I think "legal" was more accurate... It's all paid downloads, so Amazon is included.. In terms of revenue, the Spotify streams give us another 771,000 download equivalents. lol no, I meant that a lot of people download music from outside sources, you know, without actually paying for it. And you said something about Bad Romance being trapped for 6 weeks at #2; it was 7. Gotcha and thanks!

I find it funny to see so many people say "Happy" is one of the biggest songs of all-time when the new era of Billboard charts are only going to promote less movement overall. I think a 10-week #1 will be similar to a 5 week #1 even a couple of years ago. We'll see how the rest of 2014 shakes out, but I could see a scenario similar to the mid to late 90s where we have less than ten chart toppers across the entire year. If Happy goes for 10 weeks, but there are two other songs who are around that this year, how great is Happy really relatively speaking? We will see when Billboard publishes their top songs to date sometime in the future :)

I'd say the pattern is already being established, wouldn't you?

Chart Watch: Lana Del Rey’s “Ultraviolent” Debut
Lana Del Rey's "West Coast" is the top new entry on this week's Hot 100 at #17. It's from her upcoming third studio album, "Ultraviolence." It's Del Rey's second top 20 hit, following "Summertime Sadness" (featuring Cedric Gervais, #6). "West Coast" enters the Hot Digital Songs chart at #6 this week, with first-week sales of 118K.
This is the third Hot 100 hit with a title that begins with the evocative phrase "West Coast." "West Coast Woman" by Painter, a Canadian rock band, hit #79 in 1973. "West Coast Summer Nights" by rock singer and keyboardist Tony Carey hit #64 in 1983.
Wanna know how many songs that begin with the phrase "East Coast" have made the chart over the years? None.
American Authors's "Best Day Of My Life" holds at #13 for the second week. It climbed as high as #11 two weeks ago. The song becomes the 19th song to sell 1 million copies in 2014. (It sold an additional 359K copies in the last 12 weeks of 2013.)
Ed Sheeran's "Sing" jumps from #15 to #14 in its second week. It's his highest-charting hit to date. Digital sales rank: #8 (106K) … Luke Bryan's "Play It Again" dips from #14 to #15 in its sixth week. It last week became his highest-charting hit to date. The song holds at #1 on Hot Country Songs for the second straight week. Digital sales rank: #9 (105K).
"Fancy" by Iggy Azalea featuring Charli XCX leaps from #37 to #18 in its seventh week. Azalea's debut album, "The New Classic," is expected to debut at #2 on next week's Billboard 200, with first-week sales in the 50K range … Paramore's "Ain't It Fun" jumps from #26 to #21 in its eighth week.
Breakout star Sam Smith has another good week. Naughty Boy's "La La La," on which he is featured, jumps from #31 to #26 in its ninth week. Disclosure's "Latch," on which he is also featured, leaps from #79 to #59 in its fifth week. And his own "Stay With Me" re-enters the chart at #93. It debuted at #68 two weeks ago. "Stay With Me" will be featured on Smith's debut album, "In The Lonely Hour," which is due May 26. A deluxe edition of the album will also feature "La La La" and an acoustic version of "Latch." Will Smith be a Grammy finalist for Best New Artist next year? Place your bets.
Christina Perri's "Human" rebounds from #40 to #31 in its 11th week, its highest ranking to date … MKTO lands its first top 40 hit as "Classic" jumps from #51 to #39 in its 10th week … Rixton's "Me And My Broken Heart" jumps from #55 to #41 in its fourth week … "Wild Wild Love" by Pitbull featuring G.R.L. jumps from #52 to #43 in its eighth week … "She Looks So Perfect" by 5 Seconds Of Summer jumps from #66 to #54 in its third week.
One Direction's "You And I" is the week's second-highest new entry at #68. It's the fourth Hot 100 single from the group's third album, "Midnight Memories." That's a personal best for the boy band, whose sophomore album spawned three Hot 100 singles. This is the fifth different song titled "You And I" to crack the chart. Lady Gaga's "You And I" reached #6 in September 2011. Eddie Rabbitt with Crystal Gayle took a song with that title to #7 in February 1983. Rick James (#13 in 1978) and Johnny Bristol (#48 in 1974) also had Hot 100 hits by that title.
"Or Nah" by Ty Dolla $ign featuring Wiz Khalifa & DJ Mustard jumps from #87 to #77 in its fifth week … Wiz Khalifa also debuts with a song of his own: "We Dem Boyz" opens at #92. It's from his upcoming fifth studio album, "Blacc Hollywood."
OneRepublic's "Love Runs Out" debuts at #81. It's the fourth Hot 100 hit from the group's third studio album, "Native" … Ingrid Michaelson's "Girls Chase Boys" jumps from #98 to #82 in its second week. Michaelson's sophomore album in 2006 had a similar title: "Girls And Boys." Michaelson's new album, "Lights Out," enters this week's Billboard 200 at #5.
Coldplay's "Midnight" debuts at #84. It's the second single from the band's sixth studio album, "Ghost Stories," which is due May 19. The album's first single, "Magic," has climbed as high as #24 … Lee Brice's "I Don't Dance" debuts at #89. It's the title track from Brice's upcoming third studio album. Genesis hit #7 in April 1992 with "I Can't Dance"… Nico & Vinz 's "Am I Wrong" debuts at #91. The song has reached the top five in the duo's native Norway as well as in Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Germany … Dustin Lynch's "Where It's At" debuts at #94. It's expected to be on his upcoming sophomore album. It's Lynch's second Hot 100 single. "Cowboys And Angels" reached #40 in 2012.

