RIP Mama Said. People treated them like sh*t for absolutely no reason& they have to pay the price I woulnd't say there was no reason. Both "Mama said" and "7 Years" were pretty much ego trips for lead singer. It was disgusting to hear them sing about their fame and hiding that behind facade of something deeper, like a song about growing up and life. As for "Mama Said":

Chart Watch: 'Forever Country' Is Off to a Fast Start
Paul Grein Writer
September 26, 2016
βForever Country,β which was recorded by a βWe Are the Worldβ-style ensemble of 30 top country stars, is the weekβs top new entry on the Hot 100 at #21. Itβs a medley of three country classics: John Denverβs βTake Me Home, Country Roads,β Willie Nelsonβs βOn the Road Again,β and Dolly Partonβs βI Will Always Love You.β The recording was made to promote the upcoming 50th edition of the CMA Awards on Nov. 2.
Denverβs original version of βTake Me Home, Country Roadsβ reached #2 in 1971. Nelsonβs original version of βOn the Road Againβ hit #20 in 1980. But Partonβs original version of βI Will Always Love Youβ failed to crack the Hot 100 in 1974. (A Parton remake of the song for the movie The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas reached #53 in 1982. And, of course, a cover version of the song by Whitney Houston became one of the most successful singles in history.)
βForever Countryβ enters the Hot Country Songs chart at #1. Itβs just the third single to enter that chart in the top spot, following Garth Brooksβs βMore Than a Memoryβ in September 2007 and Craig Wayne Boydβs βMy Babyβs Got a Smile on Her Faceβ in January 2015. (Boyd was the Season 7 winner on The Voice.)
You may be surprised to learn that βTake Me Home, Country Roadsβ wasnβt a major country hit when it was first released in 1971. It peaked at #50 on Hot Country Singles, as the chart was then known. (βI Will Always Love Youβ and βOn the Road Againβ were both #1 country hits on their first go-round.)
Country radio eventually embraced Denver, who had seven top 10 country hits between 1974 and 1986. The singer-songwriter died in a plane crash in 1997. He would have been 72 now, and no doubt would have found it gratifying that his old song was one of three songs chosen to represent country music on such a meaningful, time-capsule project.
For the record, the artist billing on βForever Countryβ is βArtists of Then, Now & Forever.β Itβs not as catchy as βUSA for Africa,β is it?
Top Songs
The Chainsmokersβ βCloserβ (featuring Halsey) tops the Hot 100 for the sixth straight week. It also heads the U.K.βs Official Singles Chart for the fourth week. And it heads Top Digital Songs for the seventh week (with sales of 162K this week).
The next two songs in line remain in place from last week. twenty one pilotsβ βHeathensβ holds at #2 in its 14th week. Major Lazerβs βCold Waterβ (featuring Justin Bieber and MΓ) holds at #3 its ninth week.
DJ Snakeβs βLet Me Love Youβ (also featuring Bieber) jumps from #6 to #4 in its seventh week. Itβs DJ Snakeβs third top five hit; Bieberβs eighth. This is Bieberβs fifth top five hit so far in 2016, which is more than any other artist.
Siaβs βCheap Thrillsβ (featuring Sean Paul) dips from #4 to #5 in its 32nd week.
Shawn Mendesβs βTreat You Betterβ jumps from #8 to #6 in its 16th week. Itβs from his sophomore album, Illuminate, which is set to enter the Billboard 200 at #1 next week.
The Chainsmokersβ previous hit, βDonβt Let Me Downβ (featuring Daya), drops from #5 to #7 in its 32nd week.
D.R.A.M.βs βBroccoliβ (featuring Lil Yachty) jumps from #12 to #8 in its 15th week. This has to be the healthiest title of a top 10 hit in history. It makes up for Larry Groceβs βJunk Food Junkie,β a top 10 hit in 1976.
Charlie Puthβs βWe Donβt Talk Anymoreβ (featuring Selena Gomez) rebounds from #13 to #9 in its 16th week. This is its highest ranking to date.
Calvin Harrisβs βThis Is What You Came Forβ (featuring Rihanna) drops from #7 to #10 in its 21st week.
Two songs β twenty one pilotsβ βRideβ and Adeleβs βSend My Love (To Your New Lover)β β drop out of the top 10 this week.
Calvin Harrisβs βMy Wayβ is the weekβs second-highest new entry at #24. This is the fourth different song with that title to make the top 30. The most famous is by Frank Sinatra, though that one only reached #27. (A cover by Elvis Presley climbed higher, to #22.) Two songs titled βMy Wayβ have reached the top 10. One by Usher hit #2. Another by Fetty Wap featuring Monty hit #7.
The Weekndβs βGameboyβ (featuring Daft Punk) is the weekβs third-highest new entry at #40. Itβs the title track from the Weekndβs upcoming third studio album, which is due Nov. 25.
Top Albums
Drakeβs Views jumps from #2 to #1 in its 21st week on the Billboard 200. This is its 13th week on top. Views is the 40th album to log 13 or more weeks at #1 since the album chart became a weekly feature in March 1956. Exactly one-quarter of those albums have had one-word titles. Views follows Michael Jacksonβs Thriller, Harry Belafonteβs Calypso, Fleetwood Macβs Rumours, the Policeβs Synchronicity, Carole Kingβs Tapestry, the soundtracks to Titanic, Exodus, and Frozen and the Broadway cast album to Hair.

