Still impossible. Even Uptown Funk fell short with 60~ weeks without the rule. Didn't uptown funk fall at 53 due to the rule? It was 56

Also, I wonder if billboard considers that when making decade-ends lists. Because if not, PRA has an unfair advantage over UF

Because if not, PRA has an unfair advantage over UF On the recurrent chart, every song that went recurrent after the Grammy week (UF's 56th week) charted behind Uptown Funk, so that's an indication that it would've still charted in the top 50 had the rule not been implemented. Uptown Funk topped the recurrent chart for... 19 weeks? idk idremember

Isn't the point of the chart to gauge the most popular songs? Why does turnover matter? Why not just introduce a decay onto the top song after it has been number one for too long if they care so much about turnover?

Happy for new number 1 Also noticed DJ Khaled got his first number 1 past 40. That's not very common but he is third act to do this since last year (after Sia and Daft Punk)

Impressive that "Goosebumps" makes the top 40 in its 25th week. The song fell off the Hot 100 FIVE TIMES and kept re-entering, even after going recurrent, so it's impressive to see it sitting at #32 this week!

I was rooting for it to hit top40 for a little while, it would have sooner if not for Kendrick. Now I'm just waiting on Both. That song has had more than one week at #41

It would be nice for the fans but this is not a fan chart, this is an industry chart, first and foremost. The magazine welcomes fan interest but that has always been secondary priority to giving the industry whatever chart it needs.

Still sad to see this future rap CLASSIC at #32 when "XO Tour Lif3" is sitting pretty in the top 10.

Why not just introduce a decay onto the top song after it has been number one for too long I mean, that would be even stupider. But I do hate the recurrent rules.

What industry? Who exactly uses this chart to make business decisions? Who would need to know that a random Kendrick Lamar album cut is getting more listens on Spotify than a Tim McGraw song is getting on Country radio? Seems like the only reason there could be for comparing two songs like that is for curiosity's sake. Can't imagine a person that it could help practically. And whoever this random industry person is, who is comparing Kendrick Lamar album cuts to Country radio hits, why would it hurt them to see Uptown Funk on the charts for 120 weeks in a row?

The weird rules are with the Hot 100, no rules with Spotify charts. If the bottom half of the chart gets clogged with the Uptown Funk - type hits that could other wise chart for years at a time (as opposed to weeks) that leaves less space on the charts for labels and music executives to get exposure for new material that they choose to roll out. Less exposure for new material then means less money. As this is the Hot 100 and not the Hot 500, space is limited to just 100 songs.

Currently you need a subscription to see Bubbling Under. They could make that one free but it is still not the one everyone reads.

What industry? Who exactly uses this chart to make business decisions? Uh... quite a lot of people. It shows the trends of what's popular in music which in turn helps to dictate future singles and projects.

I'm pretty sure "industry" can pay whatever fee it takes to see whatever they would release. Tell me if I'm missing something here, because by what I have gathered, they make songs go recurrent because they only release the top 100. That sounds really stupid.

If both makes the year end list but doesn't hit top40 is hit a hit???? If you buy a song and you like it, is it a hit? Yes..to you. If 10 of your friends buy or stream the same song and like it...it becomes a bigger hit than if it was just you that liked it. If 1000 people in your town stream the song and like it, it becomes an even bigger hit. And so forth. All the way to the song being sold more, played more and streamed more than any other song, then it is a #1 hit. All are "hits" just different levels of "hit" {Spoiler} Cue the next 10 page discussion about a "hit" depending on weekly and year-end chart position

Few people want to see the same songs for years on the Hot 100. Isn't there a recurrent chart to see that info?

If both makes the year end list but doesn't hit top40 is hit a hit???? There is a thread for this redundant discussion: pulsemusic.proboards.com/thread/165658/counts-hitTo sum that thread up: every person percieves what a hit is differently so there is no winner in this argument and there is no point in constantly bringing it up in every thread because it always lasts long and leads nowhere
