Someone needs to create a viral video for Into The Groove by Madonna. That is a classic that the average person would think was a top 10 song but it was not because it was a b side i think. It deserves to get a official top 10 peak. or any peak. Did it officially chart ever?

Into The Groove has never charted on the Hot 100, just like how some people have never charted on the Sanity 100.

ITG is one of those weird ones, which brings out the Holiday Guy postings. Like if I say, where did this chart on CHR, he'll be the one to repost. Just wait.

Not to show my age but the song was a hit song on radio, it was played all the time! The song was on the reissue of the Like A Virgin album and released outside of the US as the 4rth single from the album even though it was also to the Desperately Seeking Susan movie. In the US it was the B-side to Angel, and because of the rules at the time it could not chart.

Can someone explain something now that we are discussing the Hot 100 and it's rules.
Since billboard allows promotional songs that are not official songs to chart , does this mean that it officially counts as part of how many top 10 or whatever songs an artist has?
If that is the case it really puts artist of previous time periods at a disadvantage in the record books because everyone releases promos these days and it can really increase and inflate an artist tallies.

Of course, SPRΞΞ. :)
"Groove" was only the B-side of the 12-inch "Angel" single- though Billboard charted it on the Black Single chart and not the Hot 100, it did chart on Variety's Singles Sales chart, which reported sales from the top 25 markets (No. 1 for six weeks, while the "Angel" 7-inch peaked at No. 7 there), and at No. 6 on Radio & Records. Not to mention that it's usually her most-played recurrent, and is her most-played song, period, on terrestrial monitored BDS stations since the early 1990s (that's even including new releases during that time). How's that? ;)
These Billboard rules for streaming are a bit much.

Some of you just wouldn't cope with the UK charts. We have old songs re-entering the chart every week. Seriously. Sometimes even in the top 10. You just get used to it after a while.

Why is B.o.B. Headband still charting with 23 weeks? It fell two spots to #80

That's to be expected, though. They re-enter due to high sales for some reason such as being sang on The X Factor or being used in a commercial or something like that. "Livin' on a Prayer" re-entered because it just so happened to be in the background of some random "viral" video. The song is #584 on iTunes. Obviously people didn't watch the video for the song.

Yea, I don't think anyone has a problem with old songs re-entering. It's more a case of where the fuck did this even come from? When "I Will Always Love You" went to #3 after Whitney's death it seemed accurate because the whole nation seemed to be exposed to that song during the week. Same with Mariah's "All I Want For Christmas Is You" during the holidays or Michael Jackson's "Thriller" during Halloween. There are countless other examples. If there were some huge viral phenomenon that brought Bon Jovi on the chart, then so be it. However, no one seems to know of where this is coming from. It seems like such a small, regional occurrence. For a song to enter the the upper quarter of the chart this week when NO ONE here (we the people who are more attuned with pop culture than most) was aware it was culturally significant this week is kind of a red flag of a flawed system or an over weighted chart component.

Actually, my sister showed this to me last week. I had no idea that it was something that had gone viral, but I was aware of it.

Not to show my age but the song was a hit song on radio, it was played all the time! Was? It still gets played all the time, especially out here! How can Bon Jovi chart due to a random viral video when NO ONE was aware of it? Answer: Not everyone who follows music posts here obviously. I didn't know about the "Chinese Food" song nor the "Gone" video - I read about the video that Gone was featured in, but I didn't bother to watch. Let's be honest, how many people have heard the country songs that chart normally (or the surge after CMAs), the R&B Hip-Hop songs, etc.? This is just another example of fragmentation. You could throw in promo singles, like Dope - really Top 10? One of the great things that technology has provided us is that we have so many component charts to evaluate relative performance (radio, streaming, digital, etc.) broken into dozens of different genres.

It's an interesting conversation amongst chart watchers. I'd love to know what is said in Billboard meetings to determine what counts and what doesn't.

not sure if people saw this or if it was posted, but Lorde got the idea for ROYALS from a picture of George Brett wearing his Kansas City Royals jersey. Now that's funny and cool even tho I still don't get the song. Can't even get through the whole song.

I think the HOT100 would be more accurate if Jeremy Fry was credited with the #25 hit "Livin' On A Prayer", with a little help from Bon Jovi.

The number 26 song was Summertime Sadness that's been out forever. I don't think any damage was done by having LOAP temporarily displacing that.
I'm assuming there was no backing track to all the videos about bat kid this week or that would have charted for sure. I can see some music executive start suggesting music for your potential viral videos like songs that work well with your incredible cat videos.

