I've subscribed to Billboard Magazine for thirty years.
Until 4 years ago it was weekly.

I just learned it will only print 39 issues this year.
I can't see how it CAN continue to print.

If you are into the articles, you can go to Billboard.biz.
If you are into the charts, there is Billboard.com.
If you buy it because you collect hard copies of the charts (me!) you can't collect consistently without huge gaps (13 gaps per year)

What I don't get is that they have been pouring a lot of energy into new printed chart designs, layouts, etc.
Either its a last ditch effort, or they really do foresee printing for a while to come.

Mark Ronson, Bruno Mars Top Hot 100, Maroon 5 Debuts at No. 8

'Uptown Funk!' rules for a third week. Plus, the police helps escort Taylor Swift's 'Shake It Off' back into the top five and Maroon 5's 'Sugar' sweetens the chart at No. 8.

Mark Ronson's "Uptown Funk!," featuring Bruno Mars, leads the Billboard Hot 100 for a third week. Meanwhile, Taylor Swift's newest fan -- in blue -- sparks a resurgence for "Shake It Off" and Maroon 5 blasts in at No. 8 with its new single "Sugar" following the premiere of its video.

As we do each Wednesday, let's look at the key numbers throughout the top 10 on the sales/airplay/streaming-based Hot 100.

"Funk!," released on RCA Records, spends a fourth week atop Digital Songs with 400,000 downloads sold (up 17 percent) in the week ending Jan. 18, according to Nielsen Music, and nets the Hot 100's top Digital Gainer award. It also leads the subscription services-based On-Demand Songs chart for a second week with 5.3 million U.S. streams (up 14 percent). "Funk" retreats 1-2 on Streaming Songs despite a 28 percent gain to 14.9 million, while on Radio Songs, it flies 6-2 with a 31 percent burst to 135 million in all-format audience, good for top Airplay Gainer honors on the Hot 100, as well.

Aiding the momentum of "Funk": Ronson's new album, Uptown Special, which debuts on the Billboard 200 at No. 5 with 77,000 equivalent units (including 30,000 in pure album sales).

Ed Sheeran's "Thinking Out Loud" charges 4-2 on the Hot 100, reaching a new peak (and marking a new best career rank for the singer/songwriter). The third single from X stays at No. 2 on Digital Songs (241,000, up 8 percent); lifts 4-3 on Streaming Songs (10.5 million, up 14 percent); and pushes 9-7 on Radio Songs (93 million, up 27 percent).

Thus, after a lengthy (and well-documented) run of women ruling the Hot 100's upper reaches, solo men now control the chart's top two. It's the first time that male soloists have ranked at Nos. 1 and 2 simultaneously in eight months; John Legend and Pharrell Williams last doubled up on the May 24 chart with "All of Me" (No. 1) and "Happy" (No. 2).

And, as predicted here last week, "Funk" (up 23 percent in overall activity) and "Loud" (up 13 percent) appear in line to lock up the Hot 100's top two spots for the foreseeable future, with "Funk" likely to lead, given its significant current advantage in chart points.

After topping the Hot 100 for seven weeks, Swift's "Blank Space" drops 2-3, while fellow former No. 1 (for four weeks) "Shake It Off" rebounds 9-5 as the chart's top Streaming Gainer. Behind the latter hit's comeback? Master Cpl. Jeff Davis of the Dover, Del. Police department went viral with his sassy lip sync of it after it was posted to the department's Facebook page. On Streaming Songs, "Shake" returns to the top, vaulting 8-1 with a 132 percent increase to 16.7 million U.S. clicks (with more than two-thirds of its weekly streams from YouTube views of the user-generated clip). The song leads the chart for a second week, having first topped it the week of Nov. 22.

Meanwhile, "Space" crowns Radio Songs for a sixth week, extending her longest command (145 million, down 4 percent). Plus, "Style," newly confirmed as the official third single from 1989, surges 72-52 on the Hot 100, powered largely by its 37-23 bump on Digital Songs (51,000, up 22 percent).

Also in the Hot 100's top five, Hozier's No. 2-peaking "Take Me to Church" slips 3-4. It holds at No. 3 on Digital Songs (159,000, down 20 percent) and No. 4 on Radio Songs (117 million, up 7 percent) and rebounds 5-4 (after reaching No. 2) on Streaming Songs (9.2 million, up 2 percent). On the Hot Rock Songs chart, "Church" rules for a 14th week.

Meghan Trainor keeps at No. 6 on the Hot 100 with her No. 4-peaking "Lips Are Movin," while her debut eight-week No. 1 "All About That Bass" holds at No. 10. As "Bass" spends a 25th week in the top 10, it becomes just the 10th song in the Hot 100's 56-year history to log that many weeks or more in the region. (LeAnn Rimes' "How Do I Live" holds the record with 32 weeks in the top 10 in 1997-98.) "Lips" reaches the Radio Songs top 10, climbing 11-8 with a 17 percent jump to 75 million in audience.

