I completely disagree - she is in the Demi Lovato, Ariana Grande and Selena Gomez group. Don't forget Selena has been around since 2009, Miley 2007, Demi 2008 and Ariana 2010. Ignoring Skyscraper and Give Your Heart A Break, I would consider 2013 the year they all broke out as themselves rather than Alex Russo, Hannah Montana, Cat Valentine and Sonny Monroe/Mitchie Torres. Heart Attack (a big hit for Demi), The Way (Ariana's first single, top 10 debut), Come & Get It (Selena's first top 10 and her change of sound/image) and We Can't Stop (changed image, big hit and led to Wrecking Ball). 2013 is when they all began to be taken seriously, to me. They were now more than just ex Disney/Nick stars, they had their own careers and identities now. Ariana has had three albums since then, Demi and Selena are about to release their third each, meanwhile this is Miley's fourth lead single (We Can't Stop, Wrecking Ball, Adore You, this). The reason I think this song didn't do as well on pop radio is because, although it is a pop song, it doesn't really sound like one. Even when she performed it, she always seemed to put a country twist on it. It reminds me of Million Reasons. Especially when I found out the huge hit We Can't Stop only got to #9, this doesn't surprise me. It has sold very well compared to its radio run, had a decent start on Spotify nd now everyone thinks "wow, Miley looks great and is normal now". I don't think this shows she is unable to get a hit. Don't forget, this still managed to peak at #10, with its debut week caught between two weeks. It also has over 200 million views on YouTube and #11 on iTunes (granted, discounted). So long as her next big single is more poppy, I think she will be perfectly fine. Not that she already is, this was a good sized hit and a hit globally as well (#3 in Australia, #2 in Scotland, #4 in Canada, #7 in Ireland, #1 in Belgium and top 10/15 in many other countries) well i don't care about any of them really to be writing essays. I'm just a casual observer, and to me, Miley has been around forever. It's almost as if she's being grandfathered into ageism because of how long her career has been already. which is funny because she's only 24.

I remember the last time someone wrote a paragraph of the opposing side of your argument you said the same thing. It was too much for you to read/care about reading. Hint: it was me, and it was in a Katy Perry thread.

Plus Can't Be Tamed and Who Says were both top 20 hits. Speaking of hit, Hit the Lights and Skyscraper got equal airplay when they were hits.

fun fact: she's younger than both selena and demi. and nick jonas too. that she's the one who have had the longest career is kinda mindblowing tbh. i honestly thought she's 27 or 28 already.

I'm not even a huge fan of this song but I don't change the station when it comes on. It's a relaxing track. However it deserves to do better than it has. It sells well and was streamed decently if I remember correctly. Radio dictating this to be an underperforming radio hit is not fair.

Welp... At least it was a top 10 hit on the chart that actually matters.

I think it did fine enough, as long as there's something else radio friendly on the album.

Beyond annoyed that this didn't do better on pop. If a song like "Believer" can go Top 10 with ease then there's no reason why "Malibu" couldn't get there as well.
And to think it's still top 10 at iTunes.

And to think it's still top 10 at iTunes. Well this is country tinged. There are currently 3 or 4 pop rock songs on the top 10, including one that is #2. I'd think that those types of songs are mainstays at CHR and you're bound to find at least one getting significant airplay at any given time. But songs like "Malibu" adds the country element and ultimately kills the chart run. BLABR might peak around the same area!

Hopefully they'll have the second single ready for the VMAs.
The album is due in October right?

This song is so good, I am so sad it didn't go at least top 10 :( :( Too bad it also was released on a Thursday. It may have gotten a higher peak on the Hot 100 (although I am grateful it got to the top 10 at all)
