Tony Bennett and Barbra Streisand have good shots at holding on through Christmas. These are the sort of albums that if they get out the gate quickly as they have, they will tend to stick around. This is the time of year that the old folks come out of the word work and buy (yes I said "buy" not stream) music.

They could work well as gifts.

168K for Mariah was considered bad, how quickly things change when it comes to album sales.
Congrats Gaga & Tony. Funny thing is if it was just a Tony Bennett album nobody would be discrediting it based on discounts that others have also used. The gaga detractors can have several seats because much to your chagrin the bitch is still #1 and y'all still flapping your gums wont change a damn thing. Embrace it!

This is still as exciting as 3 days ago, nothing is set in stone yet regarding Billboard. Except that Alt-J won't be top 3

denverd- that was a wild theory. :) The sales for "Betcha" apparently came from a promotion with a phone carrier, or something to that effect.
Was Sia Furler's album discounted last week? Or perhaps Dancing with the Stars boosted the set.

The DWTS performance probably didn't hurt the album, though. :) (unless people don't like her performing with her back to the audience ha)

I take Hits to task a lot, but I'm surprised they're getting heat over the estimates here. They weren't much farther off than they usually are as far as sales go (the chart rankings are off, but that's a product of having a tight race), and they also had to deal with a particularly challenging issue in the "Cheek to Cheek" projections. They had to basically guess whether it would perform more like a Lady Gaga album or more like a Tony Bennett album, and they seem to have simply erred by betting a little too much on the former.

^They are not estimates. HITS is not guessing. They are actual sales.
HITS gets their sales numbers from a record label that has their own tracking system like SoundScan.

While we really don't know what the exact process is, I thought the retailers themselves reported the sales to HITS.

Someone here showed me a file from a label last year that had the weekly sales projections. It looked just like HITS figures.
I doubt HITS calls retailers. That's a lot of work for a small magazine. They must get their figures from a label.

I didn't get turned off by it, but I certainly didn't "get it" as well, either.

Speaking of which, I wonder how much her album with City & Colour under the name 'You+Me' will sell? 60-70K? It will depend on how well they promote it during week of release - if P!nk performs live - she will blow people away. (The tracks so far released are stunning.) I wonder what promo is planned. As I mentioned a few days away, this was a savvy way for her to cure that 'acoustic' itch without damaging the P!nk brand. (All that talk three years ago about releasing an acoustic album made me nervous!) I think it's exciting when artists find other ways to explore their labors of love - plus they are in a great position to bring along other undiscovered/overlooked artists and introduce them to masses. What cd are you guys talking about???? I must have missed something...

Several grat tracks have been released, including one yesterday. Out this month. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/You%2BMe

I don't get how Tony is only reason why C2C is selling. That's such a... backwards statement to me...
