Is there any possibility of chances of sales and radio airplay for 'Goodbye'? It's #110 on iTunes and #30 on pop radio already. When will 'Goodbye' be going to Billboard Hot 100? Whenever it earns enough points in a single week to debut. It's #2 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart, so it's very close to making its debut. What happened to sales and airplay to Who Is Fancy's 'Goodbye'? Sales have fallen a bit, but they're holding relatively steady. They'll increase as airplay increases. The release of the videos will also help out. As for airplay, it's still increasing on pop. 33 30 WHO IS FANCY Goodbye 1682 1375 307 9.478 +19 spins -41 bullet +0.101 AI It's slowing down, but it still has a fairly decent bullet.

Waiting for them to kick this into high gear. Right now, I'm seeing more of the cons (no brand identity behind the song/artist = less chance to build sales momentum) than the pros (tons of media attention, tons of speculation about "who is fancy," tons of social chatter, etc) associated with this gimmick.
It's a great song with a great team involved, so I don't really see complete failure as an option. But I'm not presently convinced this wouldn't have done better with a more traditional launch.
Maybe something special is planned for the near future.

I can see Republic pulling some big reveal on who he is with like his first live performance of the song on The Voice or an award show (iHeart and Billboard are coming up). Also helps that Republic is partnered with The Voice.

Also helps that Republic is partnered with The Voice. And, alternately, that Scott Borchetta's involved with Idol this season. Performance space is tighter there this year due to it being a one-night-per-week show, but I could see him getting slots (or "Goodbye" covers, as you said) on either or both shows.

I knew the name sounded familiar when they said it last night (or was that in the thread??). Who knows about Idol though just because of the one night a week thing. I don't really see room for a performer considering it has been one hour a night (is that permanent?).

So after the reveal is the chart billing of this song going to change? Such an unusual situation here!

Sia ha impact!
I can definitely see a reveal on The Voice (which this campaign seems to be inspired by), putting the audience in the role of the judges and we don't see him until after and we're supposed to go "WHOA THAT'S NOT WHAT I THOUGHT HE'D LOOK LIKE!" and the story goes viral the next day.

Well, we have a lot of whoa that's not what i thought he'd look like with Sam Smith and the reactions weren't nice (and he didn't hide himself anywhere, it were from people too lazy to look of pics of him). The song is catchy, and i think it will be back on the top 100 itunes soon, and it will made the hot 100 soon too

Idk the beginning sounds way too much like "Angel in Blue Jeans" to me, but it sounds pretty nice.

It might be a bit early to tell, but this is starting to fall. This is probably going to ruin Republic's plans with him big time.

Kind of funny that it seems they were gearing up for a big reveal when this became a hit, but it doesn't seem anyone even cares who Fancy is..

But the whole reveal thing only makes sense if he is someone known, because if he is a new artist the strategy doesn't make much sense

But it could just be that he doesn't look like a conventional Pop star. Or it's just a way to build buzz. On BuzzFeed, they were speculating that this is Fancy now because it was said he actually appeared in some of the music videos for the song.

I mean if this was Sia revealing her face (which most of us have seen anyway) it'd be noteworty, but this guy has yet to have a charting song.. don't get me wrong, though, I love Goodbye!
EDIT: Listened to his interview, his story sounds similar to Sia's

But the whole reveal thing only makes sense if he is someone known, because if he is a new artist the strategy doesn't make much sense (I'm assuming you haven't read who he is). He is not a new artist, but before he wasn't known. I agree with your comment 100% though. This strategy would make way more sense if he was an older artist or something trying to make a comeback. I think doing this for a new artist is kinda pointless. As someone (Jazzy right?) pointed out, no one cares who he is lol. The only people that care are the radio people, which are probably asked to ask who he is haha. This whole thing is just kinda senseless.

Well, yes i know about that guy, but the speculation continued so i thought he wasn't really the one. I don't know, this reminds me a trick on The voice spain when the contestant was hide behind a curtain, the coaches all turn around to discover there were two girls (twins, and a little scaring because they remind me of the girls of the Shining). And yes, they were great, the twist was nice, but after that, who cares With a little luck, the whole reveal will give the song a push because this is starting to lose steam on airplay and it didn't charted on the hot 100 yet, and i will be a pity because the song is good

The ideal version of the trick is the "it's really a recognizable artist" (in context, Justin Bieber would have been beyond perfect). Another great version involves it being someone COMPLETELY unexpected (a 90 year old woman, a 9 year old kid, etc). I'm not sure the fact that Hagood looks slightly less slick than he sounds really qualifies.
But this reveal still could have worked if a) the song became a big deal and b) they made the "who is Fancy" campaign work. If the song were a hit, people would be clamoring to know who was behind it. Alternatively, if they got all the talk shows, major websites, etc to really push the mystery, that also would have also worked.
They have him performing on Fallon (and presumably showing his face) next Tuesday. A better strategy (granted, they would have needed NBC on board) would have involved performing the song on The Tonight Show back in February - from behind a curtain - and then finally revealing his identity on the same show months later.
At this point, I'm not sure him "revealing" himself on The Tonight Show is any different than a new artist (whom people don't really know or recognize) performing on TV for the first time. In Scooter Braun terms, is this THAT much different - as far as the core Tonight Show viewer goes - than when Rixton had its first high-profile US TV performance on The Voice (that might not be the best example since they're a "heartthrob" boy band - but you can insert any mildly successful new pop act into this context).
To put it another way - how many people watching The Tonight Show even know, let alone care, that seeing this guy's face for the first time is a big deal?
If Jimmy Fallon spins this well, the song will get a nice spike in buzz (and perhaps sales) for a day or two after the show. But I can't believe that's all Republic wanted when it launched this effort.

His identity will be revealed tonight on Jimmy Fallon. For anyone wondering, this episode will air on Tuesday, 4/7. I heard this song a few weeks ago and didn't think much of it. I randomly decided to listen again last night and have cannot turn it off. The bridge is so incredibly uplifting. Quite the earworm.. Hope this ends up taking off eventually!
