It's fighting fire with fire ;_; I know every song gets the artist spark (?)
The only thing better about 2015 is the album sales! I do think single sales keep down, i mean, UF is selling a lot, but it's lonely in there, the #2 will barely make 200k
Edit: #2 is 280k, forgot about TOL :o

That was the point. The artist is what makes the song. And I think that both songs' artists did a fantastic job on the delivery. Of course people will pay more attention to a song if it's by someone famous, but I don't get your point in saying that... The song is good, and I personally love it, not because a famous person is singing it, but instead because the person singing it turned a good song into a great one!
I'm not talking about sales, I just mean the charts period. Last year was sort of stale for me, so this is nice.

Can we all just agree that Blank Space and Uptown Funk are both massive hits?

Well, Top 20 for the chart date could look like this:
1. Uptown Funk (30-40% lead) 2. Thinking Out Loud 3. Blank Space 4. Take Me To Church 5. Lips Are Moving 6. I'm Not The Only One 7,8,9,10,11: Jealous/Sugar/AATB/SIO/LMH (Not certain) 12. Centuries 13. Animals 14. I Don't Fuck With You 15. The Hanging Tree 16. The Heart Wants What It Wants 17. Only 18. I Don't Mind 19. Tuesday 20. No Type
Sad that Love Me Harder is done, funny that even though The Hanging Tree is gaining in spins, but it lose 0,6m audience, I wonder why.

New Maroon 5, Kelly Clarkson Singles Headed for Debuts on Hot 100The band's 'Sugar' should sweeten the chart in the top 25, while Clarkson's 'Heartbeat Song' is also set to thump its way in. Maroon 5 and Kelly Clarkson should storm next week's Billboard Hot 100 with newly-released singles. The Adam Levine-led group looks likely to start in the top 25 with "Sugar," while Clarkson will also bow with "Heartbeat Song."
Let's look at key numbers driving the start of each song. (All of next week's charts will update on Billboard.com on Thursday, Jan. 22.) "Sugar" The synthy song is the third single from the band's album V, which has sold 620,000 copies in the U.S. since its September release, according to Nielsen Music. Thanks to the Jan. 14 premiere of its buzzy official video, "Sugar" is on pace for a lofty launch in both streaming and sales. 16M The clip has drawn 16 million global YouTube views since its posting, likely making for a high debut on next week's Streaming Songs chart (which measures U.S. clicks). In the video, the band goes on a wedding-crashing spree, as Levine announces at the start, "It's Dec. 6, 2014. We're going to drive across L.A. and hit every wedding we possibly can. It's going to be awesome." (As Maroon 5 makes its rounds, wedding guests clearly agree.) 1 The video helped "Sugar" soar to No. 1 on the real-time Billboard + Twitter Trending 140 (Jan. 16) … ahead of the No. 1 song on the Hot 100, Mark Ronson's "Uptown Funk!," featuring Bruno Mars. 150K The clip is also pushing sales, with industry prognosticators predicting that "Sugar" will sell more than 150,000 downloads in the week ending Jan. 18. Radio airplay is kicking in, too, with the song set to debut on Pop Songs and Adult Pop Songs next week. "Heartbeat Song" After arriving at radio and retail on Jan. 12, the pure-pop track, infused with rock guitars and a hint of trap, should likewise climb aboard next week's Hot 100. The song is the first single from Clarkson's new album Piece by Piece, due in March. 5K Following two pre-release teaser Tweets from Clarkson about "Heartbeat Song," one adorably starring her six-month-old daughter, River Rose, on Jan. 8 and 9 (resulting in 5,000 retweets), the track bounded to No. 4 on the Trending 140. It jumped to No. 1 on Jan. 12 after the song's official release. (Unlike with "Sugar," Clarkson has not yet released a proper video for her new single, only an official audio clip, above). 60K Industry forecasters project that "Heartbeat Song" could sell around 60,000 downloads in the week ending Jan. 18. ("Catch My Breath," the lead single from her last [non-seasonal] album, 2012's Greatest Hits, sold 87,000 in its first week. It debuted on the Hot 100 at No. 54 and eventually peaked at No. 19.) 377K "Heartbeat Song" received hourly plays on participating iHeartMedia-owned adult pop stations on Jan. 12, translating to 377,000 in first-day format audience. The support could help spur the track to a top 20 debut on Adult Pop Songs, while it should also enter Pop Songs next week. Additional reporting by William Gruger

Forget Blank Space and Uptown Funk. I'm rooting for Take Me To Church...which will never get the #1 it deserves I was thinking the same thing. That's a song I was disappointed did not reach no. 1 although I also love the other two songs as well.

Take Me To Church has to be the biggest surprise hit in a while. I first heard it over the summer and loved it but said no way it makes the top 100. I always suck at predicting tho.

Here's a case where streaming and sales are an indication of the songs popularity and, unlike, other streaming 'hits' that smashed the charts, anything less than Top 10 is a misnomer. I just think Top 25 is way too low. If Sia hit Top 20 with far less sales and airplay, how could Sugar not exceed that chart placement? (It's not like the said Top 20, which gives a lot more leeway - Top 25 indicates they project between 21-25.)

Anyone know of the video of the cop singing Shake It Off on his dash cam while driving around? It's pretty funny
Wonder how viral it's gone and what impact it'll have on the charts if any.

Anyone know of the video of the cop singing Shake It Off on his dash cam while driving around? It's pretty funny Wonder how viral it's gone and what impact it'll have on the charts if any. It seems to have a s**t ton of versions on YouTube, so it's hard to track its specific views, but it looks like it's only received around 100,000 views so far since the video first seemed to surface about 12 hours ago. So, if it continues to grow in popularity, that could be around 2 million extra streams in a week for SIO. Not an insanely large amount, but a small enough boost. Edit: That is, if it is counting.

Love or hate GS, you have to admit it clearly was the most popular song in the country for at least a few of those 7 weeks that it was #2; if only they implemented the current methodology sooner like along with the addition of on-demand streaming in March 2012...I'm more upset about Payphone though because I actually loved OMN, BL and LTWYL when they were respectively #1 whereas CMM had kinda burned out on me by the summer (since here in Canada it was popular much earlier lol). Smack That and Bad Romance also deserved #1 in my opinion (although back then I didn't want BR to be #1 because for some reason I didn't like it lol). a tribute to our fallen brothers and sisters in the #2-zone :(

Some #2s "deserved" to be #1, yes. (Like GS)
But not all, some of those are just opinions and in fact deserved the #2 peak. Sad to say... :(

Sad to say... :( Yeah that's what I mean, it is a disappointment to myself and other people for many of those songs to have peaked at #2 but it was fair treatment. The only one being GS that was by far the more popular song during some of those weeks and it's just the fact that today's chart methodology wasn't put in place earlier that GS didn't get to #1 so of all of those I would say that GS is the one that was unfairly robbed of the #1. As for the others, it is very unfortunate that Counting Stars and Payphone weren't able to make it to #1 and I really wish they had but I admit that it was just the way it was with the timing of the songs and it was disappointing but fair.

Some #2s "deserved" to be #1, yes. (Like GS) But not all, some of those are just opinions and in fact deserved the #2 peak. Sad to say... :( I think we'd better ask Rocky about which song deserves #1 lol

Sad to say... :( I think we'd better ask Rocky about which song deserves #1 lol He'll just blindly agree with everything Billboard does -__- a song could get #1 with 5k downloads, 1M AI and 10 million streams for a viral video which features 3 seconds of the song and he will say it was legitimate. Not about to argue with him over it again.

Not about to argue with him over it again. *sigh* A song reaching #1 on Billboard is a legit #1. The real question here is: When will you realize, that Billboard is a business magazine? You may and can be disappointed if your personal favorite song misses #1 due to bad timing or a rule change, but can do nothing about it. Unless you buy the company, but what's the point of that? If you spent a tiny fragment of your time looking up some older posts of mine regarding the current formula instead of spending it beating a dead horse you would know that I'm not fond of "streaming hits". I'm assuming you are a reasonable person, but your premise is outright wrong. Thinking that a number-one hit is a legitimate number-one hit - whatever that means - doesn't imply that you 'agree with everything Billboard does'. You can use all the cynical emoticons in the world, but it won't make delusion right. By the way your poor excuse of an example is impossible in the current sales and radio trends. Get educated and get on to me before trashing me. Nice try, Jan.

This passive/agressiveness is so fun to watch....
Btw, Jealous is #1 in Pop now. Nice to see it got it's shot at #1 before Uptown Funk start to rule (If it's going like it currently does, UF will be #1 in Pop in 4-5 days)
At this rate, Thinking Out Loud might end up joining the "#2 peak that deserve to be #1" club, or become stable enough to become All of Me 2015.
