Congrats to Taylor on her fourth #1. Shocked that "Nasty Freestyle" and "Sugar" held on to the top ten.

Taylor Swift's 'Bad Blood' Blasts to No. 1 on Hot 100 Swift scores her fourth No. 1, narrowly dethroning Wiz Khalifa's "See You Again." Plus, David Guetta's "Hey Mama" hits the top 10. Taylor Swift soars to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with "Bad Blood," featuring Kendrick Lamar, following a full week of tracking after the song's video premiere to kick off the Billboard Music Awards, which aired May 17 on ABC. Winning an extremely tight race, "Blood" displaces Wiz Khalifa's Furious 7 soundtrack hit "See You Again," featuring Charlie Puth, after six weeks on top.Plus, David Guetta reaches the top 10 with "Hey Mama," featuring Nicki Minaj, Bebe Rexha and Afrojack.
As we do each Wednesday, let's run down the all the news, good and "Bad," in the top 10 and more on the sales/airplay/streaming-based Hot 100 (dated June 6). "Blood," released on Big Machine Records and promoted to radio by Republic Records, surges from No. 53 to No. 1 on the Hot 100 following a week of tracking after Swift premiered its celebrity-studded clip to open the BBMAs. The song rockets 26-1 on Digital Songs with 385,000 downloads sold (up 721 percent) in the week ending May 24, according to Nielsen Music. It also vaults onto the Streaming Songs chart at No. 3 with 18.1 million U.S. streams, with 99 percent of its streaming activity from Vevo on YouTube clicks of its official video. On Radio Songs, "Blood" bounds 46-15 with a 109 percent increase to 57 million all-format audience impressions. The track sweeps the Hot 100's three top gainer awards, for digital sales, streaming and airplay, marking the first song to so triple up since Mark Ronson's "Uptown Funk!," featuring Bruno Mars, earned all three honors on the Jan. 3 chart. In honor of Swift's new Hot 100 leader, here are 13 (her favorite number) fun facts about the song's coronation:1. "Blood" is the 1,043rd No. 1 in the Hot 100's history. The chart launched on Aug. 4, 1958. 2. More pertinent to Swift (and fans), it's her fourth Hot 100 No. 1, following "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" (three weeks at No. 1, 2012), "Shake It Off" (four, 2014) and "Blank Space" (seven, 2014-15). 3. As "Blood" follows "Shake" and "Space" as the third No. 1 from Swift's blockbuster album 1989, the set is the first to yield three Hot 100 toppers since Adele's 21 in 2011-12: "Rolling in the Deep," "Someone Like You" and "Set Fire to the Rain." (The album version of "Blood" features only Swift, not Lamar, who was added for the single version.) 4. Lamar lands his first Hot 100 No. 1 and second top 10. He'd previously reached No. 8 in 2013 as featured on A$AP Rocky's "F**kin Problems" (also featuring Drake and 2 Chainz). 5. Swift not only tallies her fourth Hot 100 No. 1, but also her 18th top 10. It's her fourth from 1989; in addition to the No. 1s "Shake" and "Space," third single "Style" peaked at No. 6. 6. Swift scores her 10th Digital Songs No. 1. She ties Katy Perry for the second-most leaders on the list. Rihanna leads with 12. Speaking of Perry… 7. … as she's rumored to be the subject of "Bad Blood," perhaps she's the subject of the Hot 100's new top song. Swift's explanation of the lyrical theme (to which Perry may have indirectly responded on Twitter): "For years, I was never sure if we were friends or not," she told Rolling Stone about an unnamed female celebrity. "She would come up to me at awards shows and say something and walk away, and I would think, 'Are we friends, or did she just give me the harshest insult of my life? [Then last year] she did something so horrible. I was like, 'Oh, we're just straight-up enemies.' And it wasn't even about a guy! ... So now I have to avoid her. It's awkward, and I don't like it." 8. The 53-1 jump for "Blood" on the Hot 100 is the greatest to the top since Swift's "Together" hurtled 72-1 in 2012, following its first week of sales (after the song had first charted from early airplay). The record leap to the summit: Kelly Clarkson vaulted 97-1 with "My Life Would Suck Without You" (Feb. 7, 2009). 9. As previously reported, "Blood" blasts onto the Pop Songs chart at No. 13. Only two titles have launched higher in the airplay ranking's 21-year history: Mariah Carey's "Dreamlover" (1993) and Swift's own "Shake," both at No. 12. 10. Also as previously reported, "Blood" broke Vevo's 24-hour worldwide viewing record, with 20.1 million global views in its first day of release. 11. "Bad" news is sometimes good, as Swift's new Hot 100 No. 1 is the 11th song to top the list with the word "bad" in its title. It's the first since Daniel Powter's "Bad Day" in 2006. The first? Jimmy Dean's "Big Bad John" in 1961. Swift's new topper is also the second No. 1 "Bad Blood": Neil Sedaka's different song of the same name reigned in 1975. 12. With her Hot 100 victory, Swift has new fodder for on-stage: The U.S. leg of her 1989 World Tour kicked off last Wednesday (May 20) in Bossier City, La. 13. The race for Billboard's top song of the summer of 2015 just got much more interesting. With "Blood" advancing to No. 1 just before the seasonal tracking period and the return of the annual Songs of the Summer chart, the song will compete from a strong starting spot. We'll find out the winner just after Labor Day. As Swift takes over atop the Hot 100, "Again" (1-2), which Khalifa and Puth performed on the BBMAs, tallies its seventh week at No. 1 on both Streaming Songs (22.7 million U.S. streams, down 1 percent) and the subscription services-based On-Demand Songs chart (6.7 million, down 4 percent). And, a strong consolation prize in light of the track's departure from the Hot 100's top perch: "Again" takes over as the new No. 1 on the Radio Songs chart, where it lifts 2-1, up 5 percent to 155 million in all-format audience. On Digital Songs, "Again" dips 1-2 after seven weeks at the apex, with 211,000 downloads sold. "Again" concurrently leads Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Rap Songs charts for a seventh week each. Fetty Wap's "Trap Queen" drops to No. 3 on the Hot 100 from its No. 2 high; Walk the Moon's "Shut Up and Dance" holds at its No. 4 Hot 100 peak (and crowns Hot Rock Songs for a ninth week); The Weeknd's "Earned It (Fifty Shades of Grey)" falls from No. 3, its best rank, to No. 5; former 14-week Hot 100 No. 1 "Uptown Funk!" descends 5-6; and Jason Derulo's "Want to Want Me" retreats from its No. 6 high point to No. 7.
Guetta scores his sixth Hot 100 top 10, as "Hey Mama" rises 11-8 (and leads Hot Dance/Electronic Songs for a sixth week). He'd last reached the top 10 in summer 2012 with the No. 7-peaking "Titanium," featuring Sia. "Mama" is his second top 10 featuring Minaj: "Turn Me On" hit No. 4 earlier in 2012. "Mama" is Minaj's 12th Hot 100 top 10 overall, extending her record among female rappers; Missy Elliott ranks second with nine. Rexha posts her first top 10 and Afrojack his second, following his featured turn (with Ne-Yo and Nayer) on Pitbull's 2011 No. 1 "Give Me Everything." After Guetta and Minaj performed "Mama" on the BBMAs, and following the release of its official video (May 19), the song sports a 13 percent gain to 112,000 downloads sold, although it slips 5-7 on Digital Songs; hits the Radio Songs top 10 (12-9; 74 million, up 13 percent); and bounds 24-11 on Streaming Songs (7 million, up 50 percent). Rounding out the Hot 100's top 10, Maroon 5's No. 2-peaking "Sugar" drops 7-9 (while its new single, "This Summer's Gonna Hurt…," charges 67-31) and T-Wayne's "Nasty Freestyle" drops from its No. 9 peak to No. 10.In highlights just below the Hot 100's top tier, Meghan Trainor's "Dear Future Husband" rises 17-14 (while passing 1 million downloads sold to-date); Fifth Harmony's "Worth It," featuring Kid Ink, pushes 19-17; and Skrillex and Diplo's "Where Are U Now," featuring Justin Bieber, reaches the top 20 (22-20). More details on noteworthy news beneath the top 10 in the weekly "Hot 100 Chart Moves" column to post on Friday (May 29).

