Chris Stapleton Parachute Mercury Nashville Add Date: 5/02/2016 Writers: Chris Stapleton/Jim Beavers
The official follow-up to Top 10 "Nobody To Blame." If it wasn't gonna be "Tennessee Whiskey," "Parachute" made the most sense.

Daddy Doesn't Pray Anymore is a fantastic song. Imagine if that was performed at a high profile event.
I'm glad this is the next single.

Dear radio, You have another chance. Don't screw this up. Fantastic song. Probably my favorite after "Daddy Doesn't Pray Anymore". Stapleton got to the Top 10. That's not bad at all for the type of song he released. That being said, this song should theoretically do better.

I sure hope this does better than "Nobody To Blame".

YES! Great song and easily the best pick for the next single. I probably would've gone with "Tennessee Whiskey" instead.

Look, I get that Top 10 is great, but there was no reason this couldn't have gone higher other than the fact that radio is PO'ed the next big thing in country music wasn't discovered by them. Chris doesn't need radio, but with the way they're slipping radio needs Chris. I honestly don't think it's that. The song didn't research enough for them to keep it in rotation. I would even bet that some folks were tired of the song WHERE it played.

I love the 80's Blues/rock vibe this ones gives off. I could imagine this fitting in well on a Stevie Ray Vaughan or .38 Special album. Vocals are killer and the driving instrumental beat on this is addicting. Single of the year candidate even though I've already played this a 100 times myself.

It researched fine enough, nothing great but no excuse that the hottest selling artist in country music has to struggle to scrap the Top 10, while acts that are basically irrelevant as a whole like Chase Bryant get a Top 3 song. That's straight up wrong.

Not every song can go Top 5 or Top 10, even from a great selling artist.

Not every song can go Top 5 or Top 10, even from a great selling artist. I think you're missing the point. Chris Stapleton is a household name who like everyone's talking about still, and he settles for a measly Top 10 peak while Chase Bryant who had a song that's honestly did a LOT better than it should have gets a Top 3 when no one talks about him basically as he is the definition of an artist radio likes to cram down people's throats (I'm saying that cause he doesn't sell well) Can we also add that country radio is in debt and if the more popular artists are on the radio the more people will listen. As jhomes87 explained if you compare every mainstream artists album sales Chris Stapleton is outselling nearly everyone in total, heck right now on iTunes besides Sturgill Simpson, Chris Stapleton is doing great on their two. Radio needs to support what people want to hear. It's just that simple, otherwise country radio is basically going to go irrelevant soon enough.

I agree that radio needs to do that but they're still stuck in an "old world mentality" that way. Stapleton is beloved but to radio he's still a new artist. So, it's Mercury's job to figure out how to get stapleton to the top. Radio programmers don't just magically play people who sell. Never have, really. They pay attention a little bit. My main point is there is not some conspiracy with radio because he got popular without them. They're just more interested in stuff to keep people to listen to their stations for the commercials. They think (based on promo and research) that Chase Bryant's song was worth more for that than the higher burn rate of "Nobody To Blame."

Chris deserves success (aka number 1) also in radio. The awards, the millions of albums sold with a quality album ... I'm rooting for him.

I wonder how radio will react to this one. The next awards show I see Chris Stapleton performing this one is at the American Country Countdown Awards. Should get a good reaction from the crowd.

So glad to hear this! This is a phenomenal song. Always been one of my favorites on the album if not my favorite. Will be interesting to see how it does. I don't see how you can find this song not infectious!

YES! I was so excited to see a thread started for this song. My personal vote would have been "Parachute" or "When The Stars Come Out". But if I had to pick one I'd go with "Parachute". As much as I love "Tennessee Whiskey", the fact that it's technically a cover is why I wouldn't choose it. I say technically because if you listen to George Jone's and David Allen Coe's versions, the melody, tempo, and groove of the song is completely different. Chris basically just used the same words and wrote a completely different melody.

This is probably the most radio-friendly song and one of the best songs on the album. This would have been my choice as well.

Fantastic choice. I agree, Top 10 isn't bad, but "Nobody To Blame" NEEDED to be much higher. Hopefully "Parachute" can take that spot, this time around.

I'm glad that they're not trying to bring "Nobody To Blame" back from the dead. I think this is a great choice for a single. It actually sounds (somewhat) like something country radio might play. I would have understood the arguments for "Fire Away", "Tennessee Whiskey" or a "Traveller" re-release, but I think that "Parachute" makes the most sense.
