So basically no sales and airplay. Well, 5.1 YouTube streams sure sounds big enough to be the #25 song in the country this week, right? Not right. It's still weighted a little too much, but the views and shares were significant. Based on what we've seen, I'm convinced "Forever" would have gone to #1 after that viral video - it's sales really spiked up during that week. It's just too bad that it's a song that already hit its peak and not a lower charting Bon Jovi song. Sort of like GMB last week. With the increasing dominance of streams, I imagine AIWFCIY has a real good shot at passing the #21 peak, despite the loss of the one day Xmas day airplay.

They're getting used to streaming being the future for music now. It does say that there was an 11% increase in sales with 4000 downloaded. The chart isn't meant to measure "the future" though. It's meant to measure the present (and ironically this week it's giving heavy weight to the bygone past). An 11% increase in sales to a measly 4,000 doesn't mean a damn thing. It could have a 100% gain to 8,000 next week; still insignificant. The song is not even in the Top 200 sellers on iTunes. It ranks higher on the chart this week than many genuine current hits because Billboard (in their attempt to be CONTROVERSIAL, i.e. not accurate)is giving weight to niche viral phenomenon anomaly that likely consists of the same "user-generated" clips being watched day after day by their very uploaders.

The 2014 chart year starts next week. It would be nice if BB stopped including User Generated Clips streams when tabulating the HOT100 in 2014, but I am not holding my breath.

I have to be honest, I haven't even heard of this viral video and I live in Boston with brothers who live and breathe Celtics. This is getting ridiculous. Maybe Pulse should start a YouTube campaign to get Radar to chart again or something. We can do it!

What is the big deal about Bon Jovi Re-charting...I dont remember anyone having a fit over Beyonce or Michael Jackson. Is it because Beyonce didn't make the Top 40? I actually like the rule and hope to see more old songs re-charting or even songs that never made it, make the chart. I prefer the UK charts because they do allow old songs to re-enter when they have a surge of popularity for the week. I wanna see Madonna's Into the Groove and Spotlight make it. New Orders Bizarre Love triangle and Led Zepplin Stairway to heaven.

The point of the Hot 100 is (at least supposedly) to measure what is making money. If the streamed songs get the label and artists money, it should definitely count. I think you're underestimating the actual impact of Youtube and viral videos. There is a significant subset of the population (mostly young, and not able to buy much music for themselves) that watches these videos a lot and streaming allows these people to be counted as well.

Bon Jovi, beyonce, and Kanye all re-entered because of viral videos that had the song in the background, not because people wanted to hear the song itself.
The uk example is far better -- it's showing consumer interest in the song itself. Same with Thriller re-entering, people were looking for the song itself.
There's a pretty obvious difference.

The "Whitney" rule plus YouTube = a disaster together. Each rule separately made sense at the time but this viral thing is leading to some really silly chart moves. it's embarrassingly bad I think. I tell my friends Living On A Prayer is the #25 song in the country and they look at me weird. They think it's weird I follow the charts anyways, but still.

I'm wondering if an old hit will be able to re-enter at #1 in the not-so-distant future. I wasn't even aware of this Bon Jovi clip and yet it re-entered in the Top 30.

