Tuesday's reveal is the last chance for this song.

I think the real problem with the strategy is that it was really needed the song being a smash hit for the reveal have importance. If people are not wondering who is the singer because the song is not even on the hot 100 the whole reveal is pointless.
The tv performance is important because if it gives the song a push on itunes it's not too late to reverse the chart run and start to climb again.

I know AP already hinted that this may be in the works, but I do really hope a performance on The Voice is coming - we've seen lots of digital boosts come from both covers and artist performances on the show in recent years, and I think it'd probably promote him to a wider audience than what he currently has. Regardless, I hope this manages to turn back around.

I heard talks about the reveal being on The Voice or Idol, but seeing as the song hasn't taken off in the way they wanted, they probably weren't able to land either of those shows, depite the Voice/Republic connection and the Borchetta/Idol connection. Maybe it'll happen down the line if the Fallon performance revives some interest.

The Voice/Idol should come before the revelation. An A+ performance by a strong contestant would definitely rise the interest not only in the song but in who is fancy. I'm afraid it's too late now for that.

I don't think the artist has to have a smash to make it big without an identity. I remember so many people not knowing what The Weeknd looked like and even believing it was a full blow group. It just has to be done right.

Apparently he has a more detailed Billboard feature in the coming issue (dated April 18): via

Tonight's "reveal" was very well executed. It's a shame we can't say that about the build over the past two months.
Jimmy Fallon did a good job of selling it in the intro, but you could tell virtually no one there knew anything about this "Who is Fancy" guy. He played the song, and I didn't get the sense that many in the audience were familiar with the audio either.

I don't think the artist has to have a smash to make it big without an identity. I remember so many people not knowing what The Weeknd looked like and even believing it was a full blow group. It just has to be done right. that's not the point. First, people who don't know who the wknd was were too lazy to look at a youtube video or google him, second, it's not that you can't have a big hit hiding your identity, Daft Punk never show their faces and Sia went a lot shier in her recent album. The point is, if you are going to make a big reveal about your identity that only make sense if people are wondering who you are, and people only wonder who you are if your song is everywhere and they don't know nothing about you The performance did its job, he is now very near of top 50 on itunes, but reverse the airplay course is very important if the song is going to end being a hit (that performance would be better if it were last week before the songs started to drop, but it's not too late)

Discounted to 69 cents and up to #38. Smart move to get a little more attention for this. Doubt radio will pick this back up though. My guess is that once the discount goes away, this will fade into the oblivion and be long forgotten until we look through our iTunes libraries years from now and be like "oh sh*t I remember this!".

Wait so after watching the performance, I can't with this. Homegirl looks like Zach Galifiniakis and Adam Lambert had a baby on a magician's couch. It's like a coked up label exec saw Sam Smith and was like, "No! I'll show them what a chubby gay guy looks like!" Give me a break. He looks calculated and ridiculous.
Also this rollout has been bungled beyond belief. The song isn't big enough to warrant the "who is this guy?!" buzz they've been trying to play off of. The majority of the population couldn't pick this song out of a lineup, let alone have exposure to this marketing campaign. They obviously set a timeline for this rollout instead of adapting to it organically. This is going to hurt his chances long term (but not destroy them.)
Someone take away Scott Borchetta's cocaine. 1989 has gone to his head
It's still a good song though.

31 38 WHO IS FANCY Goodbye 1589 1915 -326 6.32
Loses another 81 spins today and almost 360,000 in audience. I'm surprised it wasn't in the positive given the reveal.

27 now.
If he likes glitter that much i understand why he wanted to move out from country, country and glitter are uncompatible.
The truth is the performance did the job, it climbed a lot. Unfortunately the timing wasn't the best. Anyway at least this will be top 100 on billboard next week, and there's run to have better luck with single

Down another 112 spins and 2 chart positions today. Almost certainly falling out of the official Top 40.

The Billboard story is up - quoting an interesting section on the rollout below:
