Watching this song is fun and frustrating at the same time. One the one hand the song is hanging in there and doing enough to keep Adam on the radio while continuing forward motion (today at least lol) but on the other hand its motion is so dang slow which prevents the release of another single because no one would give up on a song that is still gaining spins and ai.
This song either needs to s**t or get off the pot IMO.

LOL me too. I want Ghost Town to smash and I think it still can, just wish it would hurry up and make a big move.

Whoa this just shot up to #1 on iTunes in Australia. It's been out there about the same amount of time it's been out here and it was hanging in the low teens. What caused that jump??

You're a few days late. He was in Australia doing promo and performed on the VoiceAU. That's when the song, album & Video all went to #1. He just did a radio concert in Auckland, NZ last night so they are climbing there too. Big difference is GT has not been getting play on radio in NZ so it hasn't been charting although the album has been in the top 40 on their sales charts.

Ahh okay I was just scanning the worldwide itunes chart today and noticed it. I wonder if it will actually hold long enough to boot that bullshit Lost Frequencies song out of the top spot.

This run is reminding me soooo much of Chandelier's CHR run right now. Hopefully it ends the same way as that, with at least a week in the top 10.

Ahh okay I was just scanning the worldwide itunes chart today and noticed it. I wonder if it will actually hold long enough to boot that bulls**t Lost Frequencies song out of the top spot. As I've said, I have no idea if the Aussie charts are sales only or incorporate other factors but def. looks like (at least this week) it's between GT and 1D. 1D I believe had a *massive lead for at least 2 days of the tracking week (and over the weekend) so even though it was only 2 days, if it was front-loaded enough, may be enough. Granted, GT took over #1 on iTunes I think on Sunday and stayed there since but only by about 20% all week. If #1 is determined mainly by iTunes could be very, very close come tomorrow. If there are other factors besides iTunes may be harder to determine. While Australia is a big market obviously and would be nice for bragging right to have a #1 song there for a week, the song and album in most major markets just isn't doing much. Ultimately, that's what the the label looks at. If his 2nd single goes nowhere, won't be good. Problem w/ GT in the US is the song just floating and holding up any other single from being released. Not totally sure but even w/ the moderate success of GT, I don't think the album is doing well. Not sure where it is this week on the albums chart. I just remember the 70%+ second week decline.

I think the label looks at overall performance of both the single and the album and both are doing comparatively well IMO.
I agree that GT is just floating right now in the U.S. market and that is blocking another single from being released but as long as the song is gaining, however slowly, it would be kind of silly to pull the plug on it.
The album is at #98 this week, up 2 spots from 100 last week so it's holding its own for sure even if it's not lighting the chart on fire. 70% drop is pretty standard in the second week.

When do their charts come out? I'm thinking tomorrow. I almost forgot that it's like 6:40 am Friday now in Sydney while in the States it's still Thurs 4:40ish EST. Almost forgot the major time difference lol. That means when GT hit #1 in Australia it was at the end of their Sunday so that means 1D had all of Fri-most of Sunday. Basically 3 full days as some others said while GT had around 4. But GT had around just a 20% lead most of those 4 days so this one may be really, really close.

One Direction released on a Friday, but it was already midday in Australia, I think. So they had a part of Friday, Saturday and most of Sunday.

He must be really popular in Australia. I just saw where they added two more shows to his OZ tour. It started out with 3 dates on Monday and 2 more got added today. I have to say, I'm impressed. Who knew?

Who knew? He did really well there his debut era - both WWFM and IIHY were top 5 hits and platinum plus sales. He took his tour there as well and they had to add dates and in some cases moved to bigger venues. Then they squandered all that good will his sophomore era. Nice to see him bounce back there. Ghost Town may wind up being his best performing single there to date..who knows.

Who knew? I'm not surprised they added more dates. I also won't be surprised if they add more dates to his New Zealand tour. We should be hearing an announcement on his Asian tour very soon. Adam is still holding on to #1 iTunes and 1D is sitting at #3. I hope he gets that #1 in OZ. 1D can dominated the rest of the world. lol

Isn't the rule of thumb that it takes more than 1 hit song before you start to see album sales. The consensus is it takes at least 3 hit singles before the public is ready to spend money on an album. Adam isn't one of the top tier artists or a newbie with major buzz so slow and steady works for me. The album is still in top 100BB and the label is still working on the single. Adam said he has a lot of radio promo commitments for the rest of the year back in the US. Most likely there will be some Jingle Balls and more iHeart one offs which leads to radio playing those scheduled to play artists.

I don't remember that they did much to market the 'Trespassing' era here. I guess with the relative failure to launch in the US they just didn't bother? At any rate 'Ghost Town' is still #1 here, but 1D is down to #3. IDK what that would mean for Adam's prospects this week. He's off to a good start for the new sales week, we'll find out tomorrow night AUS time if he made it this week, but if he stays at #1 all week now then he's pretty much guaranteed to get there next week if not now.

One smash hit that has widespread appeal to many demos is an unestablished artist's best bet to sell albums. Then you have artists who have smashes left and right but struggle to go multi platinum. Teenage Dream yielded smash after smash, but Sam Smith's In the Lonely Hour might outsell it on the strength of Stay With Me alone.

I don't think that's completely accurate.
