Does STS have a chance at #1? Naw. Too far behind in all metrics. Of course, who knows what affect the AMA performance will have. I wouldn't expect it to push it to #1, though.

Well, and with so many of the current top 10 songs (presumably Closer, Starboy, 24K Magic, Side to Side, Don't Wanna Know, possibly Heathens) being performed at the AMAs, I don't see one of them getting a clear advantage over the other in terms of the effect.

Did "Thriller" not get enough points to re-enter the Hot 100 this year? I've been looking for it the last few weeks and haven't seen it on the chart. I thought it sold close to 35,000 copies Halloween week... I believe it re-entered the Recurrent chart at #1.. jtd, yes it did! Unhinged The last 3 years before this one it managed to re-enter for a week. It didn't manage enough points to make the Hot 100's Top 50, which is why it re-entered the recurrent chart. Billboard seems to be applying the 20-week recurrent rule (requires being in the Top 50 the next week to chart in the Hot 100) to older songs, even if they haven't actually charted at least 20 weeks in the Hot 100 (Thriller actually has 17 weeks total). Other recent examples of this are All I Want For Christmas is You, My Boo and songs that get renewed interest when an artist dies such as those by Whitney, Prince and David Bowie.