So Cheerleader is definitely shaping up like Shazam said. And looks like fifth harmony is finally having that breakthrough hit. And Uptown may or may not be 7 weeks from breaking the record for most weeks in the top 10. And somehow Honey Im good hasnt entered the top 10 yet :(.

I wonder why they didn't mention a margin of winning aside from "close". Well, I guess we have a confirmed formula, so let's juice it up:
Bad Blood: 385000/12 + 18100000/900 + 57000000/10000 = 57894
See You Again: 211000/12 + 22700000/900 + 155000000/10000 = 58305
...well, either our "confirmed" formula is off or the significant figures on streaming and radio are to blame for this oddity. Hopefully it's the latter because I'm pretty sure Daniel Collins is going to have conniptions upon finishing his exams to get back to predictions.

The estimated Billboard formula is going to have to be revised - again - because the current estimate literally doesn't add up. Let's run the metrics: Bad Blood: 385K in sales, 57M in airplay, 18.1M in streams See You Again: 211K in sales, 155M in airplay, 22.7M in streams sales/12, airplay/10000, streams/900 BB: 32083 + 5700 + 20111 = 57894 SYA: 17583 + 15500 + 25222 = 58305 See the problem? :)

LOL. Enjoy it while it lasts - I would not be surprised to see SYA right back on top next week. If it was really this close, any combined sales + streaming drop will prove too costly for airplay to make up.