This is my first time doing this, but I'm gonna be giving my opinions to a few things that happened on the chart (and I plan to do this every week) -Heathens still #2 :( it deserves to peak at #1 -Let Me Love You is in the top 5! -CHEAP THRILLS, DIE HARDER -TYB almost top 5! -Broccoli entered the top 10 and WDTA re-entered the top 10! -Ride left top 10 :( It was the best song in the top 10 (imo) -Gold went up 20-16 and ihu,ilu went up 23-19! Hoping both can hit top 10 (especially the latter) -My Way debuts top 25! This already looks like its set for a top 10 peak! -HFTW is in the top 25! SSLP goes back up! This Girl reaches a new peak (but should fall this week since it's dying on radio) -Starboy got the top 40 debut! -In The Name Of Love is in the top 50! PLEASE be a radio smash! -Scars To Your Beautiful continues moving up! -You & Me fell 7 positions :( -Cancer debuts! (Sorry for all the smileys, lol)

It's a shame that people give them sh*t for what every artist has done at some point

Second, "7 Years" does not deliver that premise, because its lyrics are all over the place and it can't pick up one theme and stick with it, not to mention bragging about fame and having his name shouted in the middle of the song, preceded by lyric "something about that glory always seemed to bore me". Songs where artists brag about fame are nothing new but there is so much pretentiousness in both 7 Years and Mama Said that I just don't buy anything they say.

Pink is only certified 5xP with the RIAA for digital single sales, but has 15 million selling singles! www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/7519068/pnks-just-like-fire-tops-adult-contemporary-chart-passes-1-million-salesPink's 'Just Like Fire' Tops Adult Contemporary Chart & Passes 1 Million Sold9/27/2016 by Gary Trust P!nk earns her third leader on the list, as the song concurrently reaches a sales milestone. P!nk burns a path to No. 1 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary radio airplay chart (dated Oct. 8), as "Just Like Fire" rises 2-1. The song is P!nk's third AC No. 1. She first topped the chart dated April 27, 2013, with "Try" and followed with a nine-week reign (beginning July 6, 2013) for "Just Give Me a Reason," featuring Nate Ruess. "Fire" tops an airplay chart for the first time, after reaching No. 2 on Adult Pop Songs, No. 4 on the all-genre Radio Songs chart and No. 7 on Pop Songs. On the Billboard Hot 100, the song peaked at No. 10 in June, becoming P!nk's 15th top 10 on the tally. "Fire" first crowned the Kid Digital Song Sales chart for three weeks in May. The single, from the movie Alice Through the Looking Glass, concurrently passes 1 million downloads sold to date, according to Nielsen Music. It reaches the milestone thanks to its latest frame of 11,000 sold in the week ending Sept. 22. P!nk now boasts 15 songs that have each sold at least 1 million downloads. Also notably, "Fire," released on Walt Disney/RCA Records, marks the first AC No. 1 on the Disney imprint since 2009, when Miley Cyrus' "The Climb" led for 15 weeks. Meanwhile, P!nk is on fire with another song with "fire" in its title. Country superstar Kenny Chesney's "Setting the World on Fire," on which she's featured, holds at its No. 2 high on Hot Country Songs and bullets at No. 6 on Country Airplay (after reaching No. 5), up by 6 percent to 38 million in radio audience on the latter list. It also debuts on Adult Pop Songs at No. 35, marking Chesney's first visit to the survey; he's charted 84 songs on Country Airplay, dating to his 1993 arrival.

Honestly the craziest part about Closer's domination is the fact that it's dominating this hard with no Music video seven weeks in. A case has been made about how music videos are becoming irrelevant, so no surprise here. One Dance topped the chart without a music video. So did Cheap Thrills. So did Closer. Maybe labels will start focusing more on lyric videos or dance videos, which are considerably cheaper to make and might just end up generating the same result. The dance video for Sorry has surpassed 1.8 billion views already.

Also, unless something bizarre is happening within the next two weeks, 2016 will be the first year since 2005 to have three songs be #1 for 9 or more weeks :O I know this post is kinda late, but if we're talking calendar years, 2015 technically counts, because the chart for Hello's 9th week at #1 (1/9/16) dropped on December 29. But if we're talking chart years, then yes, 2016 will be the first since then.

The Cheap Thrills lyric video (the one in black and white) has actually been far more popular on Youtube than the solo version.
I don't think videos are irrelevant, as they can be very effective and increase a song's profile (Sia's Chandelier and to a lesser degree, The Greatest are good examples). Songs being huge without a video are also nothing new. Dark Horse and Live Your Life were both #1 hits before they had videos.
