When do you all feel the 'sound of the 2010s' started?
The 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s all had their own sound / identity;
The early 2000s had a feel (generally Rhythmic Hip-Hop)
To me, it is almost as if what we have now started with 2006's Sexyback, transitioned through the Gaga Katy years and Taylor;
Awesome stars and music, but no defining image: Certainly no disco balls or flannel shirts!

Once, I Took A Pill In Ibiza and it got me so f**ked up that I ended up eating 1000 lbs of Cake By The Ocean. Then, my mom came and stopped me, saying " NO! That's enough cake for you!", to which I responded "Come on, Mom! I'm not 7 Years old anymore! The only person who should be making my decisions for me is Me, Myself & I!". Later that evening, I returned to My House and decided to call my girlfriend and tell her I needed to have some Pillowtalk with her, but since she had to get up really early for Work the next day, she told me "sorry, babe, I'm really Stressed Out now so you're just gonna have to Love Yourself for tonight..." holy s**t I never knew until now how creative I can be :O Hey, this is your English teacher here. I believe it started in 2009/2010 with the big dancepop phase that took a lot of influences from EDM. Going into 2010, you had massive hits from Lady Gaga and The Black Eyed Peas that really helped shape pop music. Going from 2010 into 2012, dance pop/EDM dominated pop music especially with stars like Katy, Rihanna, Gaga, Britney, Kesha, LMFAO, Pitbull. 2012 saw the rise of more alternative and folk music with huge success from fun., Gotye, Mumford & Sons, The Lumineers. Going into 2013, pop music really embraced the throwback sound with hits from Robin Thicke, Daft Punk, Bruno Mars. 2014 a short surge of trap influences in pop music (Katy, Beyonce, Iggy, Nicki) and then halfway through 2015 the tropical house sound became popular with Cheerleader. Lately, I feel like R&B sounds are coming back into pop music but EDM/dancepop will be the defining sound of the 2010's. |