Bebe Rexha gets the credit for Hey Mama, brilliant! Didn't know she was on the song? Because she was wrongfully never credited before. Thankfully David Guetta is not Avicii.

Yes and no. It did blast into the top 10 rapidly and then (relatively) quickly feel from the top to the bottom of the top 10. But it spent 24 weeks in the top 10 (11 weeks after peaking at #1), can't really say it died quickly. I meant when it was dying, it was quick (e.g. Chandelier fell slowly, around half its run, while The Hanging Tree and The Heart Wants What It Wants both collapsed) If radio could pick up a bit more pace and sales hold, I wonder if Worth It has a chance of top 10 next week. I think sales will hold, but how is it doing on streaming?

I'm not sure if sales/10 has been tried in conjunction with airplay/10000 and streams/900. (Are there earlier #1s that would prove this wrong?) Under that estimation... BB: 38500 + 5700 + 20111 = 64311 SYA: 21100 + 15500 + 25222 = 61822 ETA: Even sales/11 would work; BB would come out to just over 60K total points, while SYA is just under.

If it was really this close, any combined sales + streaming drop will prove too costly for airplay to make up. Actually BB may have even pulled a bit farther ahead of SYA in sales these past few days so there really isn't much of a sales drop there. Sure it's gonna drop a bit in streaming (but unless human logic continues to be defied then SYA will as well), and obviously BB is catching up like hell in airplay (and SYA may be close to peaking there too, mind you). Unless a sales plunge for BB and/or surge for SYA suddenly happens, I think BB will likely remain at #1 unless it was REALLY that close, like, 1 or 2 percent lead for BB this week.

So I just saw the updated sales predictions for BB and SYA and it looks like I may have been wrong about BB staying at #1 next week :/ I seriously don't get the logic behind BB dropping enough in second big week for précis song to return to #1 but SYA not doing it...why and how do these two scenarios end up being different? Ok never mind there's no point in talking about it now since SYA hasn't returned to #1 yet. I'm glad BB at least has one week and hopefully more to come.

While BB does have a significant lead in sales/youtube streams, SYA still has over 100M more audience impressions on radio and has garnered 350M youtube views in less than 2 months, so I don't think it's anywhere near done streaming wise. Will have to see what BB can sell next week because I don't think streams alone will be enough.

Yeah...she won't fall too far, but SYA is still so strong that if she's firing at anything less than on all cylinders, she loses. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yep, unlike UF which was vulnerable for weeks and starting decline (even minimally) on radio, SYA is still gaining and although the gains have been less, I wouldnt be surprised if it starts getting 2-3+ million updates again out of nowhere. I'm def. over the song and wish something hotter was #1 but don't think BB is 'that' good of a song to be a major threat or song of the summer. Happy for Taylor she got at least one week at #1. Very good chance she'll get more but I think the sales and hype are more front loaded than the quality of the song. So far theres a LOT weak/crappy songs which leaves the door WIDE open for a song like Cheerleader :/ lol. I wish we had at least one or two flawless summer jams out there brewing like we did 2 summers ago (when there were at least 3 or 4)! :/.

Eh, I don't see "See You Again" lasting too much longer as far as gaining on radio. It's maxing out on pop already, is about a week or so from doing the same on rhythmic, and it's not exactly burning up the urban format (only #22 with a small bullet). The only format where it's still gaining really well on is hot AC. AC will likely follow soon, but by then it'll be falling on pop and rhythmic.
It's the streaming that could be a problem. Its streaming numbers are monstrous, and "Bad Blood" won't have Spotify.

SYA is gettint 70M weekly on Youtube. That's the same amount for BB's first week Add to it, the Spotify numbers, it's a streaming monster Not 70M. It's much less now. Maybe 40M-45M or so. Its YouTube numbers have seemed to slow down a bit (about 7M per day as opposed to 12M or so per day a few weeks ago). It is decreasing on Spotify as well, as Trap Queen has now passed it for #1 on Spotify. I'm unsure about the evident mystical force that's keeping its streaming numbers afloat like that though. SYA has definitely peaked overall though, and it would be foolish at this point to say that there's any chance for it to break the record for the most weeks at #1 (the only chance would be a scenario like Cruise where a re-release causes it to surge into massive popularity once more and not just briefly). SYA will probably very soon peak in airplay as well. It's only down from here SIDE NOTE: I'm surprised the article didn't mention UF's achievement-setting 26th consecutive week in the top 10...

Confused. Edit: If sales are divided by 10, then THAT makes sense. Good for Taylor and Kendrick.

Confused. The only logical solution is that sales must actually have more weighting than what's depicted in our formula. It's the only one of the three components where BB was ahead so it must be the one that pulled it ahead in terms of overall Hot 100 points.