^ imagine only one song was #1 the entire year...it would probably go down as the most hated song in history lol. For a while it seemed like "I Gotta Feeling" would never leave the top spot. That was one long summer; I can't imagine a whole year with a stagnant number one.

I guess because even on IGF's first week at #1 had felt like the BEPs had been #1 forever since BBP was #1 for the 12 weeks before it...BEPs 26 consecutive weeks at #1 is a record right? Usher's "Yeah!" And "Burn" previously gave him the record in 2004 with 19 consecutive weeks at #1 right?...and is IGF the best-selling song of in US digital history? Or am I mistaken?

Happy is going to be one of the biggest selling songs in the digital era, is the second most played song on radio ever. Right there alone it's one of the biggest songs ever regardless. It doesn't matter how many weeks the song stays at the top other than to us psycho chart followers.

I disagree with "one of the biggest songs ever".
I agree with biggest song of the moment or recent memory but "ever" is a bit of a stretch, regardless of its chart run. As has been discussed before, the stats a song racks up in its initial release has nothing to do with how it stands against history.
A couple reasons, the market is constantly changing. How many copies of this song would have been downloaded if it were released in 2005. That being said, how many copies of "We Belong Together" or some other big hit of that era would have been downloaded if it were released today and had been just as big of a hit? It is difficult to compare songs across eras because of changing markets
Also the lyrical content of the song alone would hurt its chances of standing up against the biggest songs in history.

I think I'm projecting. I'll say it's going to stand the test of time and have a lot of staying power. For me though personally it's one of the greatest sings of all time no matter.

Can't argue with that. I kind of like it too, however, this is kind of a love it or hate it song. The repetitive lyrics would and probably are turning people off to it which would give it more of a novelty feel.

www.billboard.com/biz/articles/news/6069804/record-store-day-chart-recap-vinyl-album-sales-reach-historic-highRecord Store Day Chart Recap: Vinyl Album Sales Reach Historic High By Keith Caulfield, Los Angeles | April 24, 2014 Record Store Day (RSD) shakes up Billboard's charts, as a bevy of albums and singles released for the indie retail event on April 19 overwhelm our lists. SINGLES ACTION: In terms of singles sales -- a normally dormant retail category -- there were 104,000 physical singles sold in the week ending April 20. That's up 68 percent compared with the haul a year ago (62,000) and up 1,200 percent from the week ending April 13 (8,000). On the Hot Singles Sales chart, the tally is livened up by RSD, as all 25 titles are affiliated with RSD. (We have excerpted the top 10, below.) The chart is topped by Nirvana's 7-inch vinyl single "Pennyroyal Tea" (3,000 sold). The single was originally planned to be released in 1994, but was withheld in the wake of Kurt Cobain's death. Billboard's Hot Singles Sales (chart dated May 3, reflecting sales in the week ending April 20) 1. Nirvana, "Pennyroyal Tea" (Sub Pop/Geffen/Interscope) 2. Devo/The Flaming Lips, "Gates of Steel" (Live) (Warner Bros./Rhino) 3. The Cure/Dinosaur Jr., "Just Like Heaven" (Fiction/Elektra/Rhino) 4. David Bowie, "1984" (Parlophone/Rhino) 5. Love/Rush, "7 and 7 Is" (Elektra/Rhino) 6. Frank Zappa, "Don't Eat the Yellow Snow" (Zappa/UMe) 7. Poison Idea/Pantera, "The Badge" (East West/Rhino) 8. Paramore, "Ain't It Fun" (Fueled By Ramen/RRP) 9. Fleetwood Mac, "Dragonfly" (Reprise/Warner Bros./Rhino) 10. Garbage With Brody Dalle, "Girls Talk" (Stun Volume) (The week's top-selling physical singles -- and digital bundles -- ranked by sales data as compiled by Nielsen SoundScan. Full chart viewable at billboard.biz.) The titles at Nos. 2, 3, 5 and 7 are part of Warner Music Group's Side By Side series, where the same song is performed by two artists (the original performer, plus a later cover). The Love/Rush title was sold as a "mystery artist" single, where the contents of the single were hidden from the customer's view until after purchase. Some notable entries outside of the top 10 on Hot Singles Sales include: The Black Keys' CD single "Fever/Turn Blue" at No. 12 (both songs are from the band's forthcoming new studio set, "Turn Blue"), Ray Parker Jr.'s "Ghostbusters" (on glow-in-the-dark 10" vinyl) at No. 18 and One Direction's "Midnight Memories" (on 7" vinyl picture disc) at No. 21.

I'm confused why "Midnight" debuted. Didn't it just come out this week? Unless somehow pre-orders counted towards last week? ???

I thought it was released to other countries around then but not to the US until this week. That would make sense, though.