Didn't someone speculate that "Livin' on a Prayer" could have re-entered this week? Maybe I imagined it.
Billboard shows 25 as its peak. ha

Who else roars regally on song charts this week? -- Macklemore & Ryan Lewis: The pair's stellar year on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs continues as "White Walls," featuring Schoolboy Q and Hollis, jumps 11-8. The move spurs the duo's fourth top 10 on the list following "Thrift Shop," featuring Wanz (No. 1, 14 weeks, the longest reign for a rap song), "Can't Hold Us," featuring Ray Dalton (No. 1, seven weeks), and "Same Love," featuring Mary Lambert (No. 3). "Walls" climbs 39-31 on the Hot 100. Macklemore & Lewis are only the fifth duo to reach the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs top 10 four or more times since Nielsen data began powering the chart in December 1992. OutKast holds the record with six top 10s in that span, followed by '90s outfit Zhane with five. Macklemore & Lewis tie K-Ci & JoJo and the Ying Yang Twins for the third-most top 10s by a duo in the Nielsen era. -- Florida Georgia Line: As for another surge by a duo, FGL secures its second leader on Country Digital Songs with "Stay," which sells 51,000 downloads, according to Nielsen SoundScan, and flies 6-1. The act spent 25 cumulative weeks atop the tally with "Cruise." "Stay" reaches a new peak on Hot Country Songs, where it improves 7-4, and enters the Hot 100's top 40 (47-37). -- Matthew Schuler: As he competes on the fifth season of NBC's "The Voice," Schuler soars onto Hot Rock Songs at No. 10 and the Hot 100 at No. 40 with his version of Leonard Cohen's classic ballad "Hallelujah." The song, which Schuler performed on the show's Nov. 11 episode, bows at No. 4 on Rock Digital Songs with 106,000 downloads sold, marking the best sum for a "Voice" single this season. It passes James Wolpert's cover of Joni Mitchell's "A Case of You," which also opened at Nos. 10 and 4 on the respective rock charts last week with 71,000. In turn, other well-known versions of "Hallelujah" surge. Jeff Buckley's re-enters Rock Digital Songs at No. 24 with a 367% increase to 11,000 and Rufus Wainwright's interpretation swells by 132% to 3,000. Meanwhile, Cohen's original more than triples to 2,000. -- Justin Bieber: He begins the second half of his scheduled 10-part "Music Mondays" series, as the sixth release starts with 77,000 and debuts on the Hot 100 at No. 50 and Hot Digital Songs at No. 11. The first five tracks have combined to sell 756,000. -- Lady Antebellum: Since debuting its first Hot 100 entry 13 years ago this week, StarGate (Tor Erik Hermansen and Mikkel Storleer Eriksen) has written and produced 23 top 10s, all for such pop/R&B acts as Beyonce, Ne-Yo and Rihanna. "Compass," which bullets for a second week at No. 87 on the Hot 100, marks the pair's first charted composition with a country act. -- American Authors: The band, featured in last week's Bubbling Under spotlight, makes its first Hot 100 appearance, as "Best Day of My Life" enters at No. 93. The song begins on Hot 100 Airplay at No. 68 (15 million audience impressions, up 15%, according to Nielsen BDS), spurred by its 15-14 lift as the Greatest Gainer on Adult Top 40. It also gains by 12% to 18,000 sold. -- Calvin Harris: Calvin Harris makes it five No. 1s on the Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart, as "Thinking About You," featuring Ayah Marar, rises 3-1. Harris, who spent nine weeks at No. 1 earlier this year with "Sweet Nothing," featuring Florence Welch , also increases his total weeks at No. 1 to 42. In the 10-year history of the ranking, only Rihanna, with 47 weeks at the top combined among her 11 No. 1s, has tallied more. "Thinking" marks the first Billboard No. 1 for vocalist Marar, whose first unaccompanied hit, "Beg Borrow Steal," debuts at on Dance/Electronic Songs at No. 49 and increases 25-20 on Dance Club Songs. -- Foxes: The singer born Louisa Rose Allen grabs her first lead/solo No. 1, as "Youth" ascends to the top of Dance Club Songs (3-1). She first reached the chart's apex in February as the vocalist on what would become Zedd's mainstream breakthrough hit, "Clarity." Remixes from Danny Howard, Seamus Haji and Breakage, among others, contributed to the coronation of "Youth." -- Gerardo Ortiz: He launches on Hot Latin Songs at No. 19, marking his highest debut, with new single "Mujer de Piedra." Ortiz's previous best debut was with "En Preparacion," which entered at No. 31 in 2010. The new song claims Greatest Gainer honors on Regional Mexican Airplay, where it opens at No. 17 with 3.9 million audience impressions in its opening week at radio. -- Johnny Mathis: Beloved crooner Mathis and piano wiz Jim Brickman bow at No. 27 on Adult Contemporary with "Sending You a Little Christmas." The song marks a landmark visit for Mathis, as he tallies his 50th AC hit (and first since 2003 and just his second of the last 25 years). Mathis first reached the chart in its second year of existence (1962) with the No. 2 hit "Gina." He's just the fifth act to amass at least 50 AC entries. Elton John leads with 69 appearances, followed by Barbra Streisand (64), Neil Diamond (58), Elvis Presley (53) and Barry Manilow, also with 50. Additional reporting by Wade Jessen, Amaya Mendizabal, Gordon Murray and Rauly Ramirez
