I think Taylor will be #1 this week, then OMI takeover. I was thinking the same thing. I can definitely see Bad Blood reclaiming #1 and it's just a matter of time before Cheerleader takes over

^^Exactly this. As much as we love to the follow the charts, it's not meant to be created as a service to fans. Billboard has always been a magazine to capture the current state of the entertainment industry (not just music as it used to track movie sales, etc.), and is meant to be just a reporting mechanism. There is no chance there's opinion that goes into the charts themselves. Billboard wants the industry to know what the current trends are, and likewise the industry wants to know what's popular. I'd argue that the component charts are for the industry, but, really what value does the industry place in H100? It's a mish-mash of compoenent and a variable scale. The industry wants to know: How many radio plays/audience (got that chart), sales (got that one too), streaming (yup). The H100 changed the way the general public perceives and measures popularity. Again, there is no conspiracy or manipulation, it's just been interesting to watch the chart since I was a teen and the exceptions, special rules, etc keep coming up. It's never 'just this.' Back in the day, I always though MTV play should count as part of the radio component because that was far more influencial and an indicator of potential sales, but I suppose "the industry' didn't want that.... :)

I think Taylor will be #1 this week, then OMI takeover. Please be right I hope it doesn't; not because i dislike Taylor or the song itself, I would just like to see a single-week number one again. We haven't had one since Bruno Mars' "When I Was Your Man" over two years ago! And we know "Cheerleader" isn't letting go after a single week...

Albums have evolved the same way as the singles. Albums also have multiple components. Does the industry find that useful? There must have been a reason why streaming was added? If the priority of the Hot 100 were to appease the fans, there would still be countdown shows based off of it. (As we know, long since gone) It is about the industry, they have been quoted time and again as saying that the fact that there is fan interest is an added bonus but it never guides their decisions about what rules to add and subtract.

While the charts might not be meant for the fans, I would say they absolutely end up influencing the public's conception of what is the most popular. Billboard positions, especially number ones, are frequently reported by media outlets to the mass public, so it really ends up being the definitive list of popular music. Since the Billboard charts don't give specific airplay, sales, or streaming numbers, it doesn't really tell the industry much other than providing a rank order, which they already know from the specific sales and airplay numbers they get from Nielsen, Mediabase, etc. The only unique thing Billboard would tell them is the hybrid charts, but as frequently pointed out, they don't always paint the most accurate, comprehensive picture.

I don't think a lot of people pay attention to Billboard actually. Obviously everyone on this site does, and bigger than normal music fans might. but most of my friends think it's hilarious how much I follow the charts, and would never think about it other than me telling them chart news. It's mainly for industry insiders...award shows...us...etc.

It's so weird seeing the "1 year ago" chart being more washed up than a decade or two ago.

Average Joe can understand "XYZ is the #1 song in the country this week". He could care less what the #1 song on the Latin Urban recurrent airplay chart was. The Hot 100 is more a marketing tool for labels, while the component charts are much more about showing industry trends. And it's important to remember that "the industry" is more than just record labels. It's record stores (what's left of them anyway), concert venues, radio stations, night clubs. They all need to know the state of the industry at various levels.

Fight Song, Can't Feel My Face, and Lean On will definitely make it in the Top 10 this week or next week. Also Selena and Demi's new singles could possibly debut in the Top 10.
Also, who do you think will be #1 this week? See You Again, Bad Blood, or Cheerleader?

I feel like this and next week are going to see some serious changes to the top 10 I'd lean towards next week. This week, I see Worth It Earned It dropping out, probably in favor of Can't Feel My Face or Fight Song. Next week, it's conceivable that Uptown Funk, Want to Want Me, and either/both? Hey Mama or Honey I'm Good could fall out. And probably Shut Up and Dance could start descending as well. And considering that's the week Cheerleader takes over, See You Again should fall as well. Bad Blood might stay at 2 or it could drop as well. You got me convinced, Kris. This chart malaise is soon to be at an end! EDIT: Fixed. Although my confusion between the Weeknd tune and the Fifth Harmony tune is confusing me.

Do you mean Earned It? Anyway, CFMF and Watch Me will go top 10 this week. Fight Song wil be top 10 next week. Selena will debut between #11 and #15. Lean On, Worth It, and Where Are U Now will have to wait for now.

I got those two songs confused for some strange reason. I'll agree that Can't Feel My Face will replace it in the top 10, although I don't see the momentum that Watch Me had two weeks ago. Maybe it gets in, but I have my doubts. Next week, I'd lean toward Fight Song getting in for sure. Those last one to three spots are going to be tricky, though between Lean On, Worth It, Where Are U Now, and perhaps even Selena Gomez's song. Speaking of which, I was thinking that Selena Gomez and A$AP Rocky would debut in the top 30. But thanks to better than expected sales, it's likely that it's in the top 20, maybe as high as anywhere from 11-15. If it survives day 8, it might crack the top 10 as soon as next week.

The fact that Carly got that #1 right away with his help yet he still hasn't gotten one Too funny I don't think he has ever lost any sleep over that. Nor should he. Some times charts only tell a small part of the big picture. Baby was #44 on 2010's year end chart, but I guess most people would say that was the biggest song of the year, so...
