Yeah, the notion that Ed Sheeran is an easy #1 debut is lost on me. Who said he's an easy #1 debut? The poster above who implied a very quick dethroning of Migos. Debut or not, I don't think Ed as an obvious #1. Period.

I did not imply he was guarenteed or obvious at all. I'm not even sure if he has a shot, I just meant that I hope he does. Just like how I hope Ariana has a Hot 100 #1 this year and that Love Me Now manages to hit the top 5. Sorry if my post was misunderstood.

I feel like theres a conspiray behind these BBH100 chart anomally these days. Any rap songs that have some momentum really gain a jhaksfhjsafb boost and stay in the top very long. I dont consider these rap song as bad song but REALLY there are other than rap song out here that deserve those places better. Personally I think racist thing campaign is really contrastly showed up here, or American should own their own chart or something like that. IDK i dont really really pay attention on some political issues in america very much and this is just my mind. Sorry. x "They" took our jobs! And our charts!

hoping for this to be the beginning of B&B's peak at #2 on the chart, rather than #1. Go "Black Beatles" and Ed and whoever else has a chance at #1!

Everyone has their own tastes. Music is incredibly subjective. The real issue here is that people expect the Hot 100, or any chart for that matter, to be a complete reflection of their own music tastes. But it's never going to be because you're not the one personally creating the chart.
At least songs like Black Beatles, Juju, Broccoli actually have personality. Which I'll take over nothingness like Don't Wanna Know any day.

But remember, Cheap Thrills is a historic and game-changing song as it came in the form of a white woman past a certain age, automatically giving it importance and making it "progressive". Sometimes I think ~85% of this board has the exact same stock portfolio heavily centered around and dependent on the hair bleaching and vaginal rejuvenation businesses. Oh please, it isn't Pulse, it's every country outside of the US + a large portion of the US. This type of mindless "hip-hop", is designed for I don't think Cheap Thrills is super great either, but it has a MELODY. Something you can sing along to. I just listened to the 2016 H100 YE chart for a Pulse game and I could not distinguish at least 20 hip hop songs from each other. Musically there is nothing. It's the same crappy DJ Mustard demo sounds made in 3 minutes in Frooty Loops while some autotuned idiot says (not raps, just says) the song title 50x in a row in a braindead tone, because that's "cool". I give Black Beatles a pass because they at least tried making a melody and the instrumental had something going. It's just really boring, most boring #1 since When I Was Your Man. There are a lot of good hip hop songs. Stuff like Mockingbird by Eminem. Rap music is supposed to tell a story, what's the point of repeating a random word? If you don't have talent to sing, rap, or write creative lyrics then what's the point of being a Hip Hop artist... Also I don't know who's talking about Alternative? Do people rage in the H100 thread when Alternative songs smash? Shut Up and Dance just won the Pulse Rankdown for 2015 lol. This post might be a bit too aggressive but it boils my blood that these rappers are all probably ignorant and homophobic and are making money for being mindless. So I guess the 50+ countries in Africa just... don't exist? Or is it that African and Carribean countries are filled with "15 year old white straight boys who want to feel hard and ghetto with their money and bitches while dropping out of high school."

Two #1 hits return to the chart and Last Christmas moves up 9
George Michael Returns to Hot 100 With 'Careless Whisper' & 'Faith'
Following his Dec. 25 death, George Michael scales the Billboard Hot 100 (dated Jan. 14) with three of his 1980s classics.
Former No. 1s "Careless Whisper" (billed to Wham! featuring Michael) and "Faith" re-enter the Hot 100 at Nos. 33 and 47, respectively, while 1984's "Last Christmas" lifts 50-41 (in its first run up the chart, having not been released commercially in the U.S. upon its original release).
Read more: George Michael's Top 20 Biggest Billboard Hits
"Whisper," which topped the Hot 100 for three weeks in February-March 1985, returns after selling 53,000 downloads (up 3,423 percent) and drawing 7.7 million U.S. streams (up 576 percent) in the week ending Dec. 29, according to Nielsen Music. The ballad debuts on the Digital Song Sales chart at No. 21 and Streaming Songs at No. 27.
"Faith," which crowned the Hot 100 for four weeks in December 1987-January 1988 (and went on to become the No. 1 song on the 1988 year-end Hot 100) re-enters at No. 47. It debuts on Digital Song Sales at No. 29 (41,000, up 7,701 percent), while having garnered 4.2 million domestic streams (up 2,049 percent).
In between the two songs on the Hot 100, "Christmas" hits a new peak, as it re-enters Streaming Songs at No. 22 (8.2 million, up 64 percent), while having sold 27,000 downloads (up 177 percent).
All charts will update tomorrow, Jan. 4, on Billboard.com.