The moves add to Trainor's monumental week, as her debut full-length Title roars to the top of the Billboard 200 with 238,000 equivalent units (with 195,000 from pure album sales).

Below Sam Smith's "I'm Not the only One," which falls to No. 7 from its No. 5 high, Maroon 5 launches at No. 8 with "Sugar." The band instantly adds its 11th top 10 and equals its second-best bow; "Payphone" rocketed in at No. 3 in 2012 (before peaking at No. 2), while "Moves Like Jagger," featuring Christina Aguilera, also started at No. 8 in 2011 (eventually spending four weeks at No. 1). Notably, "Jagger" jumpstarted Maroon 5's profile (unsurprisingly, as frontman Adam Levine and Aguilera had begun their runs as coaches on NBC's The Voice). The group has logged eight of its 11 Hot 100 top 10s starting with "Jagger." It had first reached the tier three times in 2004-07.

"Sugar" starts at No. 4 on Digital Songs (150,000, up 3,577 percent) and at No. 7 on Streaming Songs (8 million), following the Jan. 14 premiere of its buzzy official video in which Maroon 5 goes on a wedding-crashing spree. The soulful pop track nears Radio Songs with a 184 percent gain to 22 million.

Rounding out the Hot 100's top 10 (above "Bass"), Nick Jonas' "Jealous" backtracks to No. 9 from its No. 7 peak.

Digital track sales are down 6% over last week, down 12% over the same week last year and down 11% year-to-date over 2014.

Track-equivalent album sales are up 1.1% over last week and down 5.4% year-to-date over 2014.

Mark Ronson’s “Uptown Funk” holds at number one on the Digital Songs chart for the fourth week, with 400,000 downloads sold, up 17% over last week.

Maroon 5’s “Sugar” debuts at No. 4 with 150,000 downloads sold. It is their fourth straight song from their album “V” to reach the top ten. The album leaps 27-11 this week with a 158% sales increase.

Radio Airplay:

Kelly Clarkson’s “Heartbeat Song” debuts on three format charts this week, picking up the top new entry at Hot AC at No. 20 and at AC at No. 16. It also lands at No. 38 at CHR. It is her highest debut at Hot AC, surpassing the No. 21 entry of “Never Again” in 2007, and is her highest non-holiday entry at AC, topping the No. 17 debut of “Don’t You Wanna Stay” in 2011.

Ellie Goulding’s “Love Me Like You Do” is the top new entry at CHR at No. 31. It is her highest debut at the format to date and follows up her No. 3 hit “Burn.” She is also featured on Calvin Harris’ “Outside,” which jumps 30-25. “Love” also debuts at No. 31 Hot AC.

Chris Brown & Tyga’s “Ayo” has the biggest spin increase at Urban, vaulting 29-20 in its second week on the chart.

“Glory,” the Oscar-nominated song from the movie “Selma,” by Common & John Legend, is the top new entry at Urban AC at No. 20.

Cage The Elephant’s “Cigarette Daydreams” jumps 4-1 on the Alternative chart, scoring the biggest spin increase at the format this week. It is their fifth chart-topping song at the format.

Halestorm’s “Apocalyptic” scores the top debut at Mainstream Rock at No. 17. It is easily their highest debut to date, surpassing the No. 26 entry of “I Miss The Misery” in July 2012.

Streaming:

Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off” returns to the top of the Weekly Combined Stream Playlist, jumping 8-1, with 15.9 million streams. Mark Ronson’s “Uptown Funk” drops to No. 2, despite posting a 1.1 million stream increase from last week, to 12.7 million.

Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” edges 4-3 and Hozier’s “Take Me To Church” moves 5-4.

Maroon 5’s “Sugar” debuts at No. 6 with 7.6 million streams. Other big movers include O.T. Genasis’ “CoCo” 14-10 and Fall Out Boy’s “Centuries” 27-23.

Country:

Sam Hunt’s “Montevallo” jumps 3-1 on the Country Albums chart with a 28% sales increase over last week. It is the album’s first week at No. 1 since it debuted at the top in the beginning of November.

Zac Brown Band score their first chart-topping digital song as “Homegrown” debuts at number one on the Country Core Genre Digital Songs chart with 74,000 downloads sold. They reached No. 2 in early 2011 with “Colder Weather.”

Kenny Chesney’s “Til It’s Gone” jumps 2-1 on the Country Airplay chart. It is his 24th chart-topping single and second straight, following “American Kids.”

Eric Church’s “Talladega” edges 3-2, Luke Bryan’s “I See You” moves 6-3, Carrie Underwood’s “Something In The Water” holds at No. 4 and Florida Georgia Line’s “Sun Daze” jumps 7-5.

A Thousand Horse’s first charted song, “Smoke,” has the biggest audience increase and chart move of the week, vaulting 48-26 with a seven million gain.