music.yahoo.com/blogs/music-news/chart-watch-lorde-other-top-teens-013711041.htmlChart Watch: Lorde & Other Top TeensBy Paul Grein - Yahoo Music- Nov. 20, 2013 Lorde's "Royals" tops the Hot 100 for the eighth week. Lorde, 17, is first teenager to spend eight or more weeks at #1 since 2005, when Mario (then 18) spent nine weeks on top with "Let Me Love You." There have been only two other cases since 1955 where a solo artist or group member as young as 17 has remained at #1 for eight or more weeks. Chris "Mack Daddy" Kelly and Chris "Daddy Mack" Smith, who comprised the hip-hop duo Kris Kross, were each 13 when "Jump" spent eight weeks on top in 1992. Monica was 17 when "The Boy Is Mine" spent 13 weeks on top in 1998. (Brandy, her partner on that smash, was 19.) "Royals" has exceptionally broad appeal. It's #1 on Hot Rock Songs for the 12th week, but it also cracks the top 10 on the Adult Contemporary airplay chart. "The Monster" by Eminem featuring Rihanna holds at #2 for the second week after debuting at #3 two weeks ago. This is almost identical to the chart performance of the pair's first hit, "Love The Way You Lie." That song debuted at #2 and stayed there for three weeks before reaching #1 in its fourth chart week. This smash may very well follow suit and jump to #1 next week. Billboard reports that Lorde's lead over the Eminem/Rihanna smash dropped from 18% last week to 9% this week. "The Monster" holds at #1 on Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs for the third week. Rihanna has a second song in the top 40 on the Hot 100. "What Now" vaults from #80 to #39 in its fourth week. Avicii's "Wake Me Up!" rebounds from #5 to #4, matching its highest ranking to date. The song is #1 on Dance/Electronic Songs for the 11th week. The song has sold 2,766,000 copies, which puts it at #5 on Nielsen SoundScan's running list of the best-selling Dance/Electronic Songs in its history. David Guetta is the lead artist on the top three: "Titanium" (featuring Sia, 3,674,000), "Sexy Chick" (featuring Akon, 3,487,000) and "Without You" (featuring Usher, 2,935,000). "Get Lucky" by Daft Punk featuring Pharrell Williams is fourth on the list (2,896,000). "Timber" by Pitbull featuring Ke$ha jumps from #15 to #10. It's the ninth top 10 hit for both artists. This is Pitbull's third collabo with a female artist to reach the top 10. It follows Jennifer Lopez's "On The Floor," on which he was featured, and his own "Feel This Moment" (featuring Christina Aguilera). (As an aside, Patty Loveless had a #1 country hit in August 1989 with "Timber, I'm Falling In Love.") The Top Five: Lorde’s "Royals" holds at #1 for the eighth week in its 20th week on the chart. This is its 12th week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #3 (158K)…"The Monster" by Eminem featuring Rihanna holds at #2 for the second week in its third week on the chart. This is its third week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #1 (243K)…Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball" holds at #3 for the second week in its 13th week on the chart. This is its 10th week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #10 (105K)… Avicii’s "Wake Me Up!" rebounds from #5 to #4 in its 21st week on the chart. This is its 13th week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #6 (119K)…Katy Perry’s "Roar" dips from #4 to #5 in its 15th week on the chart. This is its 14th week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #7 (117K). The Second Five: OneRepublic's "Counting Stars" jumps from #7 to #6 in its 22nd week on the chart. This is its fourth week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #2 (163K)…Imagine Dragons' "Demons" jumps from #9 to #7 in its 30th week on the chart. This is its fourth week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #5 (129K)…"Hold On, We’re Going Home" by Drake featuring Majid Jordan drops from #6 to #8 in its 15th week on the chart. This is its 11th week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #14 (71K)… Lady Gaga’s "Applause" rebounds from #10 to #9 in its 14th week on the chart. It has been in the top 10 the entire time. Digital sales rank: #15 (63K)… "Timber" by Pitbull featuring Ke$ha jumps from #15 to #10 in its sixth week on the chart. It's the ninth top 10 hit for both artists. Digital sales rank: #4 (144K). Lady Gaga's "Dope" drops from #8 to #71 in its second week. But her "Do What U Want" (featuring R. Kelly) rebounds from #48 to #18 in its fourth week. The song debuted and peaked (so far, anyway) at #13. It's vying to become the 14th top 10 hit for both artists. Passenger's "Let Her Go" jumps from #12 to #11 in its 16th week. Digital sales rank: #8 (113K). Passenger is the stage name of British singer/songwriter Michael David Rosenberg. "Let Her Go" reached #2 on the U.K.'s Official Singles Chart…."23" by Mike WiLL Made-It featuring Miley Cyrus, Wiz Khalifa & Juicy J jumps from #17 to #12 in its ninth week. The song has already climbed as high as #11…Katy Perry's "Unconditionally" leaps from #21 to #16 in its fourth week. It's vying to become her 13th top 10 hit. The Neighbourhood's "Sweater Weather" jumps from #29 to #17 in its 23rd week…"My Hitta" by YG featuring Jeezy & Rich Homie Quan jumps from #24 to #19 in its seventh week…"Stay The Night" by Zedd featuring Hayley Williams jumps from #34 to #22 in its ninth week…AWOLNATION's "Sail" jumps from #35 to #23 in its 63rd week. The song has climbed as high as #17. Bon Jovi's 1987 smash "Livin' On A Prayer" re-enters the chart at #25. The song logged four weeks at #1 in 1987, a total matched by only one other single that year: George Michael's "Faith"…Sara Bareilles' "Brave" finally cracks the top 30, jumping from #37 to #27 in its 23rd week. It's Bareilles' first top 30 hit since her 2007 breakthrough smash "Love Song," which reached #4…"White Walls" by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis featuring ScHoolboy Q & Hollis jumps from #39 to #31 in its ninth week. "We Were Us" by Keith Urban & Miranda Lambert drops from #26 to #33 in its 10th week. The song is #1 on Hot Country Songs for the second week…Florida Georgia Line's "Stay" jumps from #47 to #37 in its fifth week. Matthew Schuler's version of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" is the week's top new entry (as opposed to re-entry) at #40. Digital sales rank: #9 (106K). This is the second version of this classic song to make the top 40 on the Hot 100. A version by Justin Timberlake & Matt Morris featuring Charlie Sexton from Hope For Haiti Now reached #13 in 2010. Three other artists have put the song on the Hot 100: Kate Voegele (#68 in 2008), Lee DeWyze (#44 in 2010) and k.d. lang (#61 in 2010). Cohen's original version appeared on his album Various Positions in 1984. Jeff Buckley's famous cover version appeared on his album Grace in 1995. Schuler is a contestant on Season 5 of The Voice. Ellie Goulding's "Burn" jumps from #57 to #48 in its 11th week.. The song topped the U.K.'s Official Singles Chart for three weeks over the summer…Justin Bieber's "All Bad" is the week's second highest new entry at #50. Another week, another Justin single…Bastille's "Pompeii" jumps from #66 to #53 in its 14th week…Parmalee's "Carolina" jumps from #65 to #57 in its ninth week…David Nail's "Whatever She's Got" jumps from #70 to #61 in its seventh week….John Legend's "All Of Me" jumps from #97 to #66 in its sixth week. "Show Me" by Kid Ink featuring Chris Brown re-enters the chart at #68… Martin Garrix's "Animals" drops from #81 to #83 in its ninth week. The song has climbed as high as #75. "Animals" enters The U.K.'s Official Singles Chart at #1 this week. With Lorde at #1 on the Hot 100, this means that a 17-year old is #1 in both the U.S. and the U.K. this week. ("Royals" reached #1 in the U.K. three weeks ago.) Drake's "The Language" re-enters the chart at #89. The song has climbed as high as #51…Another Drake song, "Pound Cake" (featuring Jay Z) re-enters at #96. The song has climbed as high as #65…In between the two Drake songs, American Authors' "The Best Day Of My Life" debuts at #93. The song has been featured in a Lowe's TV ad, on ESPN and in a trailer for the upcoming Vince Vaughn movie Delivery Man. American Authors are a Brooklyn-based indie rock band. Romeo Santos' "Propuesta Indecente" re-enters the chart at #98. The song has climbed as high as #79…Jon Pardi's "Up All Night" debuts at #99. It's from the country singer's debut album, Write You A Song, which is due early next year…Daughtry's "Waiting For Superman" re-enters at #100. The song has climbed as high as #70. More songs re-entered the chart this week (six) than debuted for the first time (four). These are strange times in chartland. Bruno Mars has two reasons to celebrate this week. His 2010 smash "Just The Way You Are" becomes the 25th song to top the 6 million mark in digital sales. Also, Mars becomes the third artist to top the 2 million mark in digital sales in 2013 with three different songs. (And he's the only one to do it entirely on his own, without any collabos.) "Treasure" tops the 2 million mark this week. "When I Was Your Man" has sold 3,845,000 copies so far this year. "Locked Out Of Heaven" has sold 2,086,000. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and Justin Timberlake have also achieved this feat, counting collabos. Thomas Rhett's "It Goes Like This" tops the 1 million mark in digital sales this week. It's the 15th country song to sell 1 million digital copies in 2013. The year's top three country sellers are Florida Georgia Line's "Cruise" (4,479,000), Darius Rucker's "Wagon Wheel" (2,412,000) and "Boys 'Round Here" by Blake Shelton featuring Pistol Annies (2,149,000).

