Or people have a thing for older artists doing duet albums.

Babs has fared a lot better than Lionel Richie, though, since their heydays. In the case of their two recent albums, though, yeah, I'd say the duets angle worked in their favors.

Just curious- how did Barbra get such good first and second week sales? It's really quite remarkable, especially at this stage of her career. I would say it's a combination of Barbra's selling power & the fact it's a duets album. Barbra is normally a strong seller and has only 3 albums that haven't been certified gold (she has 30 studio albums that have been at least certified gold and will likely add to that number with this album). It's rather crazy at how well Barbra is still doing so far into her career. Legend!

It's a perfect combo effect..flawless promo, great, already proven/successful concept w/ classic, timeless songs (eg:*Lionel etc..), and its *BARBRA. Her name/ legendary status, universal fanbase, and stats say it all- she's the queen of albums in America. Not a TMZ, publicity hoochie flash in the pan. The Barbras, Celines (for about 10 years) and the like (true, organic talents who are ALBUM artists) always outlast and squash the bimbo (female AND male) dolts. ;)

Etc., etc. It's kind of funny how diva-obsessed this board is but then we're surprised that the diva of all divas is still stuntin' on these hoes. Um, I am sure there is a classier way to say that but I can't think of a more apt way to word it, so oh well. It was almost guaranteed that she would go gold just based on her sales history, and word of mouth is going to carry her to platinum as someone else mentioned. Holiday sales are going to be very good for her, I think.

It's terrific that, through the decades and the ever-changing times, Barbra Streisand remains a constant in terms of album sales.

Streisand charted two other top 10 albums since her last #1 in 2009.
What Matters Most hit #4 in 2011 and Release Me hit #7 in 2012. It's not a huge surprise that the right project would hit the zeitgeist. Most fans thought a third edition of her Broadway series would be the one to do it.

This is the first time that I can remember since I started following the charts that Barbra has been on top in this sense. I know she's had #1 albums recently but this time feels different. There's definitely attention being paid and effort being put into promoting this album.
Duets albums for veteran artists are becoming a staple. I think it's great! Someone mentioned Celine awhile back. I wonder if and when she'll do one.

Broadway Part III - release date? some time in 2020s to get that 7th decade - it's not that far away. You bet she will do it and good for her. As long as she has her voice and health, she will record and the albums will sell. It is interesting that one of the 3 studio albums that hasn't reached gold was the last one (WMM) - I doubt it even got to 250K. Partners on the other hand, will easily pass 500K and more. Wouldn't surprise me if it eventually crossed 1MM.

LOOK: www.hitsdailydouble.com/news/rumormill.cgiCHEEK BY JOWL: The race for #1 on the HITS Album Sales Chart takes a new turn this morning, as last weekβs long shot pulls ahead. Our early numbers put Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga's standards set Cheek to Cheek in the lead with 125k+. Can they hold off Kenny Chesney and last week's champ, Barbra Streisand? Will Irving Berlin emerge as one of Q4's hottest songwriters? Will people under 30 finally start doing the foxtrot again? Stay tuned. (9/29a)

They had said before that they were planning to release a version of the soundtrack without the score, but when I can buy the full soundtrack with score for $7.99 on iTunes, why would I ever pay $9.99 for half the tracks?

^That's true. Unless people don't want to sift through the score music.

The songs only version doesnt appear to be on iTunes either. Is it a physical only release?

If Hits is saying "early #s show them in the lead", aren't they basically saying they got it Why even ask whether or not they can hold off Kenny if they're in the lead..right?/duh! lol. We all know it's an attempt at creating drama and getting people to go to the site lol.

Fingers crossed for Bennett and Gaga to take this one. Either way, it's a very impressive start and a project that has definite potential for longevity through the holiday period.
