The last time we had such a strong top 3 was Royals/Roar/Wrecking Ball back in 2013 Are you talking about your opinion of the top 3 or the actual strength of the songs in the top 3? If so, what about Hello/Sorry/Hotline Bling on the week that Hello debuted? The actual strength obviously.. Imo only Royals rocks among the three (and Wrecking Ball's artistic video of course no sarcasm)

It would be interesting if they actually published some sort of point total each week, the same way they do for "album-equivalent units" for the BB200. Because then you could more concretely say which songs genuinely were "bigger" in comparison to each other. Can't really do that either.
Unless they were released at the same time.
Comparing across time periods is not an exact science
I disagree. You can look at the BB200 and see that an album at #1 that sold 50k is clearly weaker than an album that sold 500k but got stuck at #2. If you look at time spans many years apart you have to compare the sales climate at the time, but you can still get relative comparisons. If the hot 100 had published point totals you could do the same. Of course, if a song had 25,000 pts at #1 and a month later a song at #1 had 24,000 pts, it's basically a "tie." But if a song had 50,000 pts you could definitely say it had a bigger week than the other 2.

Seasonality, market conditions, # Units of music moved in a week, price of a song, when and where it is bought, etc.
I would argue that West Side Story soundtrack back in the early 60s, which to this day is only certified 3x platinum is a much bigger hit than some albums that sold 2-3 times as much.
Same thing applies when you are looking within a year, conditions are different in November than they are in June for instance

Work is the best chart hit this year (and Rihanna's best single) so I'm glad it spent ages at #1. It might have been lucky to get 9 weeks tbh, but Rihanna gets lucky like that, We Found Love was VERY lucky to get 10 weeks considering Sexy and I Know It was higher than it on iTunes most of the time it was #1 lol.

Well you could ignore it then if you like. :) I would enjoy seeing published points every week.

If only we could've had Needed Me be number 1 over Work Work is good But, Needed Me is the true hit KIB could go places or go nowhere now, it all depends on what she performs this weekend.

Other people aren't allowed to have different musical opinions than you? KIB could go places or go nowhere now, it all depends on what she performs this weekend. How would a performance of "KIB" turn it into a hit, particularly when she has other singles out there getting airplay? A performance would give the song more exposure, helping it to be able to compete against the other two songs receiving heavier airplay. I'd personally love a "Kiss It Better" per for macs over the other two because the other two are doing just fine. KIB is the one struggling. One last push could help it along just enough. Or maybe it won't, but it's not like it would hurt to try. If it doesn't, well like I said, the other two are doing just fine and didn't need a performance anyway.

A performance wouldn't make "Kiss It Better" a hit in my opinion. "Kiss It Better" to me is a song that sounds better after a few listens. I couldn't see a performance of this spark enough interest to make it a hit like. I'm assuming it would need a "moment" like Kelly's "Piece By Piece" or Adele's "Someone Like You" or be instantly catchy like "Blurred Lines" (the voice performance). I can't see this song sparking to much of a reaction that radio would think "we messed up". I could be wrong though.

Personally Work is one of Rihanna's best songs and is among the best releases this year so far. The most underrated songs these years in my opinion: Shake It Off - Taylor Swift Jealous - Nick Jonas Work - Rihanna feat. Drake

I like a lot of Rihanna singles but I can't think of any that are better than Work. Including features then maybe Live Your Life beats it for me, but even then I'm not sure.

I guess it's possible, but to me the odds are better of a performance taking a song doing well to an even higher level than they are of reviving a song that is dead.

^ I think it's probably more about album sales than trying to revive a dead radio single. Performing a solid song that isn't a radio hit drives album sales because many people tend to think "I like the songs on the radio, and this one is good too... so the album is probably good." It's somewhat like Adele performing a slew of songs from her album rather than focusing only on the single(s). Will it increase the single's sales for a few days? Probably. But it'll likely have more of an impact on the album.
It's also about what sounds good live and works best for the demographic. Needed Me probably wouldn't go over as well with this audience, and Work is already over... so KIB is a good choice, imo.

looks like Drake will be able to collect that airplay #1 in time for a week or two before JT takes over. Sad about ITAPII :(

I disagree. You can look at the BB200 and see that an album at #1 that sold 50k is clearly weaker than an album that sold 500k but got stuck at #2. If you look at time spans many years apart you have to compare the sales climate at the time, but you can still get relative comparisons. I get your point. And yet Billboard always compares how much Beyoncé's new album sold in comparison to her previous one. So this comparisons are made. Why not for the Hot 100?

One big difference between comparing album sales to prior album sales and comparing Hot 100 song points is that points are calculated using a formula... and that formula changes relatively often. The weight distribution of what makes up a weekly point total changes, which effectively means any given song would likely have acquired more (or less) points during a time when the formula was different.
This isn't to say it wouldn't be interesting to see the points anyway - and it would surely make year end predictions very easy to predict! :) That's probably one of the reasons why they don't reveal Hot 100 points. They're also increasingly scarce on sharing individual metric data for songs in the top 10. I wish they'd share all the metric data estimates for the entire top 10 each week.

The Billboard 200 formula has changed in the past couple of years, too. And with pure sales falling fast, even comparing those figures seems silly.

Doesn't look like the official videos for CSTF and Panda are doing much for them. Just goes to show that official videos might not always be needed, ESPECIALLY if there has already been other popular videos out for the song.

Predictions: Rank | Song | Sales | Airplay | Streams | Points | 1 | One Dance | 130 | 120 | 32.0 | 53,100 | 2 | Panda | 90 | 70 | 38.0 | 48,700 | 3 | Can't Stop The Feeling | 205 | 105 | 16.0 | 46,600 | 4 | 7 Years | 60 | 130 | 15.5 | 32,600 | 5-7 | I Took A Pill in Ibiza | 60 | 115 | 13.5 | 29,400 | 5-7 | Work From Home | 55 | 100 | 16.0 | 29,400 | 5-7 | Don't Let Me Down | 80 | 85 | 14.0 | 29,100 | 8-10 | PILLOWTALK | 25 | 105 | 10.0 | 21,600 | 8-10 | Needed Me | 35 | 35 | 17.0 | 21,500 | 8-10 | Work | 25 | 55 | 15.5 | 21,200 |
* "One Dance" will most likely return to #1 this week. * CSTF should drop to #3(has a small shot at #2 if the streaming gap with Panda is under 20M, but I'm not very hopeful). * ITAPII, WFH and DLMD are in a close fight for the #5 spot. * Similarly, PILLOWTALK, Work and Needed Me look to be pretty close...

PILLOWTALK is once again surprisingly hanging in the top 10 very well.

"HOLY" is hanging on surprisingly well. I can't remember another country song that has hung in the top 10 of downloads like this without crossover airplay.

Work is the best chart hit this year (and Rihanna's best single) so I'm glad it spent ages at #1. you can't be serious. This has to be a joke, like I'm being Punk'd or something. It would be the best #1 this year if it wasn't for Panda. Best Rihanna song? Now that's a big stretch!

Ravi , some of your Radio numbers are incorrect. Billboard doesn't use the same airplay as kworb does
