Yeah, it shouldn't be stalling. I really want pop rock to really make a legit comeback at pop, but both this and SOTT aren't faring well with listeners. Is this only because these artists are pursuing a new sound? Either way, we have 7-9 (depending on definition) pop rock songs in the top 20. Exactly one year ago we had only 4-6, so the sound appears to be coming back to CHR. At the same time, rhythmic pop/pure pop is getting less popular. How is this not responding well with listeners? Were it's callouts awful? It has been selling very well since release and I thought it's streaming numbers were ok to good?? It kind of sounds like it is sitting well with listeners and it's just radio playing what they want... Yeah, I think sometimes too much time is spent on trying to rationalize why songs "aren't connecting with the general public" when they begin to stall when most of the time I bet it's Radio just deciding whatever they want to do. Very annoying. In this case Radio looks foolish since "Malibu" has been top 3 on iTunes for days and as several have pointed out - this is a breezy summer hit in the making. I am surprised Radio isn't pushing this harder considering all the promo Miley has been doing (interviews at a bunch of stations and performing at several summer radio concerts) but I stopped trying to make sense of Radio a long time ago. They have let so many good songs flop.

Haven't heard anyone not like this song, and they'd be dumb to pull the plug this early. It has amazing rebound potential and low burn rate. I found it to be such a non-event release, despite her four year break from Bangerz. Why do you think that is?

She's polarizing, so it's possible this is getting bad call out scores just due to people downvoting because it's her and not because the song is bad. That would make radio's reaction make some sense.

It just doesn't seem to fit in pop IMO.

I guess it struggling is mostly interesting to me because I thought it was doing well in sales and streaming which are usually an indicator of what radio will play (at least to a certain extent). Which, I guess peaking around the 15 mark isn't a disaster, but I certainly didn't expect her to already be close to losing spins or have Selena do better with something like Bad Liar lol.
Though, it is true that Selena has been more of a radio force lately than Miley so that is probably an unfair comparison.

I fucking LOVE this song. Everything about it is fantastic. When I first heard the opening riff on the radio, I thought it was from the 90s lmao. This is awesome, hope it can pick up.

I'm not surprised by this song's radio status at all. It just doesn't sound like what the GP knows as a hit song.

Well, maybe it's the radio listeners. But even I knew the song wasn't going to be big because it doesn't sound like a hit much like Bad Liar by Selena Gomez, which is doing well on iTunes and Spotify too. They just aren't radio friendly songs.

I didn't start following the charts properly until 2014. I am still shocked We Can't Stop only made it to #9 on Billboard's Pop Songs chart (not sure about Mediabase). I hope this can get a bit higher than that and hopefully get another week in the top 10 on th Hot 100

Much like Rihanna's Work, We Can't Stop was a huge hit that was way too polarizing for CHR to get much higher than #9.
This one on the other hand I really don't know why it hasn't cracked top 10 yet.

If it doesn't crack top ten, she could always release F.U. :sip2:

Good to see this having steady gains for the past few days. Hopefully this can make the top 10 and pave the way for whatever comes next.
Could this struggling be her long break between the last proper radio song? And "Adore You" didn't exactly click with radio. I think the only reason it peaked where it did was the momentum coming off of "Wrecking Ball". Otherwise it would've peaked lower with two consecutive ballads and a song that didn't exactly click with radio.
Regarding "We Can't Stop", in addition to how polarizing it was, another factor might be that she was coming off of a flop and hadn't had a top 10 hit on pop radio since "Party in the U.S.A.".

Adore You was the worst possible choice as a single from Bangerz and it ruined what should have been an era full of hits. Nothing like a good tire screech to bring everything to a halt. Adore You = tire screech.

Adore You = tire screech. For real though! Drive, FU, On My Own, #GETITRIGHT, and Someone Else were all hit worthy. Adore You, while being a great album track, was not a good single choice.

I'm pretty sure the reason this is struggling on radio is because it's uncoventional. There isn't really much of a chorus. For radio programmers, that's scary, because they are much more affected by what songs will make people turn the station (hence, "generic" hits). And while sales have certainly been good, they aren't enough to make radio say "Well I guess we have to play it". I think this song's radio fate will be determined by callout.

I don't know if anybody has mentioned this but more remixes are available for this one. In addition to The Him remix that was already out, Gigamesh, Tiësto, and Lost Frequencies each did a remix of this track.
