I think the Prince impact will be bigger than Bowie... I'm curious if there are any of his songs that might actually get new peaks? Also, has Adele given up on 25? I'm baffled at the disinterest in promoting any new songs. I'm hoping Water Under the Bridge gets a shot. I agree, Prince's impact will likely bigger. I'm curious to see the album sales as well Well it seems like Adele is already satisfied with Hello's performance and the huge sales and well she's touring

I think the Prince songs will die down like David Bowie pretty quickly. Prince has a deeper hits catalog than David Bowie and is also younger. No one has dominated iTunes like this since Michael Jackson. This could go longer than the usual couple days So if it lasts a week, even two, can Prince re-enter somewhere this week, go to the Top 10 next week, and maybe be #1 the following week?

Radio stations are playing Prince tributes. So this is likely to be a week or two at least. With the rules in place as they are, since none of the Prince catalog hit 52 weeks, the 52/25 rule does not apply. So any song can re-enter that cracks the top 50

Are we seriously talking about any of these going #1? This had happened before like Whitney's case (#2) but we have Streaming now. One if these would have to have at least 20mil streams for a chance at #1 - high sales or not.

Another thing to watch for ---- songs in chart history that have hit the top 10 twice
The Twist - Chubby Checker #1 in 1960, #1 again in 1962 Monster Mash - Bobby "Boris" Picket #1 in 1962, #10 in 1973 Stand By Me - Ben E King #4 in 1961, #9 in 1986 Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen #9 in 1976, #2 in 1992 I Will Always Love You - Whitney Houston #1 in 1992, #3 in 2012
Others that hit in different versions
Breaking Up Is Hard To Do - Neil Sedaka #1 in 1962, #8 in 1975 Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me - Elton John (and George Michael w/ Elton John) #2 in 1974, #1 in 1992 We Are The World (#1 in 1985, #2 in 2010) Candle In The Wind - Elton John (#6 1988 --- live original version, #1 1997 - Princess Diana remake)

Didn't Candle In The Wind go top 10 twice as well?

I'd love to see Darling Nikki and Erotic City chart (finally). I love "Erotic City" and notice it's top 20 at iTunes right now, so maybe it will sell enough to make the lower part of the Hot 100. I don't know if that's better than it not charting at all, though.

I think it might still be held to the standard of needing enough points to reach Top 50 despite not having charted previously. Bowie's "Heroes" put up decent numbers numbers in the wake of his death (22,000 sold + 2.8 million streams) but didn't appear on the chart. "Blackstar" charted with 3.7 million streams and less than 13,000 sold. (I am using the Billboard article about Bowie's top ten most downloaded and streamed songs after his death for these numbers; too much hassle to link from phone.)

Top 16 and still counting for Prince... might hope for Top 20 iTunes? (3 were non-Prince songs; recent hits; from 17-19)

Wait a minute... Is there a delay for recent hits' airplay across the contemporary/hit radio stations due to paying tribute to Prince?

I just can't believe he occupies 60 of the top 100 slots on iTunes right now. SIXTY. I mean, I can believe it - it's Prince. but...
Look like the major impact will be next week.

I'm not saying this is feasible or going to happen for any one Prince song - certainly not in one day, but who knows what the current tracking week will bring. I'm just saying it is entirely possible for a song to be #1 without any streaming and/or airplay points.

I'd say it's a safe bet at this point that anything currently in recurrent danger that's in the bottom rung of the top 50 and maybe the bottom quarter of the top 40 is basically dead in the next 2 chart weeks thanks to you-know-who. That includes:
Die a Happy Man Don't (I know it's #30 at the moment, but it's about to be outpaced by Exchange, and I think that's gonna go) Down in the DM Exchange The Hills

Credit to: www.kworb.net/airadio*** indicates that the song dropped or added a format -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Why are there so many losses? Is it because of Prince? (That's what I think it is) If so, Drake and P!nk are doing very well

Wow, that's a pretty miserable update across the board. Even 7Y didn't get its usual 2-3 million gain. Is some song getting a radio deal? Or is the radio playing Prince and the airplay chart just not showing it?

Nearly 100 Prince entries on the iTunes top 200 singles chart. This has got to be unprecedented.

Top 19---- ITunes top 5 - Non Prince #20 One Dance #21 7 Years #23 Panda #25 No #27 Don't Let me Down Almost the entire top 20. Just... wow. I think the lack of Prince songs on streaming might actually be helping here if it's inflated sales THIS much.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure you're right about that rule. Any non-current (catalog) song needs top 50 placement to enter or re-enter the Hot 100. Anyone have any examples which would go against this rule? I can't think of any.

With the sheer number of tracks on the iTunes top 100, if several songs maintain their sales and would qualify for H100 for first time, I bet Billboard changes the rule again.
