Well, what about Harlem Shake? That one was so unique because it legitimately had a weird viral craze. "Harlem Shake" may have come out of nowhere, but it didn't surprise me as a #1 in and of itself. Those type of novelty dance songs have a history of doing well on the Hot 100. You can go back to "The Twist," but also "Macarena," "Gangam Style," etc. Those can catch on regardless of what is going on musically.

Yeah exactly! That's more than rare to be like 10-3-2-*1*-6.. Why did it tumble so hard after breaking its back climbing to the summit? Well, I don't know what made it tumble five slots in one week, but the reason it never returned was because "I Kissed a Girl" came along. My guess is that IKAG took over #1 on iTunes, taking the #1 exposure bump away from VLV, and VLV didn't have enough airplay to compete with the monsters around it: IKAG, Lollipop, Bleeding Love, Take a Bow, Pocketful of Sunshine Wow look at that competition. All of those songs (maybe minus Natasha) were HUGE. A 1-6 drop is a pretty big fall, however, when you look at the songs ahead of it, it's not that big of a deal.

In order for subscription/streaming services to really start taking off and making money, all illegal sites will have to be shut down, which isn't going to happen, or the services will have to offer everything, if not more, than what the illegal sites offer, which they aren't doing. Netflix is making a lot of money, despite the illegal sites offering even more content (including all the content produced by Netflix itself).

Comparing Fetty Wap and Charlie Puth, it occurred to me that it may not necessarily be how beautiful your voice is, but how special and memorable it is. Somehow imo Charlie Puth's voice is almost a prototypical "good" voice and it needs a really special quality to stand out or it just ruts.. People wonder why tons of excellent songs underperform but trash songs are all ruling it.. It's a matter of memorability.. The most mediocre voice can make some really good song and the best voice can be so dull and boring.. Now I start appreciating Fetty wap and how he can defeat millions of people with better voice and be a phenomenon as a lead artist. His songs just fit him so well and so self-styled and deserve a relatively good rating..

Amazing how interest in the Hot 100 has dipped since the move to Mondays. Is that the reason or is the current chart climate less interesting than the last 10 years?

For me the move to Mondays makes no difference.
I don't know if the interest has waned just here or everywhere. And if it is here, is it due to the Monday thing?
I do know I post a lot fewer charts now (on Tuesday) because no one appears to be reading them

I honestly thought that it would have made the top ten a week or two earlier, but congrats to it