Zac Brown Band’s “Homegrown” is the top new entry, landing at No. 23. It is their highest debut to date, surpassing the No. 27 “The Wind” in June 2012. It is their follow-up to the No. 17 “All Alright,” their lowest chart peak to date.

Keith Urban’s “Raise ‘Em Up,” featuring Eric Church, debuts at No. 53. It is Urban’s follow-up to the No. 1 “Somewhere In My Car.”

Big & Rich’s “Run Away With You” enters at No. 59, the follow-up to their highest charting song in seven years, the No. 7 “Look At You.”

Austin Webb’s “All Country On You” comes in at No. 60, his fourth charted song.

Maroon 5's “Sugar” is this week's top new entry on the Hot 100 at #8. It's the group's 11th top 10 hit; its eighth in a row. That's the group's entire output since its career-revitalizing 2011 collabo with Christina Aguilera, “Moves Like Jagger.”

The fast start was boosted by the song’s video, which is built on a simple, but clever idea: Maroon 5 pops in and plays at numerous wedding celebrations. The video may be a little corny, but it’s cute and it’s fun.

This is the group’s third single to debut in the top 10. “Payphone” (featuring Wiz Khalifa) started at #3. “Moves Like Jagger” also debuted at #8. “Jagger” was released in June 2011, just two months after Adam Levine and Aguilera made their first appearances as judges on The Voice.

This is the second song titled “Sugar” to make the top 10. A different song with that title by Flo Rida featuring Wynter reached #5 in May 2009.

And here’s some deep trivia for you: With this streak of eight consecutive top 10 hits, Maroon 5 is indeed “moving like Jagger.” But they still haven’t quite matched the rock legend. The Rolling Stones had nine consecutive top 10 hits in the U.S., from “The Last Time” in May 1965 to “Ruby Tuesday” in March 1967. (I’m discounting a couple of B sides which charted below the top 10.)

"Uptown Funk!" by Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars logs its third week at #1 in its 10th week on the chart. The song logs its fourth week at #1 on Hot Digital Songs. It sold 400K copies this week, bringing its 10-week sales total to 2,497,000.

"Uptown Funk!" logs its fifth week at #1 on the U.K.’s Official Singles Chart. That’s the longest run at #1 in the U.K. since "Blurred Lines" by Robin Thicke featuring T.I. + Pharrell had five weeks on top in 2013.

Ronson’s album, Uptown Special, enters The Billboard 200 at #5, with surprisingly soft (actual) sales of 30K. (Digital song sales and streaming bumps the “sales equivalent” tally up to 77K, but even that is below what you might expect from an album containing a hit of this magnitude.)

Ed Sheeran's “Thinking Out Loud” jumps from #4 to #2 in its 15th week. This marks the first time that male solo artists have locked up the top two spots since May, when John Legend's “All of Me” and Pharrell Williams's “Happy” were #1 and #2.

Taylor Swift's “Blank Space,” which logged seven weeks at #1, dips from #2 to #3 in its 12th week. It holds at #1 for the sixth week on the Radio Songs chart (which measures radio airplay across all genres). The song tops the 3 million mark in digital sales this week. It's Swift's second 3-million seller from 1989. “Shake It Off” is up to 3,763,000.

Hozier's “Take Me to Church,” which peaked at #2, dips from #3 to #4 in its 23rd week. It's #1 on Hot Rock Songs for the 14th week. That's the longest run at #1 by any song since Lorde's “Royals” logged 19 weeks at #1 in 2013-'14. “Royals” won a Grammy as Song of the Year. “Take Me to Church” is nominated for that same award this year.

Swift’s “Shake It Off,” which logged four weeks at #1, rebounds from #9 to #5 in its 22nd week. The resurgence is due to the viral success of a lip-sync video by one Master Cpl. Jeff Davis of the Dover, Del. Police Department.

Meghan Trainor's “Lips Are Movin,” which has climbed as high as #4, holds at #6 for the second week in its 13th week. Trainor's debut album, Title, enters The Billboard 200 at #1, with robust (actual) first-week sales of 195K.

Nick Jonas's “Jealous” drops from its #7 high-point to #9 in its 19th week.

Trainor’s “All About that Bass,” which logged eight weeks at #1, holds at #10 for the second week in its 28th week. The song has ranked in the top 10 for 25 weeks. Billboard's Gary Trust reports that it's just the 10th song in Hot 100 history (which dates to 1958) to log 25 or more weeks in the top 10. The all-time champ is LeAnn Rimes's “How Do I Live,” which spent 32 weeks in the top 10 in 1997-'98.

"Style," the third single from Swift’s album, jumps from #72 to #52 in its sixth week. Will it become her third #1 in a row? Stay tuned.

Luke Bryan's “Play It Again” tops the 2 million mark in digital sales this week. The song reached #14 on the Hot 100 and logged nine weeks at #1 on Hot Country Songs.

"The Hanging Tree" by James Newton Howard featuring Jennifer Lawrence tops the 1 million mark in digital sales this week. The song has climbed as high as #12.