Nice showing for "Last Christmas," given it had just three days of sales/streaming through Christmas Day (though without his passing, it likely would not be on the chart).
Regarding this season's holiday hits, it's good to see "Last Christmas," as well as "Feliz Navidad," "A Holly Jolly Christmas" and "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" all have a Hot 100 position.

Or is it that African and Carribean countries are filled with "15 year old white straight boys who want to feel hard and ghetto with their money and bitches while dropping out of high school." Yes Also, it seems that, based on Google Trends, there seems to be a lot more interest in Migos, Rae Sremmurd, and Gucci Mane in Mississippi, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, and North Carolina, then there is in Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, and South Dakota. I guess states in the Deep South have the highest percentage of "15 year old white straight boys who want to feel hard and ghetto with their money and bitches while dropping out of high school.", while states surrounding Wyoming have the lowest percentage of them, eh...? (Please tell me you aren't too ignorant in social geography to understand the irony of this contradiction).

www.yahoo.com/music/chart-watch-a-happy-hip-hoppy-new-year-201240814.htmlChart Watch: A Happy, Hip-Hoppy New Yearby Paul Grein, Yahoo Music Two rap smashes hold down the top two spots on the Hot 100. Rae Sremmurd’s “Black Beatles” (featuring Gucci Mane) returns to No. 1 for a seventh week on top. Migos’s “Bad and Boujee” (featuring Lil Uzi Vert) leaps from No. 13 to No. 2 in its seventh week. Both songs owe their popularity to viral activity. “Black Beatles” broke in large part because of viral videos linked to the Mannequin Challenge (though it has since become a significant radio hit as well). “Bad and Boujee” has inspired numerous memes and tweets playing off the song’s “raindrop, drop top” lyric. Rae Sremmurd are just the third hip-hop duo to release a song that logged seven or more weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100. The brother duo follows Outkast, whose “Hey Ya!” reigned for nine weeks in 2003-2004, and Kris Kross, whose “Jump” was on top for eight weeks in 1992. (Rae Sremmurd pull ahead of Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, whose “Thrift Shop,” featuring Wanz, was No. 1 for six weeks in 2013.) Incidentally, just two Beatles singles logged seven or more weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100. “Hey Jude” logged nine weeks on top in 1968. “I Want to Hold Your Hand” spent seven weeks on top in 1964. “Black Beatles” sold 136K digital copies during the week, which puts it back on top of the Top Digital Songs chart (for the sixth week). Migos first charted in 2013 with “Versace.” The trio’s highest-charting single before its current hit was “Fight Night,” which reached No. 69 in 2014. Lil Uzi Vert’s second-highest-charting single is his other current hit, “You Was Right,” which jumps from No. 52 to No. 42 in its 25th week. Top SongsThe Weeknd’s “Starboy” (featuring Daft Punk) drops from No. 1 to No. 3 in its 15th week. The Chainsmokers’ “Closer” (featuring Halsey) dips from No. 3 to No. 4 in its 22nd week. The song has ranked in the top 10 all 22 of those weeks. Next week, look for “Closer” to become only the second song in Hot 100 history to spend its first 23 weeks in the top 10. (The first was Justin Bieber’s “Love Yourself.”) “Closer” logged 12 weeks at No. 1. Bruno Mars’s “24K Magic” dips from its No. 4 peak to No. 5 its 12th week. “24K Magic” is this week’s highest-charting hit that isn’t a collaboration. “Juju on That Beat (TZ Anthem)” by Zay Hilfigerrr & Zayion McCall dips from its No. 5 peak to No. 6 in its 14th week. Ariana Grande’s “Side to Side” (featuring Nicki Minaj) dips from No. 6 to No. 7 in its 18th week. The song peaked at No. 4. DJ Snake’s “Let Me Love You” (featuring Justin Bieber) dips from No. 7 to No. 8 in its 21st week. The song reached No. 4. Drake’s “Fake Love” jumps from No. 10 to No. 9 in its 10th week. This is its highest ranking to date. The song borrows from the O’Jays’ 1972 hit “Back Stabbers.” But pop music was built on such borrowing. “Back Stabbers” borrowed from the Undisputed Truth’s 1971 hit “Smiling Faces Sometimes.” D.R.A.M.’s “Broccoli” (featuring Lil Yachty) rebounds from No. 15 to No. 10 in its 29th week. The song has climbed as high as No. 5. Two songs drop out of the top 10 this week. Maroon 5’s “Don’t Wanna Know” (featuring Kendrick Lamar) drops from its No. 8 peak to No. 11. “Bad Things” by Machine Gun Kelly and Camila Cabello drops from its No. 9 peak to No. 12. Shawn Mendes lands his fourth consecutive top 20 hit as “Mercy” jumps from No. 28 to No. 17 in its 15th week. It follows “Stitches” (No. 4), “I Know What You Did Last Summer” (a duet with Camila Cabello, No. 20),and “Treat You Better” (No. 6). Two other songs break into the top 20 for the first time. Jon Bellion’s “All Time Low” jumps from No. 24 to No. 16 in its 12th week. Niall Horan’s “This Town” leaps from No. 37 to No. 20 in its 14th week. It’s the first top 20 hit for both Bellion and Horan (as a solo artist, that is).

