the biggest selling types of music at the time. Folk groups like the Kingston Trio were immensely popular; so much so that they even managed to have a #1 hit on the Hot 100 the week of November 17, 1958.
November 17, 1958 (for week ending November 23)
TW LW WK 01 02 08 Tom Dooley - The Kingston Trio (1 week at #1) 6th song to hit #1 on the Hot 100 02 01 10 It's Only Make Believe - Conway Twitty 03 04 13 Topsy II - Cozy Cole 04 03 14 It's All In The Game - Tommy Edwards 05 05 09 To Know Him, Is To Love Him - The Teddy Bears 06 19 03 Beep Beep - The Playmates 07 06 16 Chantilly Lace - Big Bopper 08 11 05 Lonesome Town - Ricky Nelson 09 13 07 Queen Of The Hop - Bobby Darin 10 10 06 I Got A Feeling - Ricky Nelson
When Dale and Grace followed Nino Tempo and April Stevens into the #1 spot with "I'm Leaving It Up To You," it marked the first time a male/female duo had succeeded another male/female duo at the top of the chart. As it happens, the first week that their song was #1; the week ending November 23, 1963, Dale and Grace were in Dallas, Texas for a performance that Friday night and they managed to wave at the President's motorcade as it went by their hotel. It was Friday, November 22nd, 1963, and just a few blocks and minutes later, the 35th President of the United States; John F. Kennedy was assassinated in a tragedy whose particulars are still under dispute today. Suddenly, it was a sad and confusing time in the country and for those who remember it, all anyone was sure of was that nothing would ever be quite the same again.
November 23, 1963
TW LW WK 01 04 08 I'm Leaving It Up To You - Dale and Grace (1 week at #1) 02 03 10 Washington Square - The Village Stompers 03 01 11 Deep Purple - Nino Tempo & April Stevens 04 02 10 Sugar Shack - Jimmy Gilmer and The Fireballs 05 05 09 It's All Right - The Impressions 06 07 09 She's A Fool - Lesley Gore 07 09 07 Everybody - Tommy Roe 08 08 06 Bossa Nova Baby - Elvis Presley 09 19 03 Dominique - The Singing Nun 10 06 10 Maria Elena - Los Indios Tabajaras
November 23, 1968
TW LW WK 01 01 11 Hey Jude - The Beatles (9 weeks at #1) 02 03 06 Love Child - Diana Ross And The Supremes 03 02 09 Those Were The Days - Mary Hopkin 04 04 08 Magic Carpet Ride - Steppenwolf 05 09 05 Abraham, Martin And John - Dion 06 06 08 White Room - Cream 07 05 11 Hold Me Tight - Johnny Nash 08 08 05 Who's Making Love - Johnnie Taylor 09 07 15 Little Green Apples - O.C. Smith 10 23 04 Wichita Lineman - Glen Campbell
The Beatle least likely to? Perhaps, but nevertheless, he did. Yes, that's Ringo Starr at the top of the Hot 100 for the week ending November 24, 1973, and it wouldn't be for the last time. BTW, 1973 goes down as the year of the ex-Beatle since Paul, George and Ringo all topped the Hot 100 during the year, only John was missing.
November 24, 1973
TW LW WK 01 04 08 Photograph - Ringo Starr (1 week at #1) 02 01 14 Keep On Truckin' (Part 1) - Eddie Kendricks 03 07 08 Top Of The World - Carpenters 04 05 10 Space Race - Billy Preston 05 03 12 Heartbeat - It's A Lovebeat - The DeFranco Family 06 02 13 Midnight Train To Georgia - Gladys Knight & The Pips 07 09 09 Just You 'N' Me - Chicago 08 06 11 Paper Roses - Marie Osmond 09 15 05 Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - Elton John 10 13 09 The Love I Lost (Part 1) - Harold Melvin & The Bluenotes

For example, "S&M" by Rihanna had that remix with Britney Spears that helped it shoot to number one. Well, since the version with Britney Spears made up more points than the version without her that week, Britney was credited that week only at #1 with Rihanna. Another good example is "Summertime Sadness." Cedric Gervais has always been credited on the Hot 100 with Lana even though both versions were popular. It's just that the Cedric Gervais remix had consistently more points. I thought that was how it worked, however, I don't think it is anymore, since a number of songs recently have been charting with the wrong crediting. Bad by Wale, it was getting credited to "Tiara Thomas OR Rihanna", for ages (I think ever since the remix got released), even when it was obvious the Rihanna remix wasn't contributing many points to the song after a couple of weeks. UOENO by Rocko. Most of its points were coming from streams of remixes on Youtube, yet they credited it to the original version with Rick Ross. Even the radio stations were playing a remix over the original mostly due to the controversy over Rick Ross's verse. Bubble Butt by Major Lazer. The 2 Chainz remix was used for the music video, and it was the version getting played on the radio too I think, but he didn't get credited. I Luv This Shit by August Alsina. The song recently got a remix featuring Chris Brown and Trey Songz, which propelled the song to #1 on mediabase urban airplay (its airplay behaviour was really strange for that reason), and caused it to finally enter the Hot 100, but they're still crediting it to the original featuring Trinidad James. Crazy Kids by Ke$ha was getting credited to "will.i.am OR Juicy J". Similar situation to Wale's song basically. Even though Juicy J's version was clearly responsible for only small proportion of the song's points, they were still crediting it. I'm sure there's other examples as well, but I can't think of them right now. It seems with the pop girls like Britney, Rihanna, etc. Billboard make some sort of effort to credit correctly, but with everybody else they just don't seem to care.

It all depends on how the label wants it credited. Fabolous back in the day had both Ashanti and Tamia credited for Into You on the chart since the album version featured Ashanti but the video and radio release had Tamia instead. Same with Flo Rida and the label credited and than not crediting Ke$ha on Right Round. Bow Wow and R. Kelly on I'ma Flirt was the weirdest since R. Kelly's version was played and serviced 90% of the time but it was OR on the charts as both main artists.

Where is Martin Garrix getting airplay? Like Avicii's "Levels", any EDM song mainly without vocals would struggle to find a place on mainstream radio...
