That was really outstanding. The video was fantastic and Shane did a great job picking out the shining vocals of each artist. Part of me wishes it was a little more twangy/clean in the production, especially since it is a song focusing on the past 50 years.
Seeing all those artists together is really great. I have to imagine they will try to throw a performance together for the CMAs. Maybe to end the show?

Why is Randy credited on it if he doesn't sing?

Why is Randy credited on it if he doesn't sing? Haha I literally just realized this, and you posted while I was in the middle of listening to the song again to double check that I couldn't hear him! Does anyone know if Randy has any kind of instrumental contribution to this? I suppose with all his health problems in recent years it is pretty impressive that he even was able to be included in the music video... But still, it seems like a weird inclusion to me.

I'm assuming pretty much everyone you could think of was probably invited to be a part of this. So Randy may have wanted to be included (but probably can't sing... yet, as he had a stroke recently). I'm sure anyone who's missing likely missed because of scheduling; surely the likes of Kenny, Garth, Shania, etc weren't purposefully omitted.

The Randy inclusion was probably for respect. He can't sing anymore.
Sad, not one song out now or in the past 5 years will even come close to these songs. Nashville needs a slap in the face.
This is an awesome compilation.

This is an awesome compilation. MR Yes indeed. And two country albums hold the top two spots. One from a guy who all the iHeart DJs are insulting because he called out Sam Hunt. A guy who they don't play. AKA they don't need radio for success. Get a grip Nashville.

Fantastic video. This is exactly the kind of treatment that this song needed.

I believed Reba made a big impact on this video, love seeing Alan in there also.

Finally got around to seeing this. For some reason I expected an original rather than a mashup of classics, but I kind of prefer that. There were a few artists omitted that I would have liked to seen a part of this (Shania Twain, LeAnn Rimes, Loretta Lynn, Garth Brooks, etc.) and I felt it was just a tad too heavy on the "now" artists (like Brett Eldredge... what?), but it was still strong and very well put together. That being said, I'm very happy to see Kacey Musgraves was a part of this (slight bias, but whatever, haha) and that most of the "now" artists aren't part of the bro-country scene (save Jason, Eric, & Luke). In other words, the inclusion of Little Big Town and Kacey Musgraves over Florida Georgia Line and Sam Hunt was well noted.
I about cried when they were doing "I Will Always Love You" then all stopped as an out-of-focus Dolly Parton appeared. Beautiful.

I keep seeing posts about artists being "chosen" over others. That wasn't the case here, invitations were extended to more artists than were able to participate. In his interview, Shane said the artists had to be available twice (once to record and a second time to shoot the video). He said there were some with scheduling conflicts who couldn't make it... I genuinely think invitations were sent out to just about every living CMA winner, so I don't think any artists were omitted purposefully.

I just love this song. I will say the only artists I thought were rather weak were Rascal Flatts and I thought Lady Antebellum sounded a little flat (wasn't the biggest fan of Keith Urban parts sorry). Re listening to this I notice how strong the vast majority of them were.
I onow it is probably an unpopular opinion but my favorite part was the end (before Dolly Parton though) with Brett Eldredge and Miranda Lambert next to each other in the end vocally.

This is beautiful, but the fact that they have included Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You" kinda ruins it for me. I feel like this song is just too good for a medley (even though I can't say a bad word about how they handled it)

I feel like this song is just too good for a medley (even though I can't say a bad word about how they handled it) Personally, I would rather they include good songs if they're going to make a medley! ;) Lol I know what you are saying though. You think it's a really strong song, and you think incorporating it into a medley kinda tarnishes the perfection of the original. Which definitely is a valid viewpoint that I bet you are not alone in holding! However, I think it is so cool how the song builds and builds until there's Dolly herself, who gets the honor of finishing the entire song. That part is so worth it in my opinion :) And they totally did a great job too by allowing so many of the genre's most important ladies to honor Dolly by singing the song, but I feel like they totally respected the awesomeness of the original by allowing Dolly to get the last word. Like, if the song HAD to be included in a medley, I think they totally did it the right way :)

My favorite parts were Kacey, Carrie and Faith, but mostly Dolly there at the end. That was sweet and made me tear up a little.
I loved seeing Randy Travis. I wish he could've sung a bit, but seeing him was nice.

I think they had to honor a female somehow, and they picked the perfect song and person. IWALY is easily the most famous song of all time, it makes sense to include it in this medley as it is a country song written by a living country icon.

The more I hear this, the more I love it. Absolutely wonderful job by everyone involved.
Still gives me chills at certain parts.

I know that the vast majority of us (myself included) care very little about the mongrel Hot Country Songs chart, but I'd love to see this be #1 on it based off the strong sales, video streaming, and rising airplay. Don't know if that's possible, but I've gotta think it'll be somewhere close to it (and therefore also getting a great position on the Hot 100).

I haven't seen any numbers, but I imagine if Craig Wayne Boyd did it (what a joke) then this song could. Especially since it's getting airplay and streaming.

Craig Wayne Boyd also benefited from January being the slowest chart month ever, so SOMEone had to be #1 that week. I'm pretty sure only about 4 people downloaded his song.

"My Baby's Got A Smile On Her Face" debuted at #1 with 99,000 first week digital track sales. // "Forever Country" has shifted around ~100,000 digital tracks. The #2 spot on Hot Country Songs is guaranteed but "H.O.L.Y."remains floating on an incredible level with a massive lead over Billy, Dierks and Kenny. If "Forever country" can garner 5M in (on-demand) streams then it will be #1 for sure..

Thanks. I see it's now forecasted at 90,000 units (that Billboard article wasn't up when I last checked). Will be interesting to know the real sales figure on Monday or Tuesday.

This is ok for me, I still haven't heard it a lot yet. It certainly brought back those memories of "We Are the World" for me, a child of the 80s.
One thing that was interesting for me was that "Take Me Home, Country Roads" was one of the three songs. It's one of those songs from the 70s that has become more country now than it was then (kind of like a lot of the Eagles stuff). John Denver was always a folk artist, although he did chart some songs on the country charts. TMHCR peaked at 2 and 3 on the Hot 100 and AC charts, repectively, while only making it to 50 on Hot Country Singles. Did somewhat better in Canada, peaking at 17 on the country chart. A lot of old folkies and folk rockers have found temporary or permanent homes in country, but this never really was a "country song", per se.
I remember thinking the same thing when it got sung at thw end of Brad Paisley's "This Is Country Music", although it wasn't surprising knowing that the song has a very special place in the hearts of West Virginians. Anyway, I just think the evolution of this song is interesting.
