With the top 3 being so very close, it's going to be a cliffhanger for billboard 200 to match the top spot.

Nice to see Gaga get a #1 album. Barbra showing why class and staying true to herself works. J Hud not shocked but sad that withing 3 albums its come to the point of potentially not even selling 20k?...not right.

As most know, this is still HDD not Billboard. If the top 2 or 3 are very close can end up a very different story than what HitsShady/Daily is saying lol. There have been more than a few times when the difference between #1 and #2 was more than few thousand copies according to Hits then Billboard ended up w/ a completely different result. Granted, although it looked desperate to drastically discount your album during the *first week* on Amazon (dunno about the other sites) but chart wise it clearly may have given that needed boost for Gaga and Tony.

Would the same thing have applied if Kenny got #1?

Granted, although it looked desperate to drastically discount your album during the *first week* on Amazon (dunno about the other sites) but chart wise it clearly may have given that needed boost for Gaga and Tony. Babs did the same thing in her first week: HITS: BABS RUNS UP THE SCORE: We told you yesterday there was a chance Barbra Streisand’s Partners (Columbia) could best the 180k opening week of her 2009 album Love Is the Answer. Today, it looks very likely that she’ll do just that, as we raise our projection to 175-185k—making it a lock for #1 on next week’s chart. Partners will be Streisand’s 10th #1 album, more than any other female artist. One of the more fascinating aspects of this release is the digital percentage, which could be as high as 35%. Traditionally, digital sales have contributed far less to upper-demo artists. While the album is aggressively priced digitally at $7.99, wonderers are wondering if this could signal a shift to a more digital-friendly upper-demo market. (9/19a) Wait... How much was GaGa/Bennett going for at Amazon? $5.99? Kenny Chesney was discounted too at Amazon last week. They all do it and need to keep doing it. Album sales are awful.

Was it also desperate for Babs to drastically discount her cd last week during her first week or also desperate for Kenny to drastically discount his album this week during his first week? Because both of them discounted just like Gaga and Tony. Kenny or Babs actually might be more desperate. Their discounts lasted for longer than the weekend Cheek to Cheek discount...

If we want to talk about gimmicky discounts to get huge first week numbers, Gaga is kind of the queen of it. Remember the Born This Way Amazon deal?

I love how the focus is on Gaga and Barbra, but not Tony. Simply outstanding for him to have a new album over 60 years into his career and potentially hit #1 with it. He's old enough to be the great-grandfather to some of the posters on Pulse.
This music is definitely in my mom's wheelhouse and her bday is coming up - I should get her Babs AND Tony.

How is Babs album? Most articles were discussing the chart record but what about the actual quality?

Kenny or Babs actually might be more desperate. Their discounts lasted for longer than the weekend Cheek to Cheek discount... I don't think this is entirely correct. I'm fairly certain that Kenny's album was only discounted ($5.99 on Amazon) from Friday through Sunday. I rarely see country albums discounted during the first week like that but his label sent out an email blast on Friday noting the special weekend discount. It was almost certainly to try to sneak out the #1 on the Top 200. Not sure how long Babs' album was discounted last week, but I think Kenny's was only a weekend thing like Tony/Gaga..

Am I the only one who think $7.99 for a digital isn't a sale? I mean, it isn't as if you are touching anything physical. Honestly think, digital albums should always range from $7 to $9 bucks unless it is including videos.

Honestly think, digital albums should always range from $7 to $9 bucks unless it is including videos. I agree that digital shouldn't be priced on-par with their physical counterpart so I don't see that as a sale either. Also considering that most CDs are priced at around $9.99 during the release week at a lot of retailers it doesn't seem like that much of a steal. Now if something was priced at $5.99-4.99 and below both Digital and Physical during the release week would seem like a scheme.

To be honest, from the outset I was disappointed at the cost of digital albums. I don't have a printed artwork for the cover or cd, or booklet, and still have to pay almost same price as a physical cd? Don't get it and that's why I usually don't buy digital albums. If I'm interested enough in album, I buy its physical version (unless it's a remix or maybe a Now or similar collection).

I think it's a sale in the sense that the companies hope you are more apt to buy the albums since most iTunes albums are between $10-13.

$7.99 should be regular price for a digital album standard edition. $9.99 for deluxe. Anything higher than that better include videos.

I don't buy digital albums, but I think the prices are usually $9.99+ for current albums.
$7.99 is a sale.

I'm not speaking in the nature of iTunes/whoever's marketing plan more so related to "physical/tangible" items costing nearly the same as digital. It doesn't add up to me.
