Lady GaGa had kept her profile in the public quite well despite the absence of a hit song/album with her TV show and awards show nominations / appearances but having a chart comeback won't be that easy especially with streaming such a big force now than the last time she ruled the charts. I don't think her new single will be a threat to #1 unless it sells huge ala Can't Stop The Feeling but I think the debut week sales will be like Katy Perry's Rise at best

In fact, I think streaming will actually HELP her chances lol.

Wait... Adele didn't have a "comeback" -- that implies she had done well, then done poorly, then done well again. Releasing a successful new album after the last album was also successful is not a "comeback," that's a hot streak. If Gaga hit #1 however that would indeed be a comeback. Applause actually did pretty well but Artpop overall was a big drop in both sales and singles success ( it's easy to forget Born This Way had 4 top ten singles, same as The Fame). In a way it felt like all of Born This Way's singles underperformed, despite reaching top 10 so I can see how one could easily forget.

She's not going to #1 with this song. unless the song was literally Poker Face 2.0, it wasn't happening. Closer is WAY too strong

It's no comeback single. Bummer Gaga, I was hoping to be pleasantly surprised. Oh well.
Who's left then? Are we definitely getting new songs from Katy and Bruno or are people just guessing that they'll release something?
Also one other dark horse... When is Lorde coming back?

Different era now when she was at her peak, the Spotify audience especially skews younger and urban and well if the video is controversial like in the past maybe but I dunno we'll see

But I'd say it's likely a legit single is coming and Bruno has actually said it's coming soon but that's pretty vague. EDIT - Well it was confirmed literally yesterday that the Bruno album is coming later this year so single in Octoberish.

As posted a few posts up, yup, new Bruno by year's end. Katy will more than likely have something out soon too. We received news she was returning with an album this year back in June or July, though that may have been before deals were made for "Rise." Lorde has stated she is nearly finished with her second album. No word yet on a release date, but likely sometime November-March.

Also, all sales from 12am EST onwards count for next week regardless of location in the country. The first hour of the song's release, however, went towards this week since it came out at 11:00pm EST.

Maybe now that it has an hour of sales along with presumably some radio deal it can go for one of the top gains on the Hot 100 in a week. Obviously not the record (97-1 of My Life Would Suck Without You) but maybe in the top 10 of that particular stat.
Also, Cold Water is on sale, I just noticed. I think they're gunning to pull a Cheap Thrills while they have a chance: after all, big debuts while steal Closer's thunder like they did One Dance and the margins could be closed by the 30-40% gain these sales bring. A music video would clinch it.

A music video would clinch it. Is it even possible for Cold Water to even get close to pulling a Cheap Thrills at this point? It only worked for Cheap Thrills because One Dance was already so weak after 10 weeks at #1. They certainly wouldn't be able to pull it off while being outsold 4 to 1 and outstreamed almost 2 to 1. Discounts don't keep sales up for that long, either, looking at stuff like Treat You Better losing about half its sales this week.

well since ravi isn't here anymore, I'll try to give some heads up like he used to (you can look in the predictions thread for details):
- Closer will have a close to 2-to-1 lead over the next-highest song this week... - The race between Cold Water and Heathens for the #2 spot will be quite close, but CW will probably come out on top - due to the songs above it falling hard, Send My Love (To Your New Lover) has a decent shot at reaching a new peak this week (its chart run is impressive considering its lack of streaming) - this week Charlie Puth will probably get his first top ten as a lead artist (thankfully it's with this better song, I still can't stand One Call Away) - there's a good chance One Dance will be out
and as a side note, this isn't for this coming week but Let Me Love You is headed for the top ten and I can see it entering it really soon (especially since it's still gaining while the songs above it, namely DLMD, Ride, TIWYCF, One Dance and Needed Me) have already peaked and are well on their way down

I wonder, could Closer be heading for that 16 week record at #1? Right now it has such a huge lead over everything else, and is only getting stronger. If that video comes out in a reasonable amount of time and goes viral, we could see some 70k+ weeks here. People are saying Lady Gaga could debut at #1, but I have doubts. I know it's too early to tell for sure, but after One Dance managed to stay up there for so long without as many points, I'm thinking Closer's probably got the rest of this year locked up. okay it's 3 weeks now. 16 weeks would be mid January. Let's say Katy, Gaga AND Bruno all release singles this fall/winter. It'd have to outperform all 3 and Bruno has proved to be threat on streaming. I say we start discussing it's chances when all 3 of their singles have dropped. Yeah, that, and the fact that Closer is gaining pretty quickly so it will probably peak sooner. No way it makes it to January still at #1.

The last iTunes update was red. "Closer" is still selling at 71% of "Perfect Illusion." It's not like it's completely taken over like "Born This Way" did. Total worldwide YouTube views are currently at 1,560,936. If it keeps at that rate, we're looking at its first day being around 2.4 million, which actually isn't even inside the top 20. Decent numbers, sure, but definitely not the massive comeback some were touting.

the iTunes tells me it does, but the less than 2M worldwide views in 15 hours tells me it does not. But I guess we could be seeing at least a top 10 debut a la Judas and Dope
