Haha, we had three Hills in that 1998 top 10 - Lauryn, Faith, and Dru.
If you're only going to have one hit, Deborah Cox could have done a lot worse. That song was huge and lasted forever at #2.
Edit: Oops, I just looked & she had one more top ten - We Can't Be Friends. I don't remember that one!

The comeback story for Britney has been over for a long time so that's why i guess she's not performing well now. With that said I like Perfume better than her Femme Fatale singles
Rooting for Counting Stars for #1, if not then have great longevity please

The Jean-Claude Van Damme Volvo commercial has amassed 34 million views in the last 6 days. Will that be enough US views to get Enya's "Only Time" back on the Hot 100?

But she's a pop girl in my book.

"Diamonds" topped the R&B chart because of the change in methodology, but I don't recall it getting big airplay at urban radio?

"Diamonds" topped the R&B chart because of the change in methodology, but I don't recall it getting big airplay at urban radio? It went Top 20 on Urban radio before the remix with Kanye which gave it some longevity. Really hoping The Monster can snatch that #1 this week.

^Ahh, OK. Thanks. But I do recall that it was charting in the low region of the urban airplay chart, until BB changed the methodology and it appeared at No. 1 R&B.

Yeah; I mean, though, that urban radio let the new R&B chart dictate its play of "Diamonds." :)

That 1998 top 10 is AWESOME and probably the best top 10 I've seen in a long time because I remember every last one of those songs. "Doo Wop", "The First Night", and "Nobody's Supposed To be Here" were JAMS! UGH now we're dealing with this shitfest of 2013.

Yeah; I mean, though, that urban radio let the new R&B chart dictate its play of "Diamonds." :) The song had only been out a few weeks when they changed the rules, and was already #60-something on urban airplay at the time, so it was clearly heading for a top 20 peak imo (regardless of any rule changes). I don't think the stations really care about the chart. Can't Hold Us got #1 on R&B/Hip hop songs, but only I think #43 on the urban airplay chart. Songs like Royals, Get Lucky, The Way and Mirrors weren't included on the chart, but still received hundreds of spins. Some songs just take a while to take off I guess, especially when DJs are unsure how their audience will respond to the songs. Diamonds was the same situation as currently with The Monster. They weren't in the top 50 on urban airplay yet when they first got to #1 on R&B/hip hop songs, but The Monster is likely to get a top 20 peak on urban airplay imo (entered the top 50 a few days ago), and I thought the same about Diamonds at the time.

velaxti- I do recall many being perplexed at the R&B designation of "Diamonds," though- do you see it as a very urban-sounding track?

Diamonds actually did well on R&B radio........ No it didn't. For a song that spent 14 weeks at #1 on that bullsh*t R&B chart, only getting to the top 20 after it debuted at #1 is not pretty well.

I remember Diamonds reaching around #11 on Urban radio but NB, Pour It Up and Loveee Song started to chart there. They had so much to choose from. For Rihanna to be such "pop" artist she has a lot of R&B hits. ;)

Billboard.com:
Over on the Digital Songs chart, Eminem's "The Monster," featuring Rihanna, returns to No. 1 with 243,000 downloads sold (up 62% after last week's sum was deflated due to iTunes' Complete My Album returns.). Last week's leader, A Great Big World's "Say Something," featuring Christina Aguilera, falls to No. 12 with 76,000 (down 60%). OneRepublic's "Counting Stars" hits a new high in both sales and chart position, as it climbs 3-2 with 163,000 (up 7%). Lorde's "Royals" slips 2-3 with 158,000 (down 15%), and Pitbull's "Timber," featuring Ke$ha, jumps 8-4 with 144,000 (up 20%). Imagine Dragons' "Demons" drives to a new peak, rising 10-5 with 129,000 (up 17%), Avicii's "Wake Me Up!" is steady at No. 6 with 119,000 (down 6%), and Perry's "Roar" falls 5-7 with 117,000 (down 14%). Passenger's "Let Her Go" rises 9-8 with 113,000 (down 4%) while "The Voice" contestant Matthew Schuler debuts at No. 9 with his cover of "Hallelujah" (106,000). Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball" closes out the top 10, dropping 7-10 with 105,000 (down 13%). Digital track sales this past week totaled 19.9 million downloads, down 4% compared with last week (20.6 million) and down 10% stacked next to the comparable week of 2012 (22 million).