When you're generating 5 million views on a song then someone is getting paid for it like the music publisher and whoever owns rights to the song so it should count just like how you count a purchase. That's why it's given weight. Streaming is increasingly how the music business is making money. I think it's fine because 5 million views shows a lot more level of interest than whatever song was displaced. I like seeing some of these old songs pop back up on the charts.

You think I Will Always Love You would have had a chance if the current rules were in effect when Whitney died? I'm sure a lot of people watched the video on youtube and streamed it on Spotify, in addition to the big downloads it got.

What's really bad is that "Livin' on a Prayer," "Get Me Bodied," and that one Kanye song all charted pretty highly due to being "viral" that week, but I didn't even know of a video using those songs until the Hot 100 came out for those weeks, and I know I'm not the only one since literally no one was discussing those songs until after the Hot 100 came out. So were the videos really "viral"? What constitutes it as viral?
I really think views for videos that just happen to feature a song shouldn't count. Now had the "Livin' on a Prayer" music video gone viral for some weird reason, then by all means, let it count, but a random video that just so happens to feature "Livin' on a Prayer"? Just doesn't make sense.

In order for an old classic to possibly debut at (or REenter) #1 , someone will have to pass away. Not that I want that to happen. BUT what will happen when Madonna, Cher, Mariah or Prince dies...They have a huge discography. Would it be possible one of them could take over half the chart?

Someone needs to create a viral video for Into The Groove by Madonna. That is a classic that the average person would think was a top 10 song but it was not because it was a b side i think. It deserves to get a official top 10 peak.
