Is anyone else surprised Blake Shelton hasn't said a word about all this? Not only because he's married to Miranda, but he also tends to put quite a bit of support behind new female acts (at least, the ones coming off The Voice). Plus, it's not like he's one to shy away from controversy. Edit: Also, the video of Martina's interview this morning is up here: www.cbsnews.com/videos/martina-mcbride-on-radio-execs-suggestion-to-limit-female-songs/

I'm not surprised Blake hasn't spoken up - he doesn't need to since Miranda has had her say. I don't feel it's a negative that people aren't coming out of the woodwork about this. Many of them will be asked in interviews and will speak to it then. Adding more voice at this time doesn't really do much.
I'm very happy that Martina posted again on her FaceBook page. It was frustrating to see a few places that made it sound like the controversy was about women being upset about tomato comment. She has expressed her thoughts so beautifully.

Blake wouldn't be just another voice, though, he'd be the first mainstream male act to really say something. Brad joked about the subject in one tweet I believe but didn't really offer an opinion on the matter. Brothers Osborne tweeted about it, but I wouldn't consider them to be huge stars. I just think it's interesting that none of the superstar men have said anything, even with all these superstar women speaking up. Unless I've missed something? I do think it has the potential to be addressed at the CMT Awards, though, so we will see how that is handled if it is.

I only noticed this because he tweeted Pulse after I'd tweeted out a link to this thread last week, haha, but he guested on a podcast to explain more: https%3A//soundcloud.com/radio-stuff-podcast/keith-hill-country-radio-consultant

I know raylatch98 linked to an article with it in it, but here's Sara Evans' new Facebook post from today:

I know she won't say anything, at least until the CMAs, but I'd love to hear what Carrie has to say.
I think now would be a wonderful time for a multi-female collaboration on country radio. Get Carrie, Miranda, Kacey, and some of the older women on a song... How epic would that be? Even better if it addressed the topic at hand.

Even better if it addressed the topic at hand. It'd be cool if they could bring Terri Clark's "Nashville Girls" out of the unreleased vault. I'm still bummed that was never a single. :(

Considering Kacey Musgraves' new album has a song called "Good Ol' Boys Club" on it, which is about exactly what you'd expect it to be about, it wouldn't shock me if she made a music video for it and scouted out as many female country music singers as she could to make a statement. It's not like she's shy from throwing a punch!

Sabre14 did you even make it through. Yes. It is a good thing to hear the opposing side of an argument, no matter how much you don't like it. I just can't stand self-gloss. It's an automatic turn off to hear someone tell you who they've worked for and how long they've worked for, just to help prove how right they are. As much as I've criticized him, I'm sure he's been a good in radio in terms of making a profit, but again, it's the fact that radio has been going after a certain type of listener. Plenty of people love women on the radio, but the way country radio has been going, they are shifting to something that doesn't evict a balanced mix of women, or ballads, or uniqueness, or clever lyrics, or tasteful production, or compelling music. Country radio, to me, is digging their own graves and what the landscape will look like 10-15 years from now is something I don't look forward to myself.

Edit: even better if the women who sign on to the project get to record parts of the song.

Nice article from 'Taste of Country' discussing the issue: tasteofcountry.com/saladgate-women-on-country-radio/Brings up a point I tried to make a few pages back discussing how if male country artists are all you hear, and you like country music, you will likely "prefer" male country singers; because it's what you know. Therefore making any surveys and polls conducted by programmers inherently biased... If you are taking a survey asking "which do you prefer, Coca Cola or Pepsi?", and you've only ever had Coca Cola products, you will obviously vote for what you know, Coca Cola... it's statistics 101. What I would like to know is how these surveys/polls are done; the sample sizes, the geographic and demographic parameters, how often they're done, and how the questions are asked... are there even any questions? Anyone have any documentation on this kind of stuff?

Not sure if this has been pointed out or not, but counting Grace Potter, Catherine Dunn, Karen, and Kimberly, there are 6 women in the 10 top this week. A sign of things to come? #bracountry

A sign of things to come? #bracountry The females on Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw's songs barely count. The only reason they're in there is because they've landed on a male country superstar's single, and neither of them have much of a presence on the single. "Girl Crush" counts because it is a female-led single, even if there are two men in the band as well. I'd say having two solo female singles in the Top 10 though is a nice change, though I'm sure that's just lucky timing, but it will be nice if both Carrie and Kelsea can walk away with #1 hits, and it'd be even more impressive if they were back-to-back. Country radio just might implode. :o

From the midweek update-K.T. Oslin's take:
And they don’t need more tomatoes in the salad. They do. They do need more tomatoes. Women have some good music in them. Let’s don’t forget: Lettuce doesn’t have a lot of flavor, and it has very little nutritional value. So what are we ranting and raving about the lettuce for? Pretty weak stuff coming from the guys. I’m sick of hearing songs about their T-shirts and the mud on their trucks. Enough! Enough already! Give me something else. (Laughs.)

You're reading my mind :) Seriously, I would die to see the 15 minute Nielsen (Arbitron) reports and whether there occurred a sensible listener's hemorrhage.