How many 'memes' are even counting toward the Hot 100? Most of the ones I've seen aren't long enough to count.

What the hell is 'Cheap Thrills' getting Airplay Gainer? Year-end countdowns. The biggest hits of the previous year gain strong and then fall back down to where they were afterwards.

What the hell is 'Cheap Thrills' getting Airplay Gainer? Once radio stations returned to their normal programming after Christmas, they started playing the songs in the year-end playlists. Which is the same reason why Can't Stop The Feeling! and Don't Let Me Down rose in Radio Songs as well this week. All of them will probably fall next week, though.

On another note, Hate U Love U debuted at #99 in the Hot 100 as a separate chart entry from I Hate U, I Love U. Also, the Let Me Love You remix involving R. Kelly entered the Bubbling Under Hot 100, so that one will also chart on its own.

Well as positive for this week is closer is 1 week from breaking the top ten debut record. And only 10 away from the all time record.
Also isn't it crazy to think Lil Uzi is gonna have a number one single and possibly the biggest song of the year.

I'm surprised there's people wanting more Black Beatles over Bad and Boujee taking over. Even when I really like songs it gets really boring when they lead for too long, especially if the total toppers for their years are low. 2015's opening half was especially dire; at least unlike Earned It, Thinking Out Loud, and Take Me to Church, Starboy managed to sneak in a week this go-around, and I was likewise happy that All About That Bass and Shake it Off traded leads even as the top 5 itself was caught in a cycle back in fall 2014.

It's just that I don't think it's that fantastically fantastic to be even close to breaking these all-time records. When I think of songs like Uptown Funk and Smooth and Foolish Games and other record-breaking Hot 100 songs I think "oh woahhh, these incredible masterpieces!". When I think of Closer it's like "well yeah this is good, I'll listen but nothing special".

I think the last minute of "Closer" is what really makes it stand out for me (I love the song, but I can understand the hate towards it, especially with how much it's been played everywhere). This is just my personal opinion.
