I don't think it has any less of a chorus than "Stay" or "Something Just Like This". It doesn't sound like something that's big now, though, it sounds classic. Maybe not Harry Styles-level 1965 throwback, but it does sound like it came out a good 20-25 years ago. And downbeat throwback songs haven't really been something that have been "in" lately - look how "Sign Of The Times" performed. I do hope it picks up, though.

^ You'd call this song downbeat? It sounds pretty upbeat to me.

Anyway, this song has done well -- if anything, its lack of a clear, strong chorus is what probably has hurt it a bit at radio.

I wonder what's next for this album -- does she have a 2nd single smash waiting in the wings?

I think once you hear it is a few times (and even straight away for some people) it is obvious that "but here I am" is the pre chorus and "next to you, in Malibu *beat increases(?)*" is th chorus. The only structure problem I have with it is the second verse is very long and just when you you think it is about to end, it doesn't

Adore You is one of my favorite songs from her and I was rooting for it to be the second single. Although it underperformed I'm glad she chose it, and it remains one of the most romantic ballads by a pop girl in recent memory for me.

As for this song, I really hope that it makes the Top 10 at the very least. It's so refreshing and I love the direction she went with it.

While this is still increasing at a decent pace it's not gaining enough to move up in peak position. Faster gaining songs behind it keep jumping over it and there are plenty of old songs above it that are not decreasing fast enough.

At least it's been able to move up at Hot AC and AC recently.

Where did you get #9 at? It hasn't been that high in weeks. It's #56 for the day on US Spotify (#40 for last week).

Also, the "so what" is that that particular playlist is followed by 16 million people worldwide. Adds and removals on that playlist are a big deal.

On the last day it was in the playlist, it was #41 in the US and #33 globally. The next day when it was removed, it fell to #50 in the US and #39 globally and has been falling since. What this means is that the song has to fight for streams all on its own without the help of the Internet's most influential playlist, and it's falling without it.

So I'm guessing this will continue to hover around the mid teens at Pop for another week or so and then they will pull the plug and release the second single (maybe announce the new album at the same time). Another good song that sold well and people seemed to like that Radio ultimately dropped the ball on for some unknown reason. :|
