Predictions for next week?
I think that the top 10 will probably stay the same, but Same Old Love should go to #8. In the Night will be on top 20, Roses and Stressed Out will jump, and lot of songs like Used To Love You, My House, Hide Away should enter the top 50. I really hope that Cheerleader fall out of the chart.

For In The Night, Sales will be in 50-55k region, Airplay will be close to 70 million. So depending on streaming (5-6 million), it will rank 15-20. Given the lukewarm response to the video, I doubt it can reach Top-10.

It seems like Bieber will close the gap an overtake Hello in airplay right before xmas and the xmas boost. Definitely not. 50m audience is still a massive gap to close and it's impossible for him to do it in two weeks. More than likely impossible for him to ever do it, since it has about peaked on CHR. It's unlikely to make up the difference of the massive HAC/AC audience for Hello anywhere. This is destined to be another Uptown Funk/Thinking Out Loud situation. Unless he does put out a video around Xmas that blows up. Then there is a small chance for dethroning Hello, although I'd expect Hello's sales to spike big again during that time so the video would really need to be huge.

At almost any other time "Thinking Out Loud" would have been #1, but "Uptown Funk" was just too big. Similar situation for "Sorry."

Charlie Puth is doing promotion for One Call Away? It's already #24 on iTunes.

Weeknd's now secured 43 straight weeks in the Top 10 and Bieber once again occupies 60% of the Top 5. A great era for both Canadians indeed.

It seems like Bieber will close the gap an overtake Hello in airplay right before xmas and the xmas boost. He needs to do some promo or release a real video to sorry as an xmas gift to his fans. 2nd #1 seems likely. He's performing Sorry on the 12/15 The Voice finale, but Adele has the NBC special (leading out of The Voice) on 12/14. So that won't help him close the gap. Christmas definitely seems to be the move. It's a Friday, so releasing a video that day would give you a full chart week. He's likely to receive a boost from iTunes gift card redemptions, as those tend to skew toward young/mainstream acts. And the radio gap will presumably have at least shrunk by then. At the same time, they're probably going to want to pull the trigger on Love Yourself sooner rather than later. You don't want to wait until Adele releases the When We Were Young video/decides to put her new single on Spotify and risk getting blocked a second time. And so I wonder if releasing a Sorry video on 12/25 would take some bite out of a Love Yourself video in early/mid January. If they are smart they should give it a try with sorry to get #1 then they can put all their efforts into Love yourself in 2016.

Justin is being overwhelmed by singles right now. It looks great right now but if they want the era to have longevity then exhausting the three smashes within a four month period is not the way to go. At this point a real music vide for "Sorry" wouldn't even make sense, they should just wait until January and release a proper (amazing) video for "Love Yourself", but even then it will have already peaked.

"Love Yourself" has been taking off without really any effort... it just became a hit through positive reception. It makes sense for the label to strike while the iron is hot instead of delaying pushing it for another month or two. There's plenty of other single options on the album so I think the era will be fine.
This might be a sign of what's to come, though, thanks to the rise of streaming - album tracks from hyped up albums taking off on their own. The definition of a single continues to become more and more ambiguous as the years go by.

So the first American artist is only at no 9, is this kind of record? I'm wondering what the record is too. I looked into that a few weeks back, and I did find a week in the summer of 1985 where the top 8 are were also all by non-Americans.

"Love Yourself" still isn't a single, though. It's doing this all on its own, a la "Dark Horse." Also, the time frame between "Sorry" and "What Do You Mean?" is fairly average. "Mean" is just having killer longevity. And there's no way "Love Yourself" peaks in January.

For a hyped release where the lead single is a hit on day one, it is. I'd argue that there isn't all that much about the Purpose era thus far that seems to be, well, "typical". What, should "What Do You Mean?" have pulled a "Born This Way" or something?

Bieber is killing it this era, really good songs as well despite his personality and image at that. He successfully transitioned from the One Time teen kid to this a mature act. Still not a fan of the guy but can't deny how good the songs are Looks like Ellie Goulding will miss the top 10 I hope All I Want For Christmas is You hits top 20 Go Adele, get more weeks at #1

Does Justin now have the most weeks having 3+ songs in the top 5? This is pretty nuts. All the chart news would be about him if it wasn't for Adele.
