She's a more CHR-friendly version of Lana with Imagine Dragons' arena-sized choruses and I am here for it.

This is absolutely horrid, in my opinion. I can't find anything to like about it, and the lyrics are really stupid. Unfortunately, it will probably be a smash.

My initial reaction to this mirrored that of Zane Lowe (OMG, She's a new icon, this is massive, etc). It's just so unbelievably good and just clicks on so many levels.
The lyrics are so sharp and grabbing (they do feel a little "old" for her - but I'm older than she is, so it works out). It's sonically stunning. And that Juicy interpolation nearly gave me "goosies," as J-Lo would say.
She's already huge, and she's going to keep blowing up regardless, but I'd really like to see radio catch up with music fans on this girl.

I don't really care for this at the moment. However, I can see this getting stuck in my head at some point.

Lyrics are absolute crap and have no direction, vocals are bland and the beat is boring. No thank you.

This has some of the worst and most forced lyrics I've heard in quite awhile. But I could see it being a hit.

The lyrics of the second verse are cringeworthy and don't fit the rest of the song

Much better fit for CHR than Alt.
It's still shit though. I think everything that needs to be said about the lyrics has already been said in the Alt thread.

She's huge with tween/teen girls on the internet, particularly in the Tumblr/Twitter space. 500k Twitter followers, 600k instagram followers. Entire fall tour sold out in minutes. The album pre-order went top 5 on iTunes within a couple hours of release. Definitely one of those phenomenons that's under the radar for almost everyone outside the main demo.

Definitely one of those phenomenons that's under the radar for almost everyone outside the main demo. Absolutely. The following is *incredibly* passionate -- if not obsessed. Beyond the stats Adam brought up, consider that her social engagement is almost at Fifth Harmony levels -- and leagues ahead of those for young-skewing solo female acts like Lorde and Tori Kelly. She's also starting to get press in a major way -- she's already scored features from the New York Times and The Fader this month. Last month, Hits put her album in the same commercial conversation as The Weeknd's sure-to-be-massive Beauty Behind the Madness. hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=296819

This sounds exactly like something that Tumblr girls would be drooling over.

She also got a spot at Lollapalooze this year somehow. Her social presence (which, as mentioned, is INSANE) and label push absolutely were the main factors there.

Umm, at first listen it's like a bad Lana del Rey song. Of course i thought All about that bass was like a bad Mercy version and everybody knows what happened

Still moving pretty well at alternative (it's caught in a tough spot on the chart, but it's up a healthy 18% in spins so far this week), but this has been removed from FMQB's pop section.

The only song of hers that I can get behind is Hold Me Down which is an absolute jam. I wish that was being pushed instead.

I like this girl but this song specifically is a rip-off of several Lana Del Rey songs, mainly National Anthem's chorus. Can't really pinpoint her identity yet other than "young 20-something who listens to edgy rock music and is tumblr savvy."

Hits is saying 40K in banked preorders for the album. So, yeah, this one's going to start very well (shame it won't hit #1 due to The Weeknd).
We just need this superb song to score at pop.

She's got a very nice texture to her voice. I'm surprised to hear about her social media presence, mostly because I don't feel like she stands out compared to the others who are doing this style - which I feel like is getting a bit derivative/oversaturated in general? I personally prefer Lorde, Birdy, and Banks, who IMO are at least vaguely in the same realm.

I still don't know if this will work on pop radio. Pop radio use to be very reluctant to jump into the famous on internet singers (generally it's needed a good bunch of weeks with big sales to make radio react). Octahate was poppier and better than this and it didn't work.
If she is that famous i suppose her first week sales will be great, but that won't be enough. Radio didn't jump on Life of the party and that song had great first week sales (of course Shawn Mendes' label has a lot to be blamed on that). We'll see what's going to happen

Two adds pre-impact this week; should get quite a few more next week.

I skipped her at Firefly. I forget why but I think it was because it was a conflict with someone else I really wanted to see and I hadn't heard any of her music. I'm gonna buy the CD tomorrow but one thing to note: Best Buy is selling it for $8.99 but an 11-track standard edition where it looks like random songs were taken off (instead of usually a regular tracklist without the deluxe songs at the end) while Target is selling the same version as the Deluxe on ITUNES but calling the 5 extra songs "Target exclusives."

I like this, definitely a more radio friendly version of Lana Del Rey. I hope this could smash together with Wildest Dreams so Lana herself will take into consideration that her style of music could actually be radio friendly.

Lana is fine doing Lana. It's worked for her thus far so why stop now?
I picked up the Target Exclusive version. Very excited to listen to it. I haven't heard a song of hers in full yet. Plus, there is bonus video content.
